  1. Presuming they'll be rising 4 then you have a state preschool as part of Goose Green Primary which is well regarded (I think Bellenden Road Primary has one too, but I know nothing about it). All of the pre-preps have 3+ entries although waiting lists can be long, we had a good experience at Oakfield and friends of ours loved The Villa. There are regular threads about day nurseries but I don't know anything about them.
  2. I think most full-time working parents (including us) use a childminder, au pair or nanny to do pickups. Afterschool clubs tend to be restricted to reception and above, even then some discourage it for reception as they feel it makes the day too long for them. Similarly Holidays are a real pain as we never found holiday clubs that took under 4s and even now our son is in reception the choice is fairly limited compared to what's available for older kids. On the other hand, our son developed so much more in a part time nursery class in a school than he did in a full day commercial nursery so if you can make it work it's really worthwhile.
  3. Why would real bricks be better here? They'd be more expensive to repair and will be less thermally efficient than modern construction methods. My principal complaints about those flats are: 1. No effort to colour match the brick tiles to the attached station building 2. Building a balcony without accompanying protection on the pavement to stop trucks cutting the corner
  4. What is strange is that we (in Adys Rd) have always been covered by Highshore Rd and have never had the issues with theft. I can understand delayed mail due to the backlog moved from Silvester Rd only affecting the old Silvester Rd routes, but why does the theft all seems to be concentrated in those routes too?
  5. I'd also like to endorse Gary Vu, he came round when other electricians hadn't bothered to quote. He did a great job at a fair price. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him.

  7. I had an electrician waste his time and mine coming round and then never bothering to send a quote despite two polite reminder emails.
  8. The Belham Primary School's fair is this Saturday (1 December) 11.00 ? 2.00pm. It's the first fair in the new school building which is great.

  10. I use flipper which manages my switching whenever a better deal is identified. I know I can do it myself but I am not brilliant at getting round to these things and so I?m happy to pay for the automation.
  11. Begging Bowl is currently closed for refurbishment.
  12. rollflick Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > we are the parking lot being one > of the nearest areas to zone 1 without CPZs? I suspect that's the cause of all of the vans/campers dumped here for months on end without moving. I'm generally against CPZs but at least it would clear out a lot of the long term parkers.
  13. Oakfield Pre-prep offer mornings or afternoons for rising 3s and rising 4s. They're only term time and I doubt they take kids mid-year. For rising 4s then Goose Green and Bellenden Primary both have nurseries that are mornings or afternoons.
  14. There is a party for kids at Anneto 5:30-8pm with entertainment and food. It's ?15 for kids, 2 for 1 on drinks for adults.
  15. Sorry Tess I didn?t mean to insult you. What I think I wanted to say is that much of the medical bits were things we?d picked up elsewhere. We also did our NCT class quite late in our pregnancy and so this probably meant we were already more prepared than most. What we valued the most was the opportunity to build a community of families that would be with us through the first months post birth. I still think it was absolutely worth the money (and then some) and wouldn?t dream of asking for a refund. I?m less sure we got much value from the ongoing membership of NCT post birth, but I?m happy to support a worthwhile cause and I know some of our friends stayed much more involved.

Why wouldn?t bollards on the edge of the pavement to protect that corner be possible. Surely it hasn?t been designed such that vehicles need to illegally cut the corner to navigate that turn?
  17. I'd go with RIBA the promotion and brand association seems well worth it. I'd also consider why you're producing the book: money, publicity for your business or professional standing? It would seem that being published by RIBA would achieve the second two elements far better than self publishing. I don't know enough about the economics of publishing to know which would be best for you financially.
  18. What I noticed today is that the corner that keeps getting knocked is a couple of foot back from the edge of the footpath. Clearly lorries are (illegally) cutting the footpath to make the turn; I'd have thought a couple of bollards should resolve the matter. Perhaps a camera to allow drivers to be prosecuted too?
  19. If you have a mysouthwark online account the "printable view" is pretty much identical to the postal version.
  20. Captain Marvel Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I'd pay up if I were you Why? This is well known scam and the account in question has rarely been compromised. They harvest a list of old emails/passwords from data breaches like the LinkedIn hack and spam them out hoping to trick people who have been reusing passwords across sites. The "photo"/"screenshot" threat is just to add a bit of peril and get people to pay up. On the off-chance it were genuine, what's to make you think that paying $841 would stop them doing what they've threatened to do? My advice: report to it Action Fraud, implement two-factor authentication and move on.
  21. Definitely a con, it's really common at the moment. I would suggest she looks at have https://haveibeenpwned.com/ and see if her email address turns up in one of the data breaches they track. That will give her an idea of what might be compromised and need changing. Macs don't really need endpoint protection (anti-virus) and for Windows machines Defender from Microsoft is fine. What I would suggest is a) use unique passwords for every site b) switch on two-factor authentication on any service where it's available.
  22. We did NCT in East Dulwich. Don't expect to learn all that much, you're really paying to have a group of five other local families all with babies due around the same time. It's still well worth it though. Good luck.
  23. RugbyTots takes kids from age two. It's on Sundays at Dulwich College. You might have more replies posting this in the family room discussion area.
  24. The threshold to register as an employer for PAYE is ?116 a week, but NI doesn't kick in until ?162 a week and PAYE doesn't start until ?221 a week. With most au pairs getting sub-?100 a week as basic pay/pocket money it is unlikely that even with extra babysitting money they/their employers owe any tax or NI. There are probably a lot of people just nudging over the ?116 where they should be registered though. We use nannytax to do our registration.

Provided they're in an approved carseat (appropriate for their height and weight) and you are following the airbag instructions for your vehicle then this is legal and safe at any age. Also just to mention ISOFIX, your five year old is probably getting too heavy for ISOFIX except for keeping a high backed booster in place (depending on the chair 15-18kgs seems to be the cut off). I've had friends say great things about the Car Seat Centre in Essex, in the end we chose Rear Facing Toddlers because it was easier to have someone come to us.
