  1. The survey is now available here. The link from the main consultations page doesn't work. I'm feeling generous so I will describe the survey as 'rudimentary'...
  2. It's more accurate to say that the 50p charge is for reservations on items stocked by Southwark libraries. The item you want could be supplied by any Southwark branch but that's not strictly an inter-library loan. It's certainly cheaper than City of London libraries which charge ?1 for reservations.

  4. I too would like to see some detailed numbers relating to library usage and spending. James, is there anything you can post here? (Like how much the library service spends on postage for letters notifying you that reservations are ready for collection - they could save a bit there by sending emails instead!) I've never understood why each library can't buy at least some of its own books. If nothing else the latest releases would reach the shelves a lot quicker and they could respond quickly to sudden spikes in demand e.g. when prize shortlists are announced. It's tough for libraries because whatever you do, someone won't like it. I'm a bit of a traditionalist; I just want lots of books and a bit of peace and quiet. Others want CDs and DVDs and cappuccinos. Can one size fit all?

  6. I suggest that all ED cats should be regarded as community property. Cat people, just feed and stroke whichever one happens to be in the vicinity. Therefore no cat will ever be 'lost'.
  7. I don't notice them either, but I live on LL so I'm used to a certain amount of noise.
  8. Ladies' Day at Aintree More Aintree fashion
  9. I phoned the Southwark noise people at about 6-ish to see if any complaints had been made but they couldn't tell me. Didn't actually make a formal complaint as I don't know where the dog lives and it's not like I was trying to sleep or anything. I'm over near the Mag so I pity those of you living nearer. I also pity the poor dog! If you have a good idea of where the dog lives and feel like making a complaint the number is 020 7525 5777.
  10. If you own the barking dog somewhere in the area bordered by LL/Pellatt/Heber/Landcroft Roads, please give it some Bonios or something. Thanks.

James, this crossing is now permanently stuck on 'WAIT' so the traffic is being stopped every 30 seconds or so even when no-one is waiting to cross.
  12. Apart from "Let's get fatter" there was a definite lack of quotability...
  13. Another vote for BT Vision which also has the advantage of being easy to set up yourself - no need for a dish or an engineer.

The lady who runs it is lovely (and the book selection is huge and very cheap if you like that sort of thing).

It is not strictly true that 'most people were vehemently opposed to a waitrose'. The viewpoints seemed closer to 50/50 for/against to me. Having said that, I wish you luck with this plan if it takes off.

Agreed, I much prefer the 'traditional' libraries like Newington or Dulwich.

Southwark library opening hours are great, I must say.
  21. I love libraries. Thus far we're lucky to be in Southwark: Map of UK library closures
  22. Much as I love M&S and Waitrose I don't think we need another supermarket on LL either but it would be great if the Co-op could pull its socks up. Write to them here.
  23. LL at a standstill southbound (up the hill towards the library). Crawling northbound (towards Goose Green). Have just seen a 176 going to TCR if that helps. Got off a 12 which did go all the way to Dulwich Library about half an hour ago but Barry Road was slow-moving and slippy.
