  1. Thanks for posting this, I have an increasing number of vegan friends so it?s good to know the places I can take them. I knew there was some controversy about a different vegan burger chain, because of animal testing on one of that other chain?s ingredients. So I thought I?d try to do a little research before suggesting this new ED place to my vegan pals. I have no idea whether or not the same issue affects VB?s ingredients, but what I did find out is that the testing done for the other chain was mandatory for authorities in the USA to approve the food for sale. So I don?t think there?s quite the moral dilemma that I had feared. Here?s a link to a report of the other chain?s public statement: http://vegnews.com/articles/page.do?pageId=9914&catId=1
  2. IIt?s very generous of the neighbours to offer their bins for public use. My own are completely full right now, but nearby pavement bins are taking they strain :-)
  3. HACAN?s latest report, released today, finds that he problem has indeed got worse in recent years in the ?Brockley corridor?. Here?s part of the summary: The area is heavily overflown, with typically 38 planes an hour audible to many communities. This could rise to over 40 during busy periods and over 50 in the hour between 6am and 7am (when planes land on both runways at Heathrow). The planes are typically at heights between 5,000ft in the Greenwich area to under 4,000ft at Clapham Common. Heights have changed little in the past few years.  Increased concentration of flights has taken place in recent years. More than ever flights are being guided through ?concentrated corridors? which means that particular communities are especially badly hit. We have deliberately used the word ?corridor? as the planes are not necessarily in a precise line but are within a corridor where they are audible.  The overall number of flights is much the same as when we last surveyed the area 10 years ago but this masks significant changes in certain places: - the number of flights in the east of the region has increased dramatically: daily flights in the Brockley corridor grew by 135 between 2011 and 2017; Greenwich saw an increase of 165 a day. - flights numbers in the ?southern corridor? ? which is focused on the southern runway ? have risen significantly - increased concentration has meant more flights for particular communities. We concluded many more planes are joining their final approach corridors further east than before and are more concentrated within those corridors. We also found evidence of increased night concentration Full report here: http://hacan.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Corridors-of-Concentration-Report.pdf
  4. Who?d be a copper? Having to put up with neighbours complaining about snide comments shouted from time to time. Not to mention the intriguing ?money sign? harassment. I just don?t see why the boys in blue felt need to intervene at all.
  5. Is that a blow-up doll in the passenger seat?
  6. I hadn?t realised the Revolution was going to start in Peckham Rye Park. Were there a lot of ?Marxist maggots? round here to intimidate then? Or more likely, is this a bloke with about two brain cells to rub together, whose top achievement in life is getting some of his English middle class neighbours indignant? Someone needs to get out more eh? (and I don?t mean down the park)
  7. Peckhamplex seems to have more audience participation than other places. It?s one of the joys of the place. Yesterday evening, there was sporadic clapping at heroic moments in Black Panther. I?ve previously noticed the same, even when they screened the Scottish Play. I don?t mind a bit of whispering and rustling, as long as no one has their mobile phone screen on. There were no antisocial mobile screens yesterday, but it is usually a problem at theatres and cinemas. Put it away!
  8. It depends where the good chefs are working, and they do move. The chefs employ all the kitchen staff (possibly the waiters too?). When they have a disagreement with the restaurant owner or get poached, then suddenly the quality changes overnight. So to an extent you need to be wary of older reviews, and judge based on what you see on the day.
  9. Cadbury's are already running adverts claining it's "Creme Egg Season". As if that's a real thing.
  10. Thnaks for the link. I'm not a Nando's fan, it's a step up from the existing chicken places in Peckham though. I can't put my finger on why exactly I don't like Nando's. There's something about the self-serve cutlery situation that really irritates me. Is it the cutlery itself? The fact that you have to go and get your own? A combination? Either way, I just find myself irritated when I go. Bill's for LL? It's just a bistro, with a reputation for treating staff poorly. I used to work in Lewes where it originated, and my colleagues all refused to go there because of "Bill's behaviour", whatever that may be. It's a funny town so maybe take that with a pinch of salt. Even so, I don't know that we need another bistro here, do we?
  11. Desperate scenes today. Only two till open. Self-serve tills taped off. Barely enough room for a young child to navigate a scooter through the aisles, but he?s just about managing it! ?Incident? this mornjng just before opening. Coppers on Site but lots of last minute shopping still happening.
  12. If you?re worried, just use a smaller hammer.
  13. The location doesn?t seem any stranger for tourists than the apparently popular Peckham Lodge (Best Western ?London Peckham?). As a hostel type, it?s similar to the ones in central areas like Kensington. As long as it?s cheaper and well marketed, no reason it can?t work. Now that you can get more sterling for your euro, it?s a good moment to attract European visitors. Hope ED will get a local boost, and welcome an interesting mix of people passing through.
  14. Just wondered if there?s any update. Are your bins still not pulling in the punters? Feel free to address any reply directly to someone who won?t see it, e.g. ?Dear Foreign Lady In Lavender Jumpsuit Taking Pictures of Bins with Samsung Phone?? etc.
  15. OK guys, who's going to own up to making those wind-up suggestions? A couple that stand out: "Explore closing Camberwell Grove at the railway bridge and at the same time closing Grove Park and Chadwick Road at the railway bridge where the two join." Yes, why not build a wall between east and west while we're at it? Or turn it into a drawbridge to keep Grove Park safe from Peckham marauders. "I recommend a SoapBox derby from the closed bridge down to the bottom of the hill! It would be a great event, and would rause money for charity!" Great to see local readers of the Beano having their say!
  16. Measuring the width would be pointless, as it?s a well known fact that your car?s width changes depending how fast it?s going. At least, that?s what most drivers seem to believe in London, as they slow to under 2 mph to make their vehicle narrow enough to pass anyone coming the other way.
  17. Siduhe Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The explanation doesn't make commercial sense to > me at all (why would you install new signs just at > the point you finalise a consultation which could, > in theory, lead to the bridge being reopened?), At first sight seems odd, but then again it?s sensible in the long run. They need to replace the signs, and don?t yet know whether that?s temporary or forever. Using the ?forever? wording means no need to change again (at more cost) later, and if the decision is not curved then you were always going to have to remove the signs anyway so no harm done. Good commercial foresight. Now, let?s get that bridge open :)
  18. Has he done NCS? Open to 15-17 year olds, and probably still some Autumn places for this year. Youth programme credited with building confidence, and meeting other young people from different backgrounds.

Either way, they have done their reputation > a lot of damage in my eyes. A lot of cyclists are singlemindedly obsessed with journey speed. The current arrangement means no waiting at traffic lights, so it may shave a crucial minute off the journey time, often with no annoying stop/start moment on the uphill journey. On the Chadwick Road issue, motorists using the road as a rat run are often speeding far too fast. This is nothing new, it?s just that there are more of them now. It?s both dangerous and noisy: I?m tempted to lobby for a bobby with a speed gun, if they still do that.
  20. I only looked at this thread to see if I?m on it yet. I can only assume my neighbours don?t post here.
  21. Does anyone know if Sainsbury's ED stocks boudoir biscuits, aka sponge fingers? Apparently they're often in the same section as flan bases. Thanks!
  22. I see an opening in the market for laptop dancers in ED
  23. Annoyingly closed for two weeks. Refurb.
  24. Thanks. Didn't know about this shop. Will take a look as it's my housemate's birthday soon, and my usual last minute stand-by of the overpriced niknak shop on Belleden Road has closed down.
