New cheese shop coming to LL.
clockworkorange replied to teddyboy23's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Explosion in the cheese shop. All that was left was "da Brie...." -
Kirstysimone - Reigate is brilliant - nice place, people, pubs, schools etc. train to London tricky. Redhill much better connections and Moe amenities but not as pretty. Better value in Redhill. Not as *posh * as Reigate.

Deliveroo: please keep your cyclists safe
clockworkorange replied to Robert Poste's Child's topic in The Lounge
A black uniform. Well thought through for predominantly night time delivery job. Whilst I totally agree with your comments and suggestions op, the individual delivery person must surely take personal responsibility for their own safety. If they choose not to, I think that's what's known as natural selection... -
Parties every Saturday night on Oakhurst Grove

Think its on the bend in the road. Or actually houses which front the rye. It is annoying. -

wedding venue in ED or peckham?
clockworkorange replied to amandajb's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Golf course south of Peckham rye. Great views of London. -
Restaurants cafes etc are where the demand is. People typically spend more on f&b than clothes etc now. People like to socialise not shop, though sometimes one and the same. Plus, the future of shopping is online, so shops need less space, and can be picky about where they go. Finally, Peckham still probably the wrong demographic for likes of h&m and definitely next. You'll be pleased to know that decent f&b is likely to increase footfall and dwell time in rye lane and thus, notwithstanding my comments above, will likely attract more shops. The cycle goes on.

what London mix said. also, they have no right to be on your land to undertake the works without permission. get yourself a party wall surveyor and/or legal advice if you're that worried. short term disturbance is not a reason to fall out with your long term neighbours. suggest you get in touch with new neighbours, open a bottle of wine and make them your friends. they'll be more likely to respect your residential amenity if you're all "mates". friends close, enemies closer and all that.

Get rid. Massive waste of space. Could / should do so much more with that land.

If you to ban anything from rye lane, it would be shops leaving their debris all over the place, deliveries in unauthorised places, external storage of goods and for good measure- apart from the hair, these issues cause far more *safety issues* than a few over eager cyclists. Sue - I once knew somebody that nearly got knocked over. ... Sounds extremely serious, I trust the incident was reported?

why people in their 30s don't join social groups
clockworkorange replied to Belopple's topic in The Lounge
I've heard tinder is pretty good for meeting people. Also the car park on Peckham rye. No imagination.... -
Not heard a convincing argument either way. Feels a bit knee jerk. Pretty sure it will achieve little but to wind up/create more fundaMENTALISTS. 2 genuine questions 1 - if Assad is obstructing a relative "peace" why has sas not "dealt" with him. ive read that rebels are too busy fighting him, so can't fight Isis. Get rid of Assad and rebels become allies against isli. 2- what are we (UK/the west) doing to fight the ideology both home and abroad. Read an article in the times about how academics in university are teaching all sorts of nonesense about Islam, prejudice against it in UK etc, sympathising for IS and giving it a basis in academia. No reference for this article sadly, but was pretty shocking to see what top u is are teaching. Key conclusion for that article was - fight ideology with better ideology! Anyway, hopefully some sensible discussion ensues....

First look at proposed new Station Square in Peckham
clockworkorange replied to Rolo Tomasi's topic in The Lounge
Louise, the shops you're suggesting wouldn't take the whole building. Too big. Wrong format. Wrong demographics. But I like your thinking. Should make rye lane one way, increase pavement width, improve lighting, signage, waste collection, evict and/or enforce consistent offenders, increase collections, and impose delivery restriction. Better for all. Fingers crossed the planning app is approved, the cpo goes through, and the development comes forward. -
First look at proposed new Station Square in Peckham
clockworkorange replied to Rolo Tomasi's topic in The Lounge
John k, why do you feel such a need to protect such a disgusting space. Its filthy, dark, dank, generates fear of crime if not crime itself. What's so good that it should be protected over a much larger public benefit? -
First look at proposed new Station Square in Peckham
clockworkorange replied to Rolo Tomasi's topic in The Lounge
Tear the whole lot down, open the square, preserve and improve the station, build the flats that are needed, reprovide some retail and in doing so create proper servicing access, enforce against the tumble weave offenders, enforce against the fruit and veg chuckers. Improve the public realm from the disgrace to urban design it is at present. Whilst you're at it, the multi sorry is a total waste of space, so get with the times, tear that down as well and replace with mixed use scheme with resi, incubator space, arts space - whatever really- just make better use of under utilised previously developed land. Louisa, totally right. Codesign, great in theory, terrible when it come to delivery. -
New opportunity to save the woods!! Deadline Friday 23rd
clockworkorange replied to Michaelcb's topic in The Lounge
Penguin68. Yes. Petitions quite literally not worth the paper they're written on without the checks you suggest. Not read the docs. Somebody summarise please. Some trees being removed because....? -
Difficult one. It is a cracking site for mixed use development. That along with the station would give rye lane the boost it needs. In an overpopulated world city, where there is a shortage of home (social rent, affordable\intermediate and market) and managed afforbale workspace this site is a wasted opportunity. For artist studios, I know numerous schemes that have included studio space successfully. The artists snapped them up, so including this in a scheme is straightforward. As for franks, short term lease for essentially a bar. No protection for that In my view. Those looking for a view and a pint (mostly visitors to the area) can go to bussey. A bar is not a cultural or community facility despite public misconception and outcry, its a business. There are also literally doezens of alternatives within 100m (sorry franks) The plex is a tough call. I doubt it can be retained in a new build (thinking structural issues) and reprovision, well, unless under public subsidy, ?7 tickets wont last. Simply unviable, they cost a fortune to build. Again though, it is just a cinema, albeit a cheap one so why the outcry really. As local id be sad to see these things go, and id push for artists and cinema to be reproooovided for. As somebody that works in property, a scheme here is a great opportunity. Its progress. There is so much wasted space in that building its hard to justify given mounting pressures for other uses. The wider regeneration benefit to rye lane would be worth it. I will come to the stand on the rye and look forward to discussing more.
