I used (sigh) to play on Yahoo Games - it's called literati on there - slightly diff board but exactly the same principles. Timed games are quite addictive!

Roundabout at Goose Green

Hi Mark, Lordy - I don't want bollards on there either - I was just referring to the post! I agree with you - some art or other significant feature would be lovely. Not really fussed about signage and would like something a little different other than just another tree .... though of course all trees are good things :) -
Roundabout at Goose Green

Can I just say that i LOVE our bollards. I don't regard them as "street clutter" as all. I think it's really nice to have something functional yet quirky - which is exactly what they are. And there are some lovely mosaics on Bellenden Road as part of that commission as well. Personally I love art dotted around - it makes me feel I am part of a unique environment, with character and interest. How dull if everything was uniform. -

Hello there! Can I come please? Is it very competitive? I have been banned by hubby playing online so need another supplier for my scrabble fix!

One of the topics up for discussion on the breakfast show now is the re-invention of the WI - and the two examples they are giving are Islington and East Dulwich! Wow! Essentially it's a phone-in show so if anyone is feeling brave (and indeed reads this before 9am) then give them a call!

Just to let everyone know I have had a really positive conversation with the deputy head at Goose Green School. She thought the project fitted really well with the school's current initiative to gain "eco status" and would be really interested in taking part. A couple of other schools I am waiting to hear back from. Clare - I am not sure which school you teach at but it would be great if you could pm me (or Ko who is also contacting schools)as a teacher putting forward the idea might add weight to the proposal (I felt a bit like a cold caller!).

Hello again, July 16th is ages away .... two months! We can contact schools and still get our application in in that time if we pull together. An application won't need everything wrapped up - indeed the very opposite is true, funders will want to be able to say their money helped the schools run the competition (in an indirect way). I had a look at the application online - it's a borough wide one so it is highly unlikely that we could get an extension - but it's pretty straightforward and by putting names of schools down as parners and beneficiaries I think we will be in a really really strong position. I think this is quite exciting!

Sundays are such a difficult day for radio .. though I am looking forward to trying out Sean's suggestion of Natasha. I remember when I first met hubby, there was Jackie Clune on BBC London and it was a fantastic show. We stayed in bed for hours listening!

Claire and Monica - this sounds very exciting! With a school competition we could get a nice photo in the paper and some really lovely publicity for the bag and for the forum. I have no artistic talent but if anyone would like help with the other practical stuff- publicity, fundraising application, etc, then please pm me.

I am only relieved that Jono Coleman has left the London breakfast show. He was like an overgrown schoolboy - I found myself SCREAMING at the radio... I used to enjoy Jo Good in the 10pm slot -it's all become very solemn now and has really lost its sense of fun. Eddie Nestor has really grown on me. I normally hate LBC but Jenny Eclair (when she isn't touring) does a great Saturday morning show - she recently said she was thinking of buying in East Dulwich (for investment purposes) and is always talking about South East London. And she's very witty.

For something unusual but actually rather lovely - Somerfield has a wine called Tarrango by Browns Brothers - its currently on special at ?3.9 (normally 5.99) Its unique selling point? A red that you chill. Lovely!

*Bob* - we were obviously always soul mates. I love Vanessa (it is the joy of working from home). Intelligent, eloquent, compassionate - I get so cross when she gets bad press.

I can put my fist in my mouth! Tiny hands I think, rather than a big mouth (others may disagree)

BBC London here - with smatterings of Radio 2 and Radio 4. I am in search of a breakfast show - I am still feeling bereft since Danny Baker left the Breakfast Show.

Do we have to submit a design by July 16th? I work as a professional fundraiser for my sins .... (not a chugger, a development officer for a charity!) and the school angle would increase chances of success hugely. Any primary teachers out there? I am happy to approach schools if you would like. What do other people think? ps. Please don't think I am butting in here - it's just an idea, and I am aware lots of hard work has already been put into this.

I have double jointed elbows. I was also informed by a friend who met Katie and Tom's baby (as in Cruise and Holmes for you non-Heat readers that she, Sufi, looks just like me). That means I look like Tom and Katies love child... frightening.

Actually as a recent newbie (who it is true got off on the wrong foot) I think there are lots and lots of friendly forumites here... Think the bag is a great idea - thank you Monica for sorting this out - I wonder (and perhaps I am getting carried away here) but could the design on the bag come from a competition from local school kids - would be nice to create something which resonates beyond this forum...

I cried at the end of Timolean Vieta come home too - I felt absolute shock at the ending, which is why I think I had such a strong reaction. I read his new book "Gold" a couple of weeks back - it didn't quite match Timolean but did have some wonderful moments.
-
I also love To Kill a Mockingbird. And Evelyn Waugh's Brideshead Revisited which is just beautiful, evocative and heartbreaking. Julian Barnes Talking it Over and Zoe Heller's Notes on a Scandal are terrific too. And War Crimes for the Home by Liz Jensen Adn Dan Rhodes - Timolean Vieta come home- is wonderful too. I could go on... Great to hear some anti-Ian McEwan sentiment - I don't know what all the fuss is about him, and have always felt a little guilty for not liking him.
