  1. Thnaks for the link. I'm not a Nando's fan, it's a step up from the existing chicken places in Peckham though. I can't put my finger on why exactly I don't like Nando's. There's something about the self-serve cutlery situation that really irritates me. Is it the cutlery itself? The fact that you have to go and get your own? A combination? Either way, I just find myself irritated when I go. Bill's for LL? It's just a bistro, with a reputation for treating staff poorly. I used to work in Lewes where it originated, and my colleagues all refused to go there because of "Bill's behaviour", whatever that may be. It's a funny town so maybe take that with a pinch of salt. Even so, I don't know that we need another bistro here, do we?
  2. Desperate scenes today. Only two till open. Self-serve tills taped off. Barely enough room for a young child to navigate a scooter through the aisles, but he?s just about managing it! ?Incident? this mornjng just before opening. Coppers on Site but lots of last minute shopping still happening.
  3. If you?re worried, just use a smaller hammer.
  4. The location doesn?t seem any stranger for tourists than the apparently popular Peckham Lodge (Best Western ?London Peckham?). As a hostel type, it?s similar to the ones in central areas like Kensington. As long as it?s cheaper and well marketed, no reason it can?t work. Now that you can get more sterling for your euro, it?s a good moment to attract European visitors. Hope ED will get a local boost, and welcome an interesting mix of people passing through.
  5. Just wondered if there?s any update. Are your bins still not pulling in the punters? Feel free to address any reply directly to someone who won?t see it, e.g. ?Dear Foreign Lady In Lavender Jumpsuit Taking Pictures of Bins with Samsung Phone?? etc.
  6. OK guys, who's going to own up to making those wind-up suggestions? A couple that stand out: "Explore closing Camberwell Grove at the railway bridge and at the same time closing Grove Park and Chadwick Road at the railway bridge where the two join." Yes, why not build a wall between east and west while we're at it? Or turn it into a drawbridge to keep Grove Park safe from Peckham marauders. "I recommend a SoapBox derby from the closed bridge down to the bottom of the hill! It would be a great event, and would rause money for charity!" Great to see local readers of the Beano having their say!
  7. Measuring the width would be pointless, as it?s a well known fact that your car?s width changes depending how fast it?s going. At least, that?s what most drivers seem to believe in London, as they slow to under 2 mph to make their vehicle narrow enough to pass anyone coming the other way.

Siduhe Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The explanation doesn't make commercial sense to > me at all (why would you install new signs just at > the point you finalise a consultation which could, > in theory, lead to the bridge being reopened?), At first sight seems odd, but then again it?s sensible in the long run. They need to replace the signs, and don?t yet know whether that?s temporary or forever. Using the ?forever? wording means no need to change again (at more cost) later, and if the decision is not curved then you were always going to have to remove the signs anyway so no harm done. Good commercial foresight. Now, let?s get that bridge open :)
  9. Has he done NCS? Open to 15-17 year olds, and probably still some Autumn places for this year. Youth programme credited with building confidence, and meeting other young people from different backgrounds.

Either way, they have done their reputation > a lot of damage in my eyes. A lot of cyclists are singlemindedly obsessed with journey speed. The current arrangement means no waiting at traffic lights, so it may shave a crucial minute off the journey time, often with no annoying stop/start moment on the uphill journey. On the Chadwick Road issue, motorists using the road as a rat run are often speeding far too fast. This is nothing new, it?s just that there are more of them now. It?s both dangerous and noisy: I?m tempted to lobby for a bobby with a speed gun, if they still do that.
  11. I only looked at this thread to see if I?m on it yet. I can only assume my neighbours don?t post here.
  12. Does anyone know if Sainsbury's ED stocks boudoir biscuits, aka sponge fingers? Apparently they're often in the same section as flan bases. Thanks!
  13. Dry eyes? Rest!
  14. I see an opening in the market for laptop dancers in ED
  15. Annoyingly closed for two weeks. Refurb.
  16. Thanks. Didn't know about this shop. Will take a look as it's my housemate's birthday soon, and my usual last minute stand-by of the overpriced niknak shop on Belleden Road has closed down.
  17. In early autumn, there's usually an organised bat walk in Greendale. (In the 'What's On' section here.) IIRC every species of British bat has been recorded round there.
  18. Sorry Seabag, I've abandoned the local bins and won't be back until the Birmingham Bin Man Strike is over. It's paradise up here. Also, the aeroplanes overhead here are much quieter than in ED.
  19. 'Ripe and ready to eat' avocados. In practice, this normally means 'put next to a banana for at least two days; hope ou were't planning to make guacamole today!'
  20. My old cat used to use the bathroom window over the bath as her personal entrance. Even if I was in the shower, spraying the head directly out of the window to stop her coming in. She couldn't care less - soaking or no, she ignored the spray and came and went as she pleased. They can be resilient, bloody minded little so and sos. Don't worry about yours getting a dousing.
  21. I'm new to the two wheel world. Spent a year on a Kymco 125 before got the full licence. I don't recommend them - an old Jap would probably have been much better value. Hence if you see this particular old Jap, it's me on it: http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn185/idiotboy77/F79AAE64-A52F-4F36-9E6D-80B6B6226D2F_zpsduvarvco.jpg (YX600 Radian, touch wood not doing too badly for a 30 year old)
  22. It's a totally pointless light. Turns red for the main lane when a cyclist triggers the bus lane sensor. Often red in the bus lane by the time the bus arrives. Time to decommission.

Last edit was today, 05:27pm by Dulwichforum. I dread to think what the first version of this sentence was. I still can't make much sense of it after you have had three more goes. Anyway, enough of accusing Admin here of being rude. You're the one cheekily seeking free publicity for a directly competing service. You wouldn't hand out Peckhamplex flyers in the Picturehouse lobby, would you? Now go and find some common courtesy, and look up how to use full stops and commas while you're at it. Crack on Admin, the site is still going strong for a reason.
  24. Perspective folks. There are worse poos than cats'. There are worse comments than speculating that the sad case cat man is motivated by cat poo revenge. And what's the obsession on this forum with suggesting the police should be dragged in to trivia? They don't tend to poo on the lawn if you keep it trimmed. For the pots and beds, the most effective deterrent I have found is sticking small sticks and twigs in the barer patches. Also seems to cut down on fox poo.
  25. He was pointing the camera right at you, you say OP? Sounds like he's stolen your soul. Your dog's too perhaps. Dial 666 to ask for it back. You didn't say what was 'strange' about the young photographer. Was it cloven hoofs and the whiff of brimstone that made him stand out?
