Peckhamgatecrasher Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Forget giving up the cars. Looks like we'll have > to go vegetarian: good point Peckhamrose... also, if not going vegetarian, try eating more chicken and less beef to 'grow' one kilo of beef requires 11 kilos of food stuff for pork it is 7 kilos to one kilo of edible meat and for the dear old chicken... two kilo of feed to result in one kilo of chicken pretty obvious that being veggie (ie one kilo of veg = one kilo of veg!!) is the best option but hey, we're not all perfect just do what you can *adds [re]think to my list of reminders to self* [re]claim, [re]create, [re]cycle, [re]duce, [re]make, [re]mind, [re]source and [re]use

well Mikecg... I went though the punk/drugs thing from about 14 to 20 and went to art school, I think the college period wsa when I began to trust that I had a creative mind and was a quick thinker... I then had to earn a living so I got a part time job working in a studio, I mixed this with chef-ing to get by, it was all very Vivienne Westwood... when i was a kid at school I thought I was stupid... so played up to make people laugh - at least that was something I was good at... later on I found out that I that I was dyslexic and ending up doing an MA at the RCA... ... now I am officially an ?academic? or so it says on my London University contract... hey Mikcg... miracles can happen... ps now you can turn your lights back on xxcc

oh... (as Nessa would say from Gavin and Stacey)... love her... I have just remembered another best Crab and silken tofu hot pot overlooking West Lake in Hangzhou A client took us to this amazing restuarant... the great thing was that they always included everybody, from the driver and the most junior staff to the director, so we all sat down together and had this amazing feast... the food just kept coming but thie highlight of the evening was this fantastic fresh crab dish... right off the scale of deliciousness http://photos.igougo.com/images/p238103-Hangzhou-West_Lake.jpg -
...it started out so well, but then all when horribly wrong... I thought it would be such a wheeze to get in the Geography teachers car (which he never locked) and drive it down the hill so it would be in a different place when he came out of classes. Thing is... I was 13 and had never driven anything before, let alone a car... I took the hand-brake off and off I went, everyone standing by... next minute I found myself gathering speed down this steep hill, I had no idea what the fcuk I was doing, I panicked, lost control and with an almighty bang crashed the car into a ditch... everyone was absolutely pissing themselves laughing but, oh dear.... three stitches later, and one seriously, heavy ticking off from the head teacher, charliecharlie finds herself chucked out of yet another school... funny how things can seem such a good idea at the time.... http://hcl.harvard.edu/hfa/images/films/2005summer/treasure_belles_of_st_trinians.jpg

Is anyone joining the demonstrations? let's hope they are peaceful (tu) People are angry and (given the use of vast sums of tax payers money) quite understandabley so. I keep getting flashbacks of the poll tax riots... I hope it doesn't turn into another battle ground.

[quote=Mikecg ...What did you learn in school today?] I learnt that even the most out of control 15yr olds can blossom given the right encouragement... I am not a school teacher but spent yesterday with 40 inner city school kids doing a design project called 'trainers of the future'. We used the trainer as a way to get them to 'dream' about what might be possible, think about other people's needs and understand how design can be used to improved peoples lives. You can't see form the pic all the magical ideas they had embeedded in their design thinking, but for example, the punky looking shoe... "the yellow spikes fly out when you are in danger on the streets and create a protective circle around you so you can not be harmed", the pale pink one (which is for babies) has "a button that you press to play a special kind of music that calms the baby, so it stops crying and starts smiling" They has 2 hours to do the project and worked in teams.... well you did ask Mikecg edited a hundred times cos I can't sort out my pic to be small enough...

I had a very nasty problem with nuisance calls last year... I know it might not sound that scary until you have experienced it... however, a horrid sinister, fake psycho voice and vile things said can really throw you. I called the BT Nuisance Call Bureau, they put a trace on my phone and recommended I reported it to the police, they then managed to trace the caller and find out where they were calling from as well as the name of the person on the bill... The police, who were also amazing, (I thought they might think I was making a fuss about nothing but no... they told me that 'mental abuse' which it comes under, is taken as seriously as physical abuse now and can receive a prison sentence of up to 6mth) caught the guy. It was someone I met once at a friends' house over dinner... he seemed fairly normal but turned out to be a nasty little screwed up nutter! He, of course denied it, but as he lives alone and the calls were made from his address, it was pretty clear who it was! The police visited and gave him a tough time and an official warning, and told him it was now on record that nuisance calls were made from his phone, and that his name, address and number were now on the nuisance calls register. Result!!! End of phone calls!!! The police encouraged me to make a statement and pursue it though official channels, as generally once a person has been caught, they do not continue to abuse other people... I recommend that you report it... BT Nuisance Call Bureau: 0800 411422

good, very good! Huguenot. I like you list of tips... it's too easy to just say my small contributions don't add up enough to make it worth bothering... that's just a lazy and weak argument... I try to do one big energy saving project to my house each year I have a car but I only do 3,000 miles per year and use public transport a lot What about trying to stick to European wines (as well as not buying veg that come from Argentina for example) we know that air transport accounts for 5% of global emissions but people often say "shipping isn't a problem"... they are wrong... shipping accounts for 2% of total global emissions... Don't have anything on stand by (how many little glowing clock do you need in one household?) Get a composting bin (super cheap via Southwark as subsidised) Grow your own and if you get a glut, give the surplus to friends and neighbours Get your milk delivered (glass bottles are then recycled) I would like some better data on this one, as I think am doing the right thing here but not sure... Be creative, reuse stuff in a clever way Buy second hand furniture... you can still pick up stylish mid 20th century piece for less than the Habitat equivalent Discuss it... influence people gently when ever you can [re]claim, [re]create, [re]cycle, [re]duce, [re]make, [re]mind, [re]source and [re]use. Do what you can folks... all the small contributions add up to one hell of a lot!!!!!

drink a big glass of milk, the fat in it will absorb some of the caffeine and settle you down a bit... not based on anything in particular but instinct I have been there big time, years ago... so I sympathise I don't drink coffee any more deep breaths and it will pass xxcc

Wrong and wrong again Bignumber5..... not a joke about 'old sunnies' as you call them, see web link below not arbitrary images, both exactly and precisely related to the topic... as the thread is about sunglasses for this summer, how can 2 images of sunglasses for summer 2009 not be relevant?????? http://www.handbag.com/fashion/high-street-hot-100-spring-summer-2009-accessories-cos-sunglasses/gallery [quote name=The joke' date=' such > as it was, was clear after the first picture. Old > sunnies. Get it. But please can you stop loading > threads with arbitrary images? ] a tad out of touch maybe?????
