  1. According to Hansard 2004 1 pedestrian killed by cyclist on a pavement 2003 4 pedestrians killed by cyclist - none on pavement 2002 4 pedestrians killed by cyclist - none on pavement
  2. How many pedestrians have been killed by cyclist whilst on the pavement?
  3. I agree with mellors that you won't need a breast pump straight away - it takes a while for feeding to settle down and can sometimes be counter -productive to try pumping too early. (In fact I never got on with the darned things and it wasn't until baby no 4 was 6 months old that I really got to grips with it.) I always used a sterliser for bottles when I used them. Lots of people I know use the dishwasher instead but given how dirty my dishes sometimes are after a spin in there I felt happier with a steam steriliser. I only ever used the microwave ones so can't help with advice on what sort. I never used a baby monitor. Mine were always loud enough or close enough for me to hear.
  4. What about the site of Dulwich hospital - has that been considered as a possible site for a new primary school? The Elms at the corner of Peckham Rye park doesn't look big enough but could it used and a smaller part of the park could then be annexed? There is the currently under used section at the back of the cemetary. Brenchly Gardens (may be in Lewisham rather than Southwark) North - Western section of Horinman gardens (again probably Lewisham) There is the large green area off Dunstans road which is presumably the gardens of the large block of flats - is there a portion that the owners would be happy to sell off? Just some ideas - apologies if they have already been thought of and discounted.
  5. I was going to suggest an ear infection. My little one had a bad ear infection that I didn't spot and put down to general teeth grumpiness. It affected his sleeping quite badly but wasn't obvious as his ear wasn't hot or red. The ear pulling made me take him to the doctor in the end.

What about the big house that was for sale recently on Forest Hill Road at the corner of the Park. Could that be converted to a small primary school?
  8. Buds do half day slots.
  9. I too would support this extension. It seems like a sensible, quick and relatively low-cost solution to what is a problem for those of us who live on this side of ED. ED station is 2 bus rides away from me, P bus is too infrequent to be useful for commuting and walking takes 12 mins from half way up the hill over the top then to the station. Not a huge amount but it makes the commute to Canary wharf 1 hour long. It will be a big help for when the ELL comes to Honor Oak and may reduce the problems of traffic around the schools at the top of Forest Hill Road. There was another thread on this topic earlier this year and I seem to remember there was a fair amount of support for the idea there.
  10. We spent a weekend at Amberley Castle in East Sussex which was fantastic - very relaxing, lovely grounds and witin easy reach of Brighton for a fantastic child-free day at the seaside. Word of warning though - its very pricey www.amberleycastle.co.uk/
  11. Hi BellendenBear - I went back to work full time (left house at 8am and got back at 7pm) when my DD was 8m old. I managed to continue with breastfeeding by feeding her in morning before I left for work, expressing during my lunch hour (in the first aid room whilst I had my lunch - very easy and meant I always took a proper lunch break) and feeding DD as soon as I got home in the evening. Despite my reservations about whether it would work it was actually very straightforward and meant that I had the pleasure of feeding her up to 18m which I'm very glad I experienced.
  12. Also the invincibility of mummy and daddy works well at this age. My little one was very worried about the monsters who wanted to nibble her toes in the night so every night I would tell the 'monsters', in a very stern voice, that they were not allowed in DD's room. This seemed to do the trick. Also we have a real problem with fairytales. DD won't listen to any that include a witch, ogre, fox, wicked stepmother, wolf or anyone in the least bit unpleasant. I think that means we are left with the 'Elves and the Shoemaker' and I don't get the chance to practise my silly voices much.
  13. I was told (by a clarks fitter) they have to be walking for a month in order for their feet to flatten and the shoes to fit properly. John Barnetts have always been very good at fitting my kids shoes. I have had a very bad experience with start-rite shoes fitted at the sports shop in West Dulwich.
  14. I think it is possible to do Camberwell to Ducks but only by car not public transport. The drive will not be pleasant but perhaps you can link up with another family to share the school runs. There will certainly be other families going from camberwell (and much further afield). Can Ducks give you an address list for your class to see if there are any families living close to you? If you are looking for an easier life though live closer to school or at least on a direct bus route. Both P13 and P4 will drop you off close to Dulwich college and then its a quick walk up the hill.
  15. I would have thought that further up Forest Hill Road you fall into the catchment area for Fairlawn which is meant to be excellent. Is that not the case?
  16. Japs have now closed for the week as a pupil has been diagnosed with swine flu. Pre-prep and Jags are still open.
  17. On the subject of the staff at Peckham Rye recently my 15y old son was stuck at Preston station and discovered he had lost his ticket to London. The staff at Preston were extremely unhelpful and dismissive even though my son was very upset. The staff at Peckham Rye however, where my husband had to rush to to buy my son another ticket, were fantastic and made sure that every thing was sorted as quickly as possible. Well done and we were very grateful for your help.
  18. One thing that I have complained a number of times to the manager about is out of date food. I have come across eggs, milk and bacon that are weeks out of date and I always bring it to the attention of te staff. What is particularly annoying and happens frequently is that I tell the staff about the out of date stock but its still sitting on the shelves at the end of my shop an hour later!
  19. Could the pedestrian underpass at the Elephant and Castle be adapted to allow cyclists through it?
  20. Clouded leopards have very long tails - they have one at London Zoo but lets hope its still there as they have very nasty bites.
  21. Lots of cars skidding around and most are unable to make it up the hill. Avoid if you can.
  22. Quetzal gets you 120 also

Unless of course you meant a united Ireland within the UK ;-)
  24. Child benefit is about ?42 per week for 3 kids, so ?54 if she also has a baby. Where were the children whilst she was begging? Story doesn't ring true I think.
