  2. There's no techiness involved in Firefox. Just are very friendly. easy and useful interface. Especially the ICBM and Wikipedia search box. Plus the in-browser spellchecker. Just like Word!
  3. I have gone after deer in NY state many many moons ago. Whilst I very much enjoyed the tracking and the stalking I had to close my eyes when it came to the kill, I doubt I'll hunt deer again. In Britain I've shot fowl ad hoc with mixed results but that was much more fun. Finally I've also went after foxes on horseback. That was barrels of fun although I dare say that the horse knew more about what was going on than I did. May try foxes and fowl again, deer are just far too cute (but tasty).
  4. In short no. Try Firefox, you will never go back to IE. http://www.getfirefox.com
  5. This is a very sad event and a piercing indictment modern social tendencies in London. I think we are all right to be in shock if the unfortunate individual is an innocent / random victim, but as most of us suspect the victim in all probability was to a lesser or greater extent connected to the London underworld. That is not to say that sympathy for the victim and any possible innocent family members is not the correct emotion, but surprise that this has happened certainly is. Short of resident vetting, check points and some form of barrier there is no way of preventing this sort of thing in ED or anywhere else.
  6. ?1.20 - Mal's Magic at Mr. Snooker's in Treforest circa 1999/2000.
  7. Reminds me of the time a few weeks ago when I was wandering about up Town and sptted and parking warden ticketing up a car with diplomatic plates. I genuinely thought I would do him a favour by pointing this out, but he told me to 'shove off and mind my own business' (verbatim but moderated in the interests of decency). I can't imagine their training is terribly thorough.
  8. Why isn't any one suggesting http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/? This should be the first port of call. You can also download an nice little gadget for Vista that displays train times in your sidebar.
  9. Northlondoner, I can't imagine Spartacus was trying to be offensive and I don't believe that he was with his description of 'four black girls'. Whilst granted if Spartacus was a police officer he could have used the much more PC (excuse the pun) 'four IC3 females aged 14 to 18' but very few people on this forum would have known what he meant. Whereas had he posted much more detailed descriptions on public forum he would have been reckless by seeming to tacitly encourage vigilante action. Not that I'm suggesting that there is a ED vigilante group, God forbid. I'm curious by which words are you are offended; 'black' or 'girls'? The former is an accepted 'politically correct' collective descriptor of individuals of African or Afro-Caribbean descent (not exclusively). The latter can in some limited cases been perceived by some to be demeaning but certainly not for individuals in the stated age group, neither 'ladies' nor 'women' would have been suitable in this context.
  10. Dulwichmum a word of caution for your au pair: The possession and use of pepper spray by 'civilians' is extremely controversial and illegal. Possession can result in a firearms charge and if my hazy memory serves me correct I have seen the use of pepper spray amount to an assault with a deadly weapon. Now I know you're being facetious and pulling everyone leg as per usual, but I'd hate to see someone get unduly deported. Commiserations on the loss of the bike lilolil, I'll let you know if I come across it.
  11. The WI is a venerable institution, you shouldn't dismiss it out of hand. However if all else fails try match.com Come to think of it what do single 20 somethings do in ED? In nearly 2 years I've yet to come across anyone single under the age of 30!
  12. I do wonder whether they will have a closing down sale. EVERYTHING MUST GO! 75% OFF EVERYTHING! Wishful thinking. A Fresh 'n' Wild? I've never heard of such a place but it sounds rather sordid.
  13. fractionater Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > "Er... And then begin shelling from the other > side?" > > > Crush them....Resolve the Peckham problem once and > for all! Nothing quite so vulgar dear boy. We should be much more civil and relocate the populace en mass towards the estuary. I believe the Soviets did something similar with mixed results. In short always move the problem elsewhere.
  14. Does the EDT no longer show the entire 6 Nations? I didn't have the energy to go down today so just stayed at home, but if they've taken to prioritising games with the round ball I will be most disappointed.
  15. For all the ill will directed towards the Somerfield on LL I'm surprised we haven't yet seen a concerted boycott campaign against it. I for one refuse to buy a single thing there. But clearly they still have enough customers to stay in business. How many times have you read posts from people complaining about the terrible products or service they may have bought or received and how they will never go into Somerfield. Yet people like my mate still go there despite the mouldy fruit, cereal boxes allegedly chewed by vermin and goodness knows what else. They do this because its easy and convenient and the Sainsbury's is just a bit too far. The solution is simple if you don't like Somerfield simply don't shop there, or as strikes are very much the flavour of the day start a very middle class picket of the store (this may very well be illegal so not ideal).
  16. I must take issue with her comments as a whole and in particular the following: ?You shouldn?t just give an equal amount of money to both sites for improvements, you should put the one that will benefit the most first." This surely goes very much against classical socialist thinking and thereby the inherent doctrine of the Labour Party, which if followed faithfully would allow all parts of society unfettered access to resources on an equal basis according to need. What Harriet Harman seems to be suggesting is that resources be allocated to so-called 'deprived' areas regardless of actual need at the expense of other areas that are perceived to be more 'affluent'. It seems unclear from the article whether the resources she is referring to are what may be called maintenance funds or development funds intended to re-develop areas in need of redevelopment. If it is the latter her whole argument is nonsensical political point scoring in perceived Labour strongholds. However if Harriet Harman is referring to the former, then she is effectively advocating mis-implemented communism of the worst kind, where the 'rich' are impoverished for the alleged improvement of the 'poor' which of course never happens. Whilst I would be the first to admit that Peckham, Camberwell, Wolworth and the like are areas of frightful gripping poverty and under-development that are in much need of greater investment, launching such a campaign by implicitly seeking to demonise perceived affluence is politically cheap and irresponsible. In the exceptionally unlikely event that Harriet Harman's suggestions are implemented in such a manner the overall result will not be the redevelopment of underdeveloped areas but the collective impoverishment of the Borough as a whole. What we can see in these comments is not a concrete workable proposal but simply a play on inter-area jealousies for cheap political points.
  17. I've regularly caught late night trains back to ED without any problem whatsoever. The only 'issue' with an undesirable was Pwhen I caught the non-stopper early one evening. When the train crawled through Peckham Queen Street without intending to stop there a chap who for all the world looked like a cartoon parody of a rapper pulled the emergency release on the door and nonchalantly walked off. I briefly admired his gall, before becoming frustrated by the train being delayed for 20 minutes whilst the BTP were called. My one concern is that the trains don't run nearly late enough after a night on the town and the buses from London Bridge stop at 00:00 exactly. So if you happen to miss the last train at 23:46 and don't have the gumption to make it to the bus stop some distance away the taxi is the only option. If you're wondering the cheapest (to Whateley Road) I've been charged on the meter is ?14.50 and the most ?23.00.
  18. I was reliably informed by former housemates that there is a veritable absence of pot merchants in SE22. Apparently SE21 is the place to go, I'm a bit hazy on the specifics. I believe its all to do with the DVS (Dulwich Vigilante Squad).
  19. My humble contribution, a little ditty I penned on a wet day in Oxford: Untitled I love to wonder in the rain Splashing in the puddles; 'Cos when I get home from the rain I get a bunch of cuddles.
  20. I think what we can take from all of this is the buses are horrid and should be banned from the streets of ED without any further ado. We should start pressing for an ED tram or monorail connecting directly with the City and Westmister (and possibly Werst End). This would also conveniently bypass allthe stuff in-between.
  21. Delightful. Not a sign of the times I hope. This wouldn't be the place on East Dulwich Road by any chance?
  22. The 'Gas Board' has not existed since the market was deregulated in the 90s. The gas infrastructure is owned by National Grid Gas (formerly Transco), however your first point of contact should be a retail gas supplier such as British Gas or of of the many former local electricity companies such as Eon or Southern Electric. They will be able to provide you with up to date information on how tpo proceed with a connection. There will be a cost involved in creating a new gas connection, if its merely reestablishing a connection this cost will be much lower. When I was 17 i used to work for British Gas.
  23. Mikey Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I live just opposite the Crown and Greyhound and > my Virgin mobile reception in the house is usually > very poor. I have to move round the house to find > a spot from which I can send or receive texts ! Mikey - Virgin Mobile 'piggy-back' their calls onto the T-Mobile network. You will find that they don't actually have any infrastructure of their own in place as they are effectively a service re-seller. Generally - From these posts do I take it that the majority of Dulwichites don't have land lines?
