Send all three kids to the local state school and, if you have any spare cash, add some additional learning where or if needed... music, languages, extra help if not doing well in a specific subject, etc... In 1 out 5 households (within a male and female relationship) the woman is now the main breadwinner and 1 in 5 men are now the primary carer of children within families in the UK. I guess you could say Prince has achieved the '30 year of success and still going strong' status He's released more than 30 albums since 1978 and his show at O2 was pretty spectacular http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1407/1428167890_a7addaba4f.jpg

some of Bowie's early videos were pretty amazing, visually stunning and streets ahead of their time http://cdn.7static.com/static/img/sleeveart/00/003/069/0000306997_350.jpg there is something about artists from that era, so visually creative, look at Annie Lennox, another fine example, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wk4lCXt7JKo http://cucharasonica.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/587annie20lenox.jpg I guess it's partly to do with the Art School scene in the 70's... out of which came Brian Ferry/Roxy Music , http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3279/2324700116_5a6d3cd24a.jpg Spandau Ballet/Tony Hadley and the whole new romantic thing. Steve Stange and the Camden Palace... http://image.guardian.co.uk/sys-images/Guardian/Pix/gallery/2002/01/17/dpub_strange80s.jpg there was somehow a burst of creativity around that time in Britain, not sure what the triggers are for that kind creative of surge... but let's have another one!

Melbourne Grove Medical Centre
charliecharlie replied to bathsheba's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Poor you... what a horrid experience, I went to see Dr Johnson there and he was really lovely, gave me plenty of time to talk through a few things, (virus caused ear infection that had effected my hearing, plus I was off traveling and needed some medication related to the trip. etc), he took specific care to explain any side effects of the drugs, what they did, benefits etc, and was thoughtful and gentle, everything you could want from a GP. A friend of mine went the Melbourne Grove practice with depression, she went to see Dr Penny Ackland, she came back from the appointment full of praise and saying Dr Ackland had been brilliant... she said that she was kind, supportive and knowledgable and gave her plenty of time... I would suggest that you see if you can make an appointment with her or Dr Johnson. I know the booking system and the reception can be a real turn off at the practice and your experience was really dreadful but they clearly have some very good doctors, it might be worth trying so see one of the above. You need good support and guidance through this difficult time, so ask for it... kind regards and stay steady, things will get better with time and the right help xxCC -
Wow.. what a fantastic image... beautiful photograph thanks CC

yes... dear Denis Noble and the white lady of Camberwell, a time when eccentrics were part of the character of the area. I lived on Lyndhurst Grove and often used to see both of them around and about, harmlessly doing their own thing. I remember Denis's house was open to the elements at the back and he slept curled up with is dogs to keep warm at night to survive the winter. I am pretty sure he was a photographic journalist before his mental health issues took over, but not sure where his studio was... I have Pimlico in the back of my mind...

My niece, aged 4 came back from nursery one day and was chatting about how naughty some of the kids were and how to be good at school... her mum said "you know how to be good Flossie, don't you" she said "yes - not say fucky hell to Miss Jackson" Miss Jackson was her poor teacher

My nephew, at the age of 4, was cuddling up to my Mum (his Grandma) and looking lovingly into her eyes... "Granoie" (that's what used to her called her), "Yes darling?"... "Granoie... (long pause)... your face looks just like a landslide"... oh, how the mighty are fallen, my Mum used to be a model... http://barbadosfreepress.files.wordpress.com/2006/12/greenland-barbados-landslide-2.jpg

Melbourne Grove Medical Practice
charliecharlie replied to tonyw3's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Firstly, sorry this is a bit long!!!(!) I echo the concerns above... I became a patient of the Melbourne Grove practice about 2 yrs ago. The two times I have seen doctors (Dr Ackland and Dr Johnson) they have ben exemplary and well above any GP experience I have had elsewhere. HOWEVER, and this is a big however, the appointment booking system is a disaster. I understand why they have had to bring this in ("too many people taking up the doctors' time over snivels and therefore little time left for those who genuinely need to see a doctor") but the current system is not working, for patients that is. 1. I teach so it is often impossible to call me back, as I am not contactable when I am with students. You can not call the nurse back if you miss a call, so how do I make it work for me if I am juggle work and health issues??? I am sure many others are in similar situations. 2. To have someone call you back when you are in a meeting in a public place (even when you tell them so) and to be put in a position where it is neigh impossible not to mention private matters (in this case my periods) is DREADFUL - insensitive and inappropriate. I was in lunch time meeting with clients and had to leap up and dash off, half way through a sentence, to hover in the loos so I could talk in private. 3. And what happened to patient confidentially... so it's fine for them to keep confidence about our health issues, but is deemed perfectly OK to put their patients in a position where they have to discuss private matters in a public environment. Not right. 4. A friend of mine, who also uses the practice and was politely complaining about the appointment system, was called a ?rassclut? by receptionist, definitely not the sort of language or behaviour one would expect from a doctors? receptionist. 5. Another friend was also told that, as she had not seen a doctor for some years, they would have to take her off the register(so be warned healthy EDers). When she said she could not help ?not being ill?, they said that she would need to make more effort to come in a see a doctor in future. They were NOT joking... bizarre beyond belief!!! -
