  1. 07983688451 (from the top of the thread). Good luck with the emergency!
  2. Hi David A and Huguenot. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply, we really appreciate it. We opted for Sri Lanka and the Maldives in the end but the others are definitely still on the to do list so your advice will come in handy. Thank you again.
  3. Hello all Not being overly well travelled, my husband and I would like to hear your opinions on the below destinations in the Asia region. We're hoping to go away for two weeks in late November/early December and ideally would like to visit interesting sights, in a city or otherwise, in the first week and have a relaxing second week, most definitely involving clear blue sea where you can see your feet when you stand in the water! We'd be really grateful for any positives, negatives, ideas, tips etc that you may have. There's so much choice and we haven't got a clue as all the destinations look amazing. Thailand Vietnam/Cambodia/Laos Bali/Lombok Malaysia/Borneo Sri Lanka/Maldives Mauritius/Seychelles Many thanks.
  4. Thanks Sophie, Damon and Nette, much appreciated. I'll give all routes a go and find the quickest one. The cycling option is tempting but I'd have to buy a bike and build my confidence up good and proper to ride in London - I'm a bit of a wimp! Perhaps a new challenge has been set!
  5. There are direct trains from Peckham Rye station to Eltham (although not in the middle of the night!) so if you do decide to move to this great place, you might want to consider being within easy reach of PR.
  6. Hello all. I'm starting a new job in just over a week's time in Marylebone and wonder if there is anyone who travels there regularly and has a quick route? I'm on the 12 route (Barry Road) so can obviously catch a bus to Oxford Circus/Regent Street and walk but that but can take quite a while. Other options I've thought of are bus to Elephant & Castle and Bakerloo line up to Regent's Park or train to London Bridge and Jubilee to Baker Street. Has any one got any opinions on these or have any other tried and tested routes? Many thanks. SW.
  7. Another shout out for Andy. He came out to us tonight within an hour of calling (a Friday night at 7pm), fixed the problem there are then, gave advice and tips, was knowledgeable, friendly and reasonably priced. Would thoroughly recommend him and we would definitely use him again. Thank you Andy.
  8. Thank you for all your thoughts and advice, I really appreciate it. Shopping day is Saturday and sadly, I'm really looking forward to it! Thanks again.
  9. Hello all I'm running my first half marathon in October (in fact my first race other than a 5k!) and for my birthday present my husband is getting me some running trainers. I wondered if any of you have had positive experiences in either Run and Become or Runners Need or any other shops in London where they do gait analysis? I'd be grateful for your thoughts. Thank you.
  10. They do indeed take card and I would add another positive recommendation, they're great!
  11. Thank you all, you're great! I think I will take PeckhamRose's advice and go to Mudchute and perhaps squeeze in Surrey Docks after. emc, hope you managed to get to Vauxhall today, the 185 is the best bus from Lordship Lane in case you need it for future reference. witsd - looks like Hackney farm is still going strong, take a look at the link peterstorm left. pablogrande - thank you for the link to Christmas Tree Farm, I will definitely take a trip there soon. Thank you again.
  12. Morning all I'm looking to visit one of the London farms next Saturday for my birthday and wondered if anyone has any tips on which ones are great. As much as I love Vauxhall City Farm it's tiny and not somewhere you could spend a few hours and have lunch. There appear to be quite a few in London and as I'm absolutely useless at making decisions I need some help in choosing! Has anyone been to Surry Docks or Mudchute Farms for example? I've even just found out there is one in Spitalfields which I had no idea about even though it's close to where I work. Any opinions will be much appreciated. Many thanks SW
  13. My husband got me one for Christmas and we love him (or her)! We got him from www.thetortoiseshop.com/ who have been very friendly and helpful. We got a horsfield and he is full of character and loves to climb, and he can get a shifty on when he wants to, they're not as slow as you might think! So, to add to the cat and two guinea pigs we already have, all we need now is a dog! Happy to answer any questions you have, albeit with my very limited experience.

    Flowers

Pesh Flowers on Denmark Hill have a flower school. I have no idea on the quality of the courses on offer but have just seen them advertised as I've gone by the shop on the bus.
  15. I've seen it in Morrisons in Peckham.
  16. And going back on topic, I really like the new tower block at E&C. If nothing else, it's a good landmark for getting your bearings, will always know where Elephant is now.
  17. Castellos is on Jamaica Road. Turn right out of Bermondsey tube station, keep on the same side of the road and it's nearly the last one in the parade of shops. Mmm...lovely stuff!
  18. Sloe gin and apple juice is just lovely.
  19. No seriously. I live up the top end of Whateley Road, near the corner with Crystal Palace Road. Heard some shouting outside my window and being the nosy person I am had a good look outside - saw an armed policeman running up Whateley Road and turn right into CPR (strangely enough he had a police flat cap on but was wearing normal clothes). This was too intriguing for words so kept looking out - few police officers standing on the corner of Whateley/Ulverscroft and then five mins later a uniformed armed policeman was standing outside my door (hence taking the rubbish down so I could be nosey!). He told me to go back inside, another five mins went by then the helicopter started hovering overhead and then another five mins (all times are approximate!) later two police cars with their sirens blaring rushed up Whateley but this time turned left onto CPR. Would love to know what was going on, I wasn't the only person to have noticed as people were walking down Whateley Road as the police were there and saw someone hanging out of their window when the helicopter was overhead. Felt like I was in the Bronx! Any further information would be much appreciated.
  20. Police helicopter me thinks - armed policeman on Whateley/Crystal Palace Roads. Took my rubbish out tonight and a policeman with a bloomin' large machine gun told me to go back inside. Anyone know what's going on? It all goes on in East Dulwich!
