The worst night out on LL (Liquorish)

I remember corned beef fritters, unfortuantly. Until I found the eyelash of the cow in one of them, hence the veggie status for the past 19 years. -

Louisa I once went out with a guy from Hartlepool. I went to the oldest social clubs in the United Kingdom. They had a meat raffle on at the time I walked in; with my two fluro heads and five legs (might as well have done) so I know where you're coming from. Thing is I don't live in Bolton thank the f*ck, but I do live in the South Eastern part of the country where we are ALL classed as whacky, arty and farty by people from the North, whether you like it or not. When in Rome, Louisa, when in Rome. -

easy Jahlush. Pret is one of the catereers that I have to deal with on a daily basis, and I dislike them.Boring and laiden with mayo and more mayo. I'm still swaying from the idea of eating Boots food. But then again I do like arty, farty, whacky, posh or was it poncy food. I can't remember. -

Louisa, If you eat food from Boots the Chemist, then I need say no more. It's been a pleasure bantering with you. Regards Madworld74 -
Peckham Rye Station (being revamped?)

That's an amazing picture Louisa. What a shame it's being hidden. What I hate most about the place is the clumps of hair floating down the street. They get chucked out form the hair salons that seem to be open 24/7 in the area. I really do hope that the old place is somehow restored. I wouldn't like to be the architects/developers! What a mamouth task. And you know you're going to p*ss someone off whatever you decide. -

just as long as he doesn't offer me a free meal to say 'sorry, I do love veggies, especially you!'....not likely to happen but hey. -

Bloody hell! they didn't have that on the menu when I was in there! That's why I sort of had to choose the Mezze ( I think they had a veggie burger but I didn't want a meal) -

I didn't think Jacobs Cream crackers were used in eateries anymore? Apart from maybe Harvesters and Beefeaters? -

Louisa wrote:(bare in mind she picked a meat dish in the first place) and for one of a few reasons came up with that! What do you expect? Blood out of a stone? It's British customer service for you. Full stop.. Trying to imagine that they have a whole host of fresh vegetables and whacky arty farty dishes off the top of some standard chef whos on no more than 12k a year is living in fantasy land. Sorry Louisa, were YOU the waitress I had the altercation with that other day in Liqourish?!!! Why do you seem to be getting so worked up? How do you think in your mind that mezze is a 'whacky arty farty dish'? and lastly....we all have forum names we refer to each other as. Mine is Madworld74, not 'she'. -

I remember 1973 A La Carte cuisine! oh dear...my parents still seek out those places that are still serving it up! I don't believe I like 'fancy food' whatever that is. I just like good quality food. Eating to me is something to enjoy, it's not just to survive. The waitress kept bringing back the plate, despite me saying that I didn't want it anymore. Mr MW74 was eating a burger at the time, so I couldn't make him leave his food and just walk out. (He said afterwards that he would have been happy to just leave, but he's a shy man so just forced it down his throat!) -

just to put the record straight. I am not a demanding vegetarian, so back off guys and gals! I simply enquired if the chef could substitute the Italian meats (if they stock Italian meats then I thought they'd have something else deli-ish) I was brought up to complain if there was good reason and to complain without making a scene. Both of which I did. -

I agree. I really couldn't put my finger on what was wrong with the place either (apart and aside from the lousy food fandango) The stark concrete and lighting was a bit Stasi-ish....maybe that was it? -

We are a far way removed from the tripe and spam days of the 50's. Are you saying that because we're British we should put up with crap food and crap service? How odd! We have some of the best chefs in the world working out of this country at the moment, and to say that the mere consumer on his/her highstreet shouldn't expect to much, just seems bloody daft! -

Louisa, If the head chef said he couldn't so a veggie mezze then I'd say fair enough, but would question why he was called a chef in the first place. When a chef can't make an alteration to a very simple, cold dish, I question what is it he's 'chefing' up in his kitchen? He should not have said he'd do me 'somthing special' if all he meant was coleslaw. It's not rocket science. If other small places in ED can cater for the sudden and off kilter demands of a veggie then Liqourish should be able to aswell. I've worked in many a kitchen in my years. Across the board from the more basic home cooked foods right up to very famous restuarants offering highly priced and highly saught after cuisine. Never have I seen a chef send out food like the stuff I received. If I was a waitress taking that out to a customer I'd be very embarrassed. -

Oh migod Georgia! That's brilliant. I got upset because I'm sick of people thinking "Oh she's a veggie, just give her the left over scraps she won't mind". When actually I'm a real food lover and bloody well do mind. -
No good wine in the Seepy Tee though. I like The Plough. I like Inside 72 as well but fear I'm not trendy enough to hang out in there in the nu rave style. Went to The Gowlett a while back and the aggressive and non plus-ed bar staff in there frightened me off!

Yeah ouch. Coleslaw, chedder and Jacobs cream crackers. Mezze? -
I felt the urge to share my disgust with you all about the time Mr MW74 and I went to Liquorish for some food last week. I know it's been talked about on here before....but it was the first time we'd gone in and it will be the last. We ordered some food, as you do. I asked if the Mezze could be altered to accommodate the fact I'm a veggie. After some um-ing and ah-ing the chef said he'd provide me with a 'surprise' and replace the italian meats with something special. Right. Lovely I think to myself. A platter arrives. Three tiny pots of gunk ( meant to be guacomole, hummous and something else!) the smallest portion of olives, some dried and stale pitta bread and wait for it.....the special dish to replace the expensive italian meats....a pot of coleslaw and some cold, fried, mushrooms. I was mortified. I sent it back. P*ss taking buggers. Literally 2 minutes later!! the SAME PLATE was put down infront of me, all that had been done was the bread had been RE-ARRANGED, and some more coleslaw added on the side. Mr MW74 dived for cover as I saw red. The waitress asked me what I expected her to do, and took the plate away for the second time. Again a few minutes later the same bloody plate came back to me with some jacobs cream crackers, a lump of chedder and one piece of artichoke slammed on the side!!!!!!!! I said I wasn't hungry and that the 'food' should be taken back to the kitchen and re-used for someone else's meal! I was furious. The same plate brough back to me three times with various bits and peices added and taken away. The final insult was when we came to pay the bill. They's charged us for the 'meal' I didn't even eat. When we told the waitress she very reluctantly took it off the bill. What a bloody nightmare. What's wrong with these people? Anyone else get treated like that in Liquorish?

Why dont you get her to join a local athletics club for kids (seriously) I wished my parents had made me join, maybe I would have escaped the Bonkers Fairy. (she comes in the middle of the night and sprinkles nuts on you) -
At work) It's half past four and we're eyeing the door, planning our escape for the weekend...
