James, I'd be more inclined to use it if the evening opening was extended to 8pm. It's handy for the station so might attract more commuters on their way home.
  2. Thanks. I seem to remember a leak in the same place a few months ago. The resulting ice slick was pretty much the full width of the pavement earlier so if you are walking on the Heber side of LL just by the pedestrian crossing take care.
  3. Two southbound buses stuck on Lordship Lane near the junction with Townley Road...
  4. Traffic crawling v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y along Lordship Lane, going up the hill to the library. Southbound bus users take note...
  5. Snow has definitely worsened in ED in the last 20 minutes or so - much bigger flakes and definitely settling. Set off now if you want to get home at a sensible time!
  6. Just thawing out my feet after a 4-hour journey home. Huge thanks to the kind lady from Heber Road who offered me a lift in her husband's car after we got booted off the bus outside King's. My Christmas angels!
  7. Use talc to remove grease spots from clothes - cover the spot(s) with a thick layer of talc, leave overnight, shake off the talc and wash as usual.

  9. Newington Library on Walworth Road is good too - nice big display of new books, decent selection of older stuff. The 40 and the 176 stop right outside the door.
  10. I wish Alesha would stop saying 'you was'.
  11. Cat-owners of ED take note - if Wibbles goes wandering you are On Your Own. Have a good holiday!
  12. GET THAT GARNISH ON THE PLATE *NOW*
  13. I received a parcel yesterday which was posted on 7th September - so there's still hope!
  14. How about books with a theatre theme if she likes acting? 'Cuckoo in the Nest' and 'A Spoonful of Jam' by Michelle Magorian spring to mind, also 'Theatre Shoes' by Noel Streatfeild.
  15. I've heard good things about 'Goggle', that should help you out.

R&A, I think you have just been unlucky as I frequently see people giving up their seats on the bus. Can't comment on trains/tubes as I rarely use them. At busy times you can't expect them to be left empty 'just in case' whilst all the fit and healthy types are standing squashed like sardines - the idea is that you give up your seat to someone who needs it more than you do. If your disability or condition is not obvious, just ask and have faith that most people are nice and don't mind giving up ther seat for you. You are always welcome to mine :).

Same goes for novels which appear in the review pages of major newspapers - if not paid for, certainly influenced by high levels of mutual back-scratching amongst the literati. It's worth having a sniff around the blogs if you are looking for recommendations from off the beaten track - for example this one by Scott Pack, ex-head buyer at Waterstone's.
  18. I could live without the modern stuff (with a few exceptions). Would recommend some of the early/mid 20th century authors who have gone out of fashion like Nevil Shute, plus you get the fun of hunting them down in secondhand and charity shops. I'm a sucker for old Pan paperbacks!
  19. It's to make news headlines Extra Scary.
  20. Overheard recently in the office - "let's throw some strategy at it" - cringe!
  21. Owen Meany Timmy the dog Tom Ripley
  22. Dorothy Dunnett's 'House of Niccolo' series - really recommend her if you like historical fiction and don't mind having to work at it. Sadly out of print here but you can get lovely US paperbacks from Amazon.com. Start with The Lymond Chronicles, though - here's why: reasons to read Dorothy Dunnett
