  1. Nope. Actually it?s gripping, like a cocker spaniel?s bite ;)

Some people have never heard the maxim ?Better to be silent and thought s fool??, and lo they are right here to give us something to read. The PM?s may be another matter. I don?t know if you can ?block? members from messaging you on this site? I have yet to receive an abusive PM myself; with the benefit of no experience, I suppose the most satisfying course of action would be to ostentatiously ignore them. Don?t take loony rantings to heart.
  3. I?ve been happy with laminate. You can get tile effect as well as the ubiquitous wood effect. There are a lot of non-expert fitters out there - even though not much expertise actually required. I?ve seen a few examples where cutting around doorframes has been lazy and too close to the frame, leading to squeaky doors and lifting floors when the laminate expands. So just make sure you?re happy with the diligence of whoever is fitting it.

Why so certain? Actually both parties share some blame in my view. What I don't like is the view which seems to be the norm, that caveat emptor is the only rule to sell by, and somehow excuses sellers from a moral obligation to set a fair price. I have drawn my own conclusions from reading the seller's other ads, and it does look to me like there's a pattern of overpricing while underplaying issues. Anyone is welcome to so the same and come up with their own view. As for calling out unsavoury social attitudes, no apology needed but it is at odds with you then objecting to someone's right to call a member out on their behaviour. There's something brave and open about the direct approach: what's stopping you from creating a 'Racist Hall of Shame' thread and just putting all the offenders right on it, shaming them directly? It's obviously important to you, and all I'm saying is this was also clearly important to OP and I really respect that.

Not a good precedent. On first read that's a very natural reaction. Especially for Brits, who (as a general stereotype for what that's worth) would rather privately berate themselves for being gulled, than publicly accuse someone of pulling a fast one. But then, the nice guys will always lose. And the sharp players have no consequences to make them think again. I think if someone sets the facts out openly, facts and letting us decide - actually that's ok. And having now read the seller's other ads, my personal opinion is that it's someone trying to cynically persuade people to pay far more for her stuff than it's worth. There are many people who think that's just how life works - personally I find that way of working morally offensive. If you don't mind me saying so RH, I also much prefer the dedicated "I object to So-and-So" thread, to the practice of taking other threads off-topic in order to excoriate members about their opinions and character. No matter how worthy of disdain those opinions might be. You may disagree, but that's how many of your own interventions come across, when some threads just descend into fairly personal arguments. GREECE's approach is refreshingly direct by comparison. Just saying it how I see it.
  6. Found in Bellenden Road on Friday night. PM me a description of it if you think it?s yours and would like to be reunited.

I just saw that brazen motorbike advert and had a good laugh at just how cheeky it is! AFAIK the ?good condition? Suzuki that only has a minor problem of not being usable, is still available for anyone with cash to burn!

I read this and immediately thought how similar it sounded to how people manage to flog totally knackered motorbikes on eBay. Accentuate the positive, gloss over the nasty little secret. A lot of bike owners have been there, myself included, to the extent that you just expect it as standard in that arena. Then what's this other ad I spotted? For a Suzuki: LanaJade Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hi I purchased this a few weeks ago with an aim of > getting it on the road, however I have had no had > the time or cash to take it to a bike shop, it has > been well looked after by previous owner and has > lots of paperwork and still has an MOT. > > 66k on the clock > > The bike is in good condition and shiney. > > The problem is that when you put the key in and > try to start it, it just clicks and wont tuen the > engine on. I have no idea about bikes and would > like to sell to someone that will fix and enjoy it 😂 Yeah sure sounds fine 😂😂 Anyway sorry OP it does sound like you've been had and you have my sympathies. Could have been worse though, after all she's hoping someone will pay ?300 to take away a large Suzuki paperweight!
  9. I've been with the Hurley practice there for about 8 years. It's always been busy but no worse than anywhere else I've been with previously. Anyway I had a letter a few weeks ago saying the NHS has retendered the GP contract there and effectively changed the management. So, maybe your experience hints that the staff have responded badly to the change? Fingers crossed I'll not have to see for myself anytime soon!
  10. Well done OP for riding sensibly, owning a bell (an essential but oddly minority accessory), and avoiding being knocked under a passing 171. Bad luck on the unscheduled run-in with the pavement. Don?t let it put you off two wheels, although stay wary of this daft section of cycle route x
  11. Yup. That's what I'll be doing. What's all this about "hoping" drivers will adjust to main roads over time? As far as I can tell, most rush hour commuters are in thrall to traffic-beating apps like Waze and Google. Just what "main" route is Southwark hoping drivers and nav apps will take?
  12. ?is right now, and it's a particularly nice one round here (just like last night). Glance outside :)

JohnL Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > LKR Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > of course been reported, tracking devise in > house > > on charge... > > hmmmm. Makes you wonder - could they have known > that. They're stealing so many bikes today (something like 40+ every day across London) that the thieves are bound to get lucky like this some of the time. Unfortunately they don't care if there's a tracker - if they don't have the wherewithal to neutralise it quickly, they just park it and see if anyone comes to pick it up. If not, assume no tracker, and if so just steal another one :-( Sympathies to OP. Turns the stomach to think how callously they snip and run.
  14. Where can I get a Dutch hoe round here?

  16. JohnL Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Reports of police knocking them off and chasing > them now. A Sainsbury's lorry also crossed the > road to block another lot (don't think citizens > can run into them but you can block them) Police officers are being incredibly brave when they do this, especially because they are operating under the same ?rules? as you and I. ?A person may use such force as is reasonable in the circumstances in the prevention of crime or in arresting offenders or suspects.? (Criminal Law Act 1967) If someone deliberately knocks a villain off a bike, that someone has to be able to justify why that action was reasonable, e.g. that not taking that step would have placed other people in danger. The guys in uniform put both their careers and their personal liberty on the line when they do it, just like they do with lots of other daily operational events. Hats off to them. Hats off also to the quick thinking Sainbury?s driver. Thanks for relating that part of the story!

  18. There?s no solution to this, is there? People who feel entitled to park where they want to will just go ahead. Sainsbury?s could do without the hassle of confronting them. For the ladies who park in parents? spaces because of disability: sorry, I do not understand why you don?t just park in a disabled bay instead. You clearly feel it?s disability that?s affecting you, so use those spaces. Also, getting a blue badge has nothing to do with cuts - the form is a pain to complete, it always has been. Even the Government recommends you get the Citizens Advice to help you fill it out. But ultimately, you?re either eligible, or you?re not.
  19. JohnL Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I'd report it and tick the "In my perception the > crime was a hate crime" checkbox - police are then > obliged to investigate. To be fair, the police are no more or less obliged to investigate than if you report being punched in the face for any other reason, or for no reason at all. Specifically reporting it as racially motivated gets it added to the relevant crime statistics, is the main effect. The legal implication is that the Courts must treat it as an aggravating factor when sentencing - but that?s about what happens in Court rather than what Plod recorded in the crime report. Anyway, appalled to hear there are thugs randomly punching folks in the neighbourhood. I hope they don?t play on your mind OP, you were so unlucky to be near these morons at the wrong time. Hope you recover fast and enjoy the rest of summer!
  20. Looks like a nice bath. Two people for a day sounds ok, especially if one is just a 'helper' so not on a full plumber rate - maybe that's something you could negotiate?
  21. SENSE shop on Rye Lane, between HSBC and the Aylesham Centre. Classic charity shop IMO: random stuff, cheaply priced, hard working ladies sorting through donations in the back, and a comforting smell you only get in charity shops and church halls. The last thing I bought there was a copy of 'Freakonomics' for commute reading.
  22. Hi, What a pain for him. Sounds like the restaurateur probably hopes you'll give up on it if he keeps fobbing you off. Firstly, this is a payroll issue so there was no need for invoices. I've settled a final month pay error with a previous employer with none of this trouble. Secondly, if you search the web for "template letter before action", you'll get an idea of the kind of formal letter that would seem to be the next step. Best of luck.
  23. rendelharris Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > when you > knew, in reality, you'd broken the rules. There are clear rules about what is and what is not a bus lane. If it?s not properly marked, it?s not a bus lane, accotidjbg to the tiles. So Southwark doubtless know they broke the rules by trying to enforce a bus lane when the roadworks obscured critical markings. And if you know the rules, and you can see the rules mean it?s not a bus lane, no problem with using it.
  24. If the new location is clearly a particular property, I would have thought you could make a complaint and they could get a warrant to enter. If it?s a block of flats where you can?t tell the exact flat though, I guess it might come down to whether they have any intelligence to pinpoint a suspect (and get a warrant). It sounds like you?re being fobbed off. Does your home insurance provided have any suggestions?
  25. Great, will they be back today do you know ?
