  1. If there's a members' parking permit or something, it's news to me. I just park there. Come to think of it, maybe this explains the age it takes me to get out of the gates when i go home. Maybe members get some card or something to open the gate? I should enquire, as i am after all a member :) Anyway, i've never had trouble getting in. Spaces can be sparse though.
  2. If you post a link to the company's listing on the CH site I'm sure you'll get plenty of analysis in the thread ? no need to be coy ;)
  3. Thank you OP for the heads up. It has made my household just that little bit more alert. Not that we've noticed any more-suspicious-than-normal characters about. Sorry to hear about the break ins. I'm only just resisting the urge to CCTV my place, and may yet give in to buying some eventually.
  4. Count yourself lucky OP. On my road, I heard a woman loudly protesting a neighbour's allegation that she had pooped on their doorstep. Her exact words were, "I only did that once, it wasn't me this time!"

I cycle Most of us don't consider it 'expertise' to know that ignoring red traffic lights falls below the required standard for vehicles. In fairness to you though, you're far from the only cyclist in London who doesn't think it's a big deal. Red means stop. Most bus drivers are professional and careful. We don't need the ones who are in too much of a hurry for safe driving.
  6. If TfL took this as seriously as rail industries do "passing a signal at red" incidents, it simply would not happen. Say what you like about Southern, on the odd occasion they manage to run a train, they don't take chances with our safety! (Edited to try the avoid bold. No idea what's going on there)
  7. At south end of Bellenden Road: http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn185/idiotboy77/77ED567B-927D-413F-BD6C-2E52530FD864_zpsimij0gno.jpg

  9. Erm. So we're discussing the historical evidence for angels in a tree. Good stuff! In other news, Grendel's mother spotted at aquarobics in Dulwich Leisure Centre. Anyway, enjoyed the radio programme. Listened the other night :) Being a genius (as I consider Blake to have been) sounds like bloody hard work.

When it first appeared, I noticed lots of drivers and passers-by pointing and laughing. If it gets attention and business, and keeps a local business in the black, and improves on the reputedly dire former Peckham Lodge, it's all good! :)
  11. And another thing? Zig-zag lines. Looking at you, Bellenden Road users. And you lot on East Dulwich Grove. Bellenden Road needs someone issuing parking tickets for vehicles stopped on the zig-zags. Scooters, vans, cars, you name it. EDG suffers from overtaking. Scooters and cyclists overtaking moving vehicles, sometimes on the inside. Don't stop on the zig-zags. Don't overtake moving vehicles. If you're riding, you can pass stationary traffic but don't go over the crossing if you can't see that it's clear. /rant
  12. Happens on all zebras. I've often banged the side panel of vans and cars which have driven over the crossing while I've been on it. (Especially that one by Warwick Gardens.) Sometimes the driver stops for a lively discussion, so I don't recommend my approach unless you're confident of outrunning gorillas in white vans, who can at times be liberal with offers of violence :) In the present season, there's no need for banging. It's amazing how much more care drivers take when you approach a crossing waving a large umbrella with apparently careless abandon. Particularly BMW drivers: blind to Belisha beacons, but to a man they can spot a paintwork hazard from 300 yards.
  13. Sorry everyone, but can we get back to what's important here please? the_gamechanger Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Did he say where he got the pills from?
  14. It took me nearly a year to get compensation out of BA for a flight delayed by six hours. The compensation paid for most of the air fare to my subsequent holiday. Totally worth it. I Followed the advice on moneysavingexpert.com Complaints departments often have a policy of 'rejecting' complaints first time around, but if you stick to your guns you'll get there.

You have tried to improve matters with counselling. Would you like permission to walk away now? We really can't give you permission. Only you can. If there is a better option, you will already know what it is. But if walk away is your best option now, it sounds like you want to plan things to minimise the upheaval for your girl. None of us can know what you need to do now. Whether your decision will be stay or go, I wish you strength to take it, and a happier future. x
  16. I have some exotic crops that I need somewhere discreet to cultivate. If I could intersperse them among your prize marrows or whatnot, I could probably help out with the facilitation fee?
  17. Does seem excessive that the law feels the need to intervene. The bakery had nothing nice to say ? the law apparently doesn't afford them the right to say nothing at all. It's not like they have banned anyone from buying their soda farls or gur cakes. I even admire them a bit for standing by their convictions, however silly the convictions are. They could have just refused the order giving any number of other excuses (e.g. We don't like your requested design / we're busy"). Being honest instead is an honourable offence really.
  18. Your builder seems a sound fellow. Enquirer which way he prefers. (Your wife will know!)
  19. The pocket handkerchief remains firmly in fashion across Scandinavia (and Finland). Often worn flamboyantly erupting from a blazer. When I worked for a Swedish company I eventually developed a taste for it myself. Having said that, the most important thing is to wear stuff you know looks smart, and doesn't make you feel uncomfortable. Pocket squares are good if you're confident enough not to feel the need to check and fiddle with them. British businessmen are renowned for simple smart elegance, so a lounge suit and tie would enable you to emphasise any British decency stereotypes.
  20. Penguin68 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Travellers are excluded from these services > Better rubbish collection services can be organised on permanent > traveller sites, but these are few and far between. Regarding the 'official' sites, local authorities are required to provide sites. I believe Southwark operates 4, but that info might be a bit out of date so I'm happy to stand corrected if anyone knows better. A problem with official sites is that they tend to be run by a particular family, and where that is the case then whether spaces are available to you can, in practice, be a function of gypsy politics. So the system is there, it's a question of making it work. There should be no need for pitching up on land you're not allowed to use. Regarding waste collection: Brighton & Hove City Council's approach is interesting. When travellers appear, B&H waste services rock up with bins, I think they install temporary toilets too. They certainly make a proactive effort to anticipate rubbish. Meanwhile, the neighbouring Sussex councils have a totally different approach: co-ordinated multi-agency teams visit unauthorised traveller sites within 24 hours of pitching. Trading standards check who is licensed to do what, and keep tabs on any work being done locally. The police check vehicle insurance etc. Children's social care finds out who is looking after whose kids. Places are found in schools. Etc. You can guess which side of the authority borders travellers in that area tend to pitch. Sounds like Southwark have acted at least similarly to the southern county councils. To me, there's nothing wrong with saying "Here is where you can pitch", and as long as sufficient provision is made then enforcing the law to discourage unauthorised pitches.
  21. Sorry Larry, but I'm a stickler for punctuality. If your client can't be bothered to turn up on time, I'm not interested in helping him. Wealth is no excuse for tardiness. Regretfully yours, Hon. Teyme de Liverie
  22. It's not just the employees whose egos you can massage. (Self-) Important clients appreciate being assigned a Strategic Client Relationship Director. People with that on their business card often have a separate 'internal' job title, like 'client partner'. Manager. Executive. Associate. Partner. All generic words with no particular consistent meaning to worry about. Officer. Clerk. Assistant. All dying descriptors.
  23. LadyN has it. Offer and acceptance happens at the till. It's still annoying though!

  25. Be aware that there are will writers who are not lawyers. Having seen a probate nightmare unfold after the death of a family friend who left a will which was not done by a lawyer, I've decided to stump up the extra for an actual solicitor. Among other things, the solicitor's notes can be considered by the courts, if there are any questions of interpretation when you are no longer there to explain what you meant.
