  1. What next, cats and dogs living together...mass hysteria?
  2. Can I interest you in some fork handles instead?
  3. The chavs have figured out it's easier to break the lock and disable the tracking device on the yellow bikes than it is on the [nicer looking] orange ones, so any locked up can be reported to the Police and related company. It's less common to see stolen Boris bikes nowadays as these hire bikes are a lot lighter and less likely to be noticed by the Police out of hire areas. Sad to see these schemes being abused, would be nice if bikes could be fitted with shock devices to execute theives on the spot.
  4. I don't know man, I disagree that anyone should be fined for a momentary lapse in concentration / judgement which didn't put anyone in danger or cause any harm. The morally bankrupt council of Southwark sending 2 people to fight the case is pretty disgusting and another typical example of just how ethically challenged they are. Good on you for fighting the scumbags and winning.
  5. I love birds, and wildlife in general, so it's really nice to hear it made it, thanks to you being awesome and the great work by the vets!
  6. Yup, this added 20 minutes (!) to our bus journey this morning so if you have a hospital appointment, leave early. Also, both bus stops on the southbound side of Camberwell Green are out of service, so if you plan on changing there, you'll have to walk up to the next bus stop, not ideal if you have lots to carry in this heat!
  7. Is he called Little Nicky?
  8. I've seen this cat in action; it was giving a poor nervous black and white male cat such a sarf London smackdown I expected Danny Dyer to be doing a commentary. When I chased it off, it gave off quite a growl, then as soon as my back was turned ran back for round two; it's a real troublemaker!
  9. I'm really sorry to hear about what happened and it's maddening to hear that the police can't even be arsed to do anything about it, or are unable to due to lack of funding or maybe their rules state they aren't to pursue this kind of thing, I have no idea, I get the feeling that most police would like to help and do more but are unable to do so due to how they are governed. Either way, it sucks : ( Regarding archives and backups, when choosing an option, I highly recommend your boyfriend takes a look into the following sub on reddit. He might also want to build a NAS for your home, and another identical one for his parents or trusted friend or relation that he can also send backups to. If the company he has a plan with doesn't have adequate emergency planing, or indeed, simply goes bust, taking all the data with them, it's good to have that always recommended third copy of everything in place. I know it's an extra expense, but, sadly I guess he's unfortunately learnt first hand that without an offiste backup, your data is about as safe as a biscuit at a tea party. https://www.reddit.com/r/DataHoarder/
  10. Zaru (cold) soba gets my vote, especially if you have some ice both in the dip and in the bowl of noodles to keep everything refreshingly cool!
  11. The Co-Op and M&S both have a couple of seats near the front entrance, so you can enjoy both their ice cold aircon and a slight breeze for free.
  12. Photography! There's some nice short courses at the wonderful Mary Ward Centre and I can also highly recommend the Photoshop class run by Mark at the Idea Store in Limehouse, that centre is rumoured to be closing, sadly. Cycling is my new thing I'll be starting again thanks to flocker spotter, so I may do some writing based on that too.
  13. Sorry to hear what happened to you. I was also conned by a user [right clicking] who tried blaming me for the damage! I was trying to help him out and got lumped with faulty goods instead. A few months ago I went to a focus group held by eBay, and part of the led discussion included other sites people sold or bought goods at. A few attendees said they lived nowhere near ED, but regularly sold things on the forum as it was "well known as a rich area full of knobs who'll pay over the odds" and it was also mentioned "it's easy to shift battered gear on there". There certainly are a good few users here who are solely active in the for sale section, maybe next time make sure the seller is an active user of the community aspects of the forum, probably got a better chance of dealing with a decent individual. Again, sorry to hear about your bad experience, I hope something good can come of it.
  14. Crawthew Grove is one of the best streets in the area; 30 seconds to Lordship Lane or North Cross road market, less than 10 mins to ED station, 5 mins or less to Goose Green, is lined by trees, visited by a variety of cats, birds and foxes, incredibly quiet during the day, what more could you want?
  15. I saw a guy, white, early 30s? athletic build go down the path towards ED station two weeks ago, went at speed down the middle path despite people walking up towards Sainsburys and shouted expletives at them to move, disgusting behaviour. That tiny path is a warzone as it is without idiots like this behaving like that. Hope you are not too shook up and report it.
  16. Although I like the pieces done in the areas mentioned by Redjam, think there's one in Bromley too, as someone who has lived in ED since 1980, 5 mins from the station, am definitely against a copy of those works, ED deserves better than that, voted for Blue Shop Cottage, although am also fond of D*face's work, am sure to be delighted with whatever either come up with.
  17. Ah it was my dad who had the transfusion, and that would have been in the 50s, luckily I've never had to have one.
  18. I'm pretty sure in the 80s it had the same name as the one next to the newsagent opposite what was then, one of 3 local Place Bakeries stores. I remember at one point the price of a bag of chips went up every couple of weeks for some reason...
  19. Thanks for the info malambu, I was tempted by the keyring, but the sticker and crisps have got me sold! My dad gave blood throughout his adult life, I guess because he once had a nasty accident and almost lost a leg (run over by a tram) and so I figure he was always grateful for the blood he must have received.
  20. Will they tell you what blood type you are if you start giving blood? Last time I asked about it, Kings charge something like ?20 to find out.
  21. He used to make fantastic chips and there was plenty of competition, with the chip shop next to the butchers opposite what's now Meat Liquor which also had a sister shop on Northcross road and iirc there was a pretty decent one on Barry road in those days, too.
  22. Saw this hanging up on the information board this evening, hope it finds its rightful owner https://imgur.com/a/TgdyEG9
  23. This makes me so sad. One of the things I love most about this area, having grown up here, is the abundance of bird life we have, and living on a pretty quiet street, seeing and hearing birds (as well as cats and foxes) has always given me immense pleasure. We used to get hedgehogs visiting in the 80s, haven't seen any sign of one for ages though, maybe due to people getting higher fences built. Will definitely look out for anything like this happening.
  24. Thank you, have filled it out. The idea of being seen by a nurse rather than a doctor as asked in the survey is of concern.
  25. Great result, but you both must be pretty shook up. Hope the good weather comes back so you can have a nice day out and begin to put it behind you.
