Yes, Cllr Barber deffo keeping his end up ruffers. It's not a direct line to god but... :)) Mark, do we know which forums involved in this along with EDF? (From what I'm hearing frm peeps in Norwood and the Palace, isn't not gonna be Virtual Borewood. They've got another admin lockdown with threads shut down all over. Sad shadow of its former self they say, hardly anyone posting now and the admin telling peeps to geddout if they don't like it. Run by some bloke in Americaa now.) Anyways, I filled in the survey, like the man said...

People who can think of nothing better to do of an afternoon than play a round of golf; and who the rest of the time prattle about their handicap or regale you with tedious accounts of the last Jack Nicklaus course they holidayed at. And who think that golf is somehow 'good for the environment' and about 'appreciating nature'.

Good one! Let's just call it all 'Sugar sh*t', eh Jeremy? B)

I hesitate to veer this thread back towards topic, but just to say that I'd be up for sharing somebody's dog/doing some regular dog walking. The only provisos are that it should be small-middling sized - not a dog that needs a daily marathon, as I'm no spring chicken any more - and reasonably natured, and that it would only be practical if we don't live at opposite ends of ED (I'm at southern end). LE's dog is probably not for me, but if anyone else is in search of the same, do let me know.

Quids, some of us carry on dancing to house music even to this day. Not handbag house, obviously.

WOD, many year ago I took a year out, saved from a holiday job for several months, travelled to the Middle East, lost my passport/ticket/all paperwork, got incredibly ill with dystentery, ended up in a war zone... Yes, I sent a telegram (remember them?) to my mum who happened to be working in Gstaad at the time, and she wired me thirty quid eventually, and some archaelogists found all my papers a few weeks later, and I was whisked away to the Dead Sea by some people I met, and the police took me out for dinner too, and I got to know the local British consul, plus I slept on a few beaches. All rather splendid at the age of 18. Apart from the being really ill and thinking I was going to die bit. And the war bit when there were lots of tanks around firing missiles and the ground was shaking a lot. And it cost my mum the grand total of thirty quid and she ended up with me buying her a carpet, so she wasn't exactly out of pocket.

Thanks buggie, MrBen and emc. Excellent advice. Mick Mac: I really think Stockwell would be the last place on a list of places to visit in search of a mate! Though it would probably be the first on my list of places to fence stolen goods ;-)

RE: Robbed (between the supermarket and Dog Kennel Hill)

I avoid the park short-cut at any time. Even the road route is dark, there just seems to be so little lighting there. I've had to run into the road and into the traffic coming out of Sainsbury's DKH on one occasion to try to shake off a couple of guys who seemed to be after me. If you are on foot, going to Sainbury's is fairly unfriendly, all things considered. One reason I hardly go there. -

Thanks for the clarification Huguenot. Yes, my view is that we should all be concerned about CL, regardless of our political affiliations. And also that CL is not the exclusive preserve of any single party.

Simian, civil liberties is not a party political issue. Can I suggest that you, or anyone else concerned about civil liberties issues, support organisations that promote civil liberties and campaign so strongly on all this, such as Liberty (general/human rights), Open Rights Group (digital rights) and so on...? These not-for-profits work hard with few resources. Just one supporter can pay for someone to work for a day on this stuff. 250 supporters can pay for a whole person to work like a dog (including evenings and some weekends) on this stuff for a whole year. The best way of helping is with a standing order/direct debit each month: you hardly notice it if ?5 comes out of your account, and they have a reasonably assured source of income from month to month that does not have strings or provisos.

Well if a religious business makes money by collecting money from people by claiming that if they give their income their souls will be saved and they will not go to hell; and then the same church makes more money by getting give as you earn fat cheque from HMRC; and then makes more money by being registered with Charity Commission, so no taxes paid of any kind. And then it uses said monies to buy up local landscape... then this church is no more than a moneymaking religious venture, and I see no reason why it should benefit from anything, least alone public sympathy. In my eyes, there's very little difference between what this kind of outfit does and the typical Nigerian 419. The ppl who gain are few, and they need iconic buildings to keep the funds flowing in. It's a business model.

Charlotte87, you could try out Virtual Norwood forum as you are in that neck of the woods, but the regime on the boards there is a little... ahem, heavy-handed, shall we say. Though not quite Maoist. So seems at times half dead. Or half alive.
