I have no objection to them. There are memorials to the dead all over the place. Benches, plaques, statues, war memorials. For many who have lost a loved one then it is a source of comfort that they are remembered and maybe possibly in the case of car accidents or murder then people may think about the consequences of their actions.

What the hell is going on on Barry Road? (shooting)

Gun's and gun crime are sadly on the increase. When it happens on your door step it brings it ever more into focus. The person who has been brutally slain has a family, friends and possibly children. My thoughts are with them. To the people who did this, Justice will be done, you will be caught. -
When my son was young he couldn't pronounce Lordship Lane. He used to say 'Are we going to Lordshit Lane?'

Had this problem with my cat.The vet recommended castration. Perhaps a little extreme. A simple sorry will suffice.

There's a camp site in Hampshire/New Forest called 'Sandy Balls' always made us laugh when we were 10 years old.

It is Beltwood. The entrance is the now padlocked gate on Sydenham Hill, a couple of yards from the memorial. I went to a party there about 10years ago. There was a Christian group/commune living there and they let it out for private parties. The house and grounds were beautiful but quite run down. At the back of the house was a stable block and a couple of small cottages (2 up 2 down). It had a very magical kind of time forgot feel to it. I can't imagine the state it is in now if animals have been roaming around it. It sounds like thankfully all the animals are now safe and well. I don't know who owns it, but if anyone wants to open that much needed hotel/guest house it would be the perfect place. You would need bucket loads of money though.

Totally can't disagree about the Big City banks etc, but a solitary individual scamming, and intimidating peolple who may be also suffering from the effects of down turn in the economy is like adding insult to injury.

Sorry for labouring the point but just to let people know that somtimes things can turn nasty.

I know they are not bands but Madonna and Miriah Carey? Just don't see the appeal. Miriah can definately sing and Madonna can dance but i don't get the universal acclaim.

I'm not suggesting at all that this is the same lady but i'll share this story with you. About 9 years ago my dad had been visiting my Nan in Streathham. As he came out of her house he was approached by 2 women who asked him for some money for a cab. They said that one of the womens young son was alone at home and the electricity would run out soon. They were very plausable. He asked them where they lived and they said it was in Dulwich, as he was driving back to Dulwich he said he would drive them to the address. They got in the car and on the way they asked if he could stop at a petrol station so they could get the electricity card charged. One got out and went into the petrol station. When she came back the second asked if he could drop her off further down Christchurch Rd. When he stopped the car the one in the back got out. The one in the front demanded money from him. He of course said no. She lunged at him and pulled out a stanely knife and slashed at his hands. He fought her off. He had to have surgery to repair the damaged tendons in his hands. Whilst in hospital he gave a detailed description to the police and told them to go to the petrol station and recover the cc tv camers film. By the time the police went to the petrol station the film had been filmed over. The women who did this were never caught.
