you left the EDF off your list.....

The things is they don't even need to reallocate land....all they need to do is open the two gates to the massive semi-circular driveway in front of the main old school building and they could park at least 4-5 coaches there, and get them off the road.... EDIT: Sorry...i see this has already been flagged above....

Not sure if its TFL or Southwark that is to blame here...but why is it that there seems to be absolutely no co-ordination of separate roadworks which take place in close proximity to eachother...? For example, at a time when the Village intersection a nightmare, now the top of Burbage road has been closed for a couple of weeks (more temporary lights)...so there is no easy route to get from East Dulwich to the other side of the village (i.e. Turney road/Dulwich Sports-Ground area), as I wouldn't call going down Lordship lane, round the South Circlular and up Croxted as easy either. Also, the residential side roads off Half Moon Lane now have mountains of traffic on them as people attempt to rat run through. So unless the Burbage Road closure is for emergency work which was unexpected (?), then surely one these two projects could have been delayed so they don't run concurrently....and thus throwing a huge wrench in any East to West traffic from ED to Herne Hill...

Deliveroo ?dark kitchen?, on Melborn Grove?
TheCat replied to Houseoflego's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
'Dark' kitchens.....sounds devious.... but in actual fact its collection of 'pop-up' kitchens of non-local, but popular restaurants, and its very clear when you order on deliveroo if you are ordering from a real local restaurant, or a deliveroo 'editions' kitchen....nothing dark, nothing underhanded...soemtimes the food from the 'editions' is good, and sometimes its not.....but there's no subterfuge as far as im aware.... -
On the general point, rather than this specific article, there is zero nuance in debate anymore. As soon as you question anything you are immediately labelled 'against' it. So...question immigration policy...XENOPHOBE....or question the NHS....PRIVATEER...or question the mathematics around the pay gap...MISOGYNIST.... Think this article puts some of these things into perspective...http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/inquirer/first-cut-is-the-deepest-but-reversal-also-traumatic-for-trans-community/news-story/4b46bf9bba4fdbe9f3451d47fc081677 Where people with years of experience in supporting Trans people, are now being labelled as TRANSPHOBIC for raising some concerns....

Only in our modern social media world where everyone's opinion matters would we come up with a phrase like 'sorry not sorry'. (It's a thing apparently) It effuses the self-righteousness of how we pander to the expectation that all our children are 'special' and 'gifted'. It is basically saying, im sorry I've upset you, but im entitled to my opinion, so I don't give a fuck about anyone else. Given most young people are left leaning, imagine taking a right wing 'intolerant' view and then just saying #sorrynotsorry afterwards, as if it excuses the most heinous comments. Not cool right? We have got so caught up in making sure everyone 'has a voice', that we've forgotten that not everyone has intelligent things to say. The Internet is of course a big cause in all this. Everyone no has a platform (including myself!). And we all feel emboldened to be ruder to eachother. The Internet also means that there is no grey area anymore. We are either a 'hater' or a 'bigot' or a 'leftie' or a 'snowflake'....there is no nuance in debate at all. We demand to put people in buckets. For example, what am i if i like both gay marriage and austerity? rant over

Only on the EDF would a harmless thread about not being able to get a pint of milk on a High Street end up with arguments over the local parish boundaries....

I'd second the idea earlier in the thread for brunch at the Picturehouse and then a film. Which is what Mrs Cat planned for my birthday a year or 2 ago, while our child was in nursery. Might not sound that special, but usually when we get a free night, we go to dinner or go away for a night; and get a bit over excited...,leading to very fuzzy heads the next day when the kids are back. So, for me to do something 'normal' like brunch and a film (which we might have done without even thinking about it before kids), was a nice change....and very much appreciated....

If you ever see a deleted post from TheCat, and wonder why.....I'm pretty sure the answer is 'I was drunk'...

Making a related, but different comment to the op, so apols.....but as an Aussie, brits wearing summer gear is hilarious. I've been here over 10 years and have and English mrs cat, so I love your ways. But when it's hot or I'm on holiday, I wear the same clothes I always wear...shorts and thongs(flip flops). But brits have holiday clothes....and seeing a couple from ed in short shorts and a trilby, gets me every time....

While all scare resources adhere to the rules of supply and demand; coat hangers seem to be one of those things that is not limited by scarcity Unfortunatley sue, I've yet to meet anyone in my life who bemoans a shortage of coathangers....:)

We went yesterday for Fathers day, and to take advantage of the 50% food soft opening... The Good: - I don't mind the refurb. Not a huge amount has changed in the pub itself (obviously its the hotel annexe that was the problem/delay). But, you can moan all you like about service and price, the big draw of this pub for people has always been its size, location and and copious outside space. None of this has really changed. - Unlike some of the other critics above on this thread, we actually ordered and tasted the food, as opposed to just eyeing the menu. It was very good. Better than previously. I'm not commenting here on the price (see below), but every meal we had was decent. The Bad: - I'll agree with the comments about young, inexperienced staff, who looked a bit shell-shocked to be there. Hopefully this will improve with time. - Originally, they weren't serving food outside, and as part of the soft opneing were only serving food to pre-booked tables in the dining area and covered rear courtyard. We (along with nearly every other group) asked if we could sit outside on a 30 degree day. Were told 'No' as only serving food to tables in the 'designated area' as part of soft launch. After we'd been sat for 30mins, they obviously got asked the question by every single group that came in, and changed their minds, and started seating people outside in the garden. Change of policy was a bit annoying as we'd already started eating, and werent asked if e'd like to move. I mean its not like it was a surprise that sunday was a hot sunny day, they should have just moved their 'serving area' to outside as basically everyone wanted to get outside. basically a bit naive and disorganised. - it is pricey for what it is. But regardless, its still a pub where I would go to sit outside with a pint, and probably order a meal (accepting the fact that I'll pay a few more quid over what I would pay elsewhere) I suspect it will continue to be busy on the weekends as it always has been; as there will be many like me, who like its situation and will put up with the downsides for that pleasure. Basically for the pub goer, apart from a lick of paint and slightly nicer food, its pretty much the same.

bodsier Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploa > ds/attachment_data/file/607725/Naylor_review.pdf Sorry about that old chap, I guess I was a bit distracted as my highly polluting car, constructed completely of ivory, was playing up that day, and I couldn't get to my weekly fox hunt on time. I guess I just thought to myself, why not just sh-t on the little guy and the NHS to at least salvage something out of a tough day..... Or perhaps some conservative voters actually weighed up their options and made reasoned decisions based on information other than what you read in the Graun....

I think most reasonable people (parents of young children included) would have empathised with the OP's situation, and allowed him to carry on without comment. Perhaps though the reason why this is a touchy subject is that there's no doubt that the children/parents parking spaces are abused at Sainsbury's dkh. There's often people who don't need to use them, parking in them. As has been pointed out above, the issue is mainly the fact that one can open the doors properly to get young kids in and out. Personally, I don't really care how close they are to the supermarket, and would be quite happy to see them moved further away, this would then stop them being abused, and silence anyone suggested parents are favoured above the disabled.....

While it is a broadly good thing that the young voter turnout was high, I must say, watching the news tonight, I'm getting a little irritated with 'young people' telling us all how much more they 'care' about others and a fair society.... Note to 'youth'...most people care a lot. But there's a few other things to consider once you've actually got some skin the in the game...

So does anyone know anything about the DUP?, who may end up deciding the fate of this country....i've read comments that they're a bunch of ultra-conservative religious fanatics...a northern irish version of UKIP if you will....but I personally have no idea, and guess it depends on who you ask...

'The money I have, I worked hard for. > Therefore anyone with less can't be working hard > enough'. It's faulty logic and it's egocentric. I don't disagree with this as a view of some on the right. But equally, you get the people with less money who have the mindset of 'I work hard, not like those toffs in their ivory towers, who breeze through life'. I would say both of those views are extreme, and largely incorrect..

Similar to the big lie from labour that only the top 5percent will be affected by their tax grab? Umm.....Corporation tax, land value tax, tax on pvt health insurance premiums, vat on pvt school fees..... Also, when they don't make enough to fund their promises. Will the top 5 % become the top 25%?
