Back to work and expressing breast milk
The Nappy Lady replied to Ruth_Baldock's topic in The Family Room Discussion
With no. 1 I returned to work at 9 months full time 5 days a week and she was fine with water from a beaker in the day, and a breast feed first thing then freely from 6pm til bedtime and at weekends. She would never take a bottle. I was pretty 'full' by the end of the day and glad to feed her but never needed to express, would be surprised if you need to given the hours you will be doing. Great too that he is mixed feeding, should make it very easy. Molly x -
my little one went from rear facing to forward facing (older daughters old seat), then back to rear facing new seat abd it was fine. The group 1 rear facing seat is much higher than the newborn seats so she can see out of the car and also we have mirrors so I can see her and she can see me. I know it is a concern about then being happier forward facing but I honestly haven't found it an issue even though she has experienced both, and a couple of friends have reported the same. I think sitting higher must be the key, maybe language development too. Just thought it would be useful / interesting to share. Molly x p.s. Was forward facingfor about 2 months at a year old before I got the new rear facing seat sorted, and spare seat for parents etc is forward facing so still goes in that now and again.

Would look at rear facing.co.uk and stay rear facing until 3 years, same seat willthen turn forward facing and last til six - cost about ?200 (various makes now available). Research on website well worth reading re safety. Molly x

Toddler bed vs single bed
The Nappy Lady replied to Superstarpen's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I think it really just comes down to space and finances. Our daughter went straight into a single bed at 2 because her Godfathers had one to give away, and she took to it fine ('Big Girls Bed'). Cot beds are very cute, but really just another expense IMHO (lovely though)! Molly -
Will be walking dog in Peckham Rye from 11am to midday - text me if you are there. M xx

Jamma, Argos do a plastic 'shell' in 2 halves very cheap - you can fill one half with sand and use the other half as a lid, but it doubles as a paddling pool in the summer - no blowing up and wick to fill with buckets of warm water (Im too soft I know!!). Not very pretty, but a very quick and easy solution, you could bury the bottom half to hide the plastic a bit if need be. Molly x

Sydenham Wells Water Play
The Nappy Lady replied to The Nappy Lady's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks Keef, We ended up doing something else today, but almost made it there, I nearly headed up there first thing, but luckily remembered they don't come on until 11am and then nap time is 12-2pm, so the day sort of out ran me somehow. I love nap time, but if can make stuff very tricky to fit in at times! Molly -
Sydenham Wells Water Play
The Nappy Lady replied to The Nappy Lady's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks, I wondered if it was too early in the year. M -
Anyone know if it is working? Thinking of taking the girls up there tomorrow as forecast seems equally good as today. Isn't it lovely to be in the sun AND warm (spend Friday shivering in the park as didn't put enough on, fooled by sunshine before we left the house.....) Keef, have you wandered past this weekend?? Hey guys, hubby couldn't fly back from Scotland due to volcano (doubt I will ever type that again in my life!!). So on train instead meaning home two hours later than planned. No idea whether I will see you, sad as sounds like a big turnout, but have missed him all week so think may well be pathetic and not show this time. Can someone who plans to be there all night(! Ok not til dawn ykwim!) pm or text me so I can see if you are all still there if I decide to pitch up later? Grrr, why is life never simple? Edited to add can't believe I may miss the secret news.....sob... Molly x

Friday morning.. any plans?
The Nappy Lady replied to The Nappy Lady's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hiya, well I have to walk our dog so will be hanging out in Peckham Rye from about 10am I think if anyone is around with small people who like throwing balls - she is entirely child friendly. Five year old always mad for hide and seek playmates. I usually end up at the playground at some point, and the cafe with poor dog tied up. Need to be home for midday nap which tends to break the day up a bit. Anyway if hunting for me in the morning I have a black mountain buggy with a sheepskin liner in it, a 5 year old, 18 month old and a brown shaggy dog (Irish Water Spaniel) called Coco. Mobile is 07977 130318. Very glad of company! Molly -
Friday morning.. any plans?
The Nappy Lady replied to The Nappy Lady's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi Citizen ED, let's keep watching the weather, hanging out in the park always good for me, though would be heading home around midday so hopefully the youngest naps in her cot and I can get some stuff done. Fuschia, you are a braver woman than me, though if it is a tea group for '2nd time around Mum's' which I believe NCT do then maybe it will not be so bad........hope DS1 suddenly transforms overnight into Little Master Perfect for you! Strange how they have these phases of being VERY NAUGHTY....I turned into Monster Mummy this morning for 5 minutes which I think may have bought me 24 hours of good behaviour (phew)! Molly -
Oh, confused as I had tomorrow pm in the diary too. Oh well, never mind. Can't do Thursdays tho, sorry. Molly

Hi ladies, I really hope to pop along, should be OK to do so, but hubby has been away working since Sunday morning and returns Friday late afternoon....I suspect he will want to crash early, in which case I can leave him 'babysitting' (ha.....sleeping!) and come join you, but if I'm not there it is because I am being the doting wifelet! Biting and breastfeeding..
The Nappy Lady replied to snowboarder's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I genuinely think some of it is that they just don't really understand immediately what their teeth 'do' if that makes sense, and maybe even if giggling, it is just because to them it is a new game. I didn't intend to scare my daughter, but when she bit me it took me so much by surprise I literally yelled OW and started crying before I could help it, and she looked at me with such shock. Whenever she did it again I said no, then ow, you mustn't hurt Mummy (in a calm, but firm voice) and she seemed to get it pretty quickly. I also think the teeth probably 'get in the way' and so they have to adjust the way they b'feed and this must be quite frustrating for them, but I suspect they adjust to it pretty quickly. Finally - if you know where the teeth are that are coming through/bothering them, I would highly recommend Anbesol Liquid over Bonjela every time. You just get a tiny bit on your finger and rub it onto the affected area of the gum. It is a topical cure - so numbs the gum, but does not enter their system at all, so can even give Calpol etc. as well if it is really bad. When my eldest was cutting her molars she used to run to me when she saw the bottle come out. It is far more effective than Bonjela - if in doubt try a bit on your own tongue, or a mouth ulcer etc. Hope things improve soon, nothing worse than having to insert nipple into danger zone whilst frantically hoping they don't decide to bite - eek. Advice needed - forceps recovery!
The Nappy Lady replied to born&brED's topic in The Family Room Discussion
SBryan, I think every woman should have someone like you in their close group of friends, thank you so much for the words of wisdom. :)) Molly -
Hi Nikki73, Arggghhh, sounds like your employer isn't making it too easy for you.....Fridays off are good from the point of view of lots of other Mummy's being around to meet up with etc. as it is a popular day off, and I can see your point about Wednesdays, though that was my first thought as I was reading your post, to break the week up in a 'sensible' way. I wouldn't worry too much about breaking the childcare days up - children are amazingly flexible and actually don't have much grasp on time/days/weeks etc. My little one has been going to a childminder since 10 months old (now 18 months), initially I was working Monday's and Thursday's but this has ramped up to Monday, Tuesday and Thursday now....she doesn't seem to care what she is doing on any given day - just as happy on the days she gets to go there and play with other little ones, as on the days she is hanging out with me at playgroup etc. so I would focus more on what is going to suit YOU best, and of course what the childminder you find and like can do - you may find this actually affects the final decision of which day you take off more than anything else if you find someone you love and she says she can only do - say Monday, Wed, Thurs, Fri (or whatever). Would it be worth talking to your boss again to explain you don't want to take Wednesdays off due to group meetings, but feel concern that the week will be very broken up if you take Tueday or Thurday's off? Friday does seem to be the ideal option in your situation, but if not possible so be it. Also, can you delay settling on which day 100% pending finding the childminder, given comments in previous paragraph that would be the ideal - maybe with agreed option of it being either e.g. Tues or Thurs or whatever. It is odd working a broken week, but I've got better at it, and just make sure I make lots of notes so I can always pick up where I left off quickly when I am back in. Hope this helps...good luck with it all. Molly x

Biting and breastfeeding..
The Nappy Lady replied to snowboarder's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Yes, I would agree. If he bites take him off and say 'no' firmly. Sounds like other teeth moving around and bothering him, and maybe new teeth forcing him to adjust his feeding sty-lee!! Poor boy. Molly -
