Instead of a White Stuff in ED, I'd like to see...

SimonM wrote: I keep seeing variations of this cri de coeur in here - does the music shop on Upland Road not fit the bill then? No it most certainly does not! It's alright if you sing in a choir and want sheet music for Verdi?s Requiem, and definately not alright if you have a musical instrument (that's not a violin, a triangle or a recorder!). Do you know of record stores like Sister Ray in Soho? That's the type of place we could do with. But less gloomy inside... -

You mean you're a person mad world? Damn, i thought i was addressing the whole mad world. (panda boy is a work thing, working too long hours, eyes resemble panda eyes, as they do now. I don't actually sit in trees and eat shoots, that much anymore...) And what are your ideas on the forest hill section? You can view me Panda Boy as the world in it's entirety if you like.....I like the idea of hanging out in trees very much.. Forest Hill? It just has the 'feel' you know, that's it's soon to have the makeover of all makeovers. -

I dont know you might be called something like Tarquin and just be slumming it on this website by using the guise 'Keef'...not that there's anything wrong with the name Keith, Keef. -

You said you wanted a guitar shop Keef, didn't you? As does Panda Boy (I can't help but wonder what your real names are because quite frankly I feel a bit daft writing to Keef and Panda Boy!)...but anyway enough of that. Forest Hill area is set for big things I can imagine. -

The Two Trees Lounge? It's round the corner from me. I saw it being demolished over the weekend. There was this guy up a ladder with an iron bar ripping the frontage off whilst clutching a Bud in the other hand. Talented. If only th Co-op actually sold FOOD!! we'd be okay. It's like an Eastern European market when I go in there (expect Eastern Europe markets probably sell more food than the Co-op!) -

georgia bullock wrote... Actually I would like to see more bars / restaurants opening in LL instead of shops. Yes! loads of bars and restuarants please then maybe LL will become known as 'The Strip' and be one massive bar. Costa Del East Dulwich. We could all get together outside the holy grail of The Strip (outside The Mag) and have a fight after the pubs and bars have all shut....with our trendy fish slices in hand as weapons? -

I have to say no to M&S and no to John Lewis, even though I use both. We have to keep LL independent or at the least with small chain businesses. If you want the high street go to the high street. That's what keeps ED unique. Keep some differentation between the London areas!..else we all blend into one big SHOP. -

I've always wanted a hammer with a flowery design at ?25.00, and then there's the blue 'retro 50's kitchen' fish slice at ?15.00...taken a trip into that new kitchen shop on LL near the EDT? Can't even afford a carrier bag in there! Honestly sometimes I think people in ED are either bored out of their sculls, or have no sense and alot of money to buy such tat.....um...maybe both. Looks like the honest little indep. record store will have to wait. Thanks Huguenot for putting things into perspective. -
Street lights, Landells Road and elsewhere
MadWorld74 replied to Ant's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Got to say that I live in Crebor Street and the lights are okay. The roads like Heber and the bottom part of Goodrich (LL end) are pretty bad. -
I've already been 'started' on by some bloke yelling abuse at me, and why? I walked 'too near' him as I was on my way to the bus stop. The police don't even go there unless they're en route somewhere else. Palm trees? Sort out the shootings first dear MP's.

You can line the pavements with sand and have rum served up free on the way to work, but Peckham for me still remains a miserable and run down place. Sorry for those of you who love it (my next door neighbour has a sign displayed in their front window reading 'I love Peckham', but we both live in ED) Peckham used to be nice, just look up from street level and see the great old architecture. To me it's a place I have to travel through every day to get to and from work. Nothing more. The library and the farmers market bring it some class at least.

Oh Goodness how exciting!!! My other half has wanted to open a music store for ages to make a stand against the digital age and the almost extinct record/vinyl store ......shame property prices in LL are ridiculous......maybe we could open up a record shop from the back of a lorry parked in LL! When you've got the big boys in the market for property like M&S and White Stuff, how does one person with a passion for music ever stand a chance? -
Some places don't care about customer service. The manager could be a great person with loads of ideas, but if the staff don't give a monkeys then the ideas go to waste.

Now now, Northcoat Road in Clapham has a White Stuff and God knows that area has disappeared up it's own bottom hole. Please, please, please do not let ED become an extention of that SW area. We are South East Londoners and do not need a boring white middle class clothing outlet.....as to what could go there, well I don't know...an independant music store? -
I went to The Green over the easter break. We sat down and were ignored for 15 mins by the waiter who SAW us but obviously chose to ignore us ( maybe I had forgotten to get dressed that day or something, to warrant being ingnored??) In the end we got up and left!

Mark don't explain yourself! doh...i saw the link. He was half cut when I went in to buy some material...and had some mates he was meeting in the 'Mag'...explains enough I think....I@ve only ever seen it rough as a badgers bum in there!

Mark...please ellaborate....

Jah Lush, seeing as you've round these parts for a while maybe you can shed some light on something for me. The bloke who owns the fabric shop near The Mag told me that he's be a 'local' in ED for years and that it's one of the roughest places to live in SE London. "No! surely not I hissed, I've just had a glass of wine in Franklins and it all seemed jolly nice to me!!!Whatever do you mean man?"..He just laughed and said "You'll see once you've lived here for a bit".....any idea what ED used to be like before the trendies moved in, and to what he was banging on about?
-
Now that most of the local pubs are no longer for the 'local' people as in the lads and lasses who have lived in SE22 all their lives...where do they all go now? I know there's still a fair few that come into the Herne leaning on the bar in their site clothes talking 'business' in between popping outside to have a B&H, but what other boozers have they all gone to that haven't (yet) been done up in the ED style? The Bishop is a no go area at the weekend. Too full of idiots. Sunday afternoon is okay though.
-
Am liking very much Franklins near Wately Road. Always a nice chilled out atmos in there. Did I just say atmos?....must be the arty bit in me. Also the Rye and The Bishop are favs. The Herne is so boring you may dye whilst in there.

Damn! I never got to drink Martini Rosso!!! where was I!!

Are you not very busy today, Snorky?

Yes let's see how many of us are Arty/Media types. I expect it won't be very many because most actors/artists unless they've made something of their careers would be able to even afford to live in ED!! (I've spoted the TV soap stars hanging out in New Cross Road of a Morning in their Crocs being effortlessly yummy mummy's and daddy's) I expect it would be high in the numbers of City workers judging by the plethora of 'suits' I have seen manically operating their Blackberry's looking distressed on the train in the mornings. So how do we get this vote started?
