I'm confused - if there was "imaginary line" in the pub then just out of curiousity - why didn't you move? I have had good experiences from the bar menu - decent fishcakes; decent burger ... but an absolutely rotten Sunday Roast. But for the latter I blamed myself because I ordered at 7pm - so couldn't really expect much...

Is that a post or a poem? It reminded me vaguely of some poems by Henry Normal. I think it's quite good as a poem ... can we have some more please?

Spangles30 Wrote: 'Bellenden belle' You do sound like a > nasty piece of work. Hee hee - I've always worried I'm too, erm, nice - so I am thrilled to be cast as "a nasty piece of work". I feel I suddenly have a whole new dimension to my character! And to think some might say the decision to live in the Bellenden Area might make me shallow! But thank you Sean for your kind comments ... -

I think this is becoming a really awful thread to read. But its interesting how two very controversial points have been argued on here. CWALD has argued her corner on social housing with poise and even if I disagree with some of her points I absolutely respect her eloquence and her willingness to engage us with her arguments. Spangles on the other hand has laced each posting with a tone that shows absolute contempt for many of us and she clearly has real issues with East Dulwich in general and deeply held prejudices about many who live here. Ultimately this is a community forum. Communities can comfortably hold many different beliefs and ways of life - its what makes them alive and vibrant. But there has to be a starting point of respect for everyone as individuals first. Instead Spangles I think you see everyone on this forum as a mass gathering of some concept you hate. A belief you can continue to hold as you battle against us in cyberspace. In the end a fight on a forum can get the adrenlin going and can be quite satisfying in the short term. But learning to be part of a community can be far more rewarding - a thought you might like to carry with you to Forest Hill. I think Catholics have a similar phrase - love thy neighbour? -

Well said Asset. Couldn't agree more. How a light hearted article can lead to such bile being spewed from Spangles mouth is a mystery to me. -
Le Chandelier - time out review (Lounged)
Bellenden Belle replied to Bellenden Belle's topic in The Lounge
If they do they have never taken the time to respond - there have been a few times when they could have clarified their policy. And I am absolutely sure they are aware of us with the number of keen Forumites frequenting Le Chandelier. -

That is so exciting... I am hoping it will be the perfect place to pick up Christmas pressies. What will be the opening hours? Good luck!

Thank you CitizenEd! Can I also add Fenton Walsh, a lovely clothes shop; a fantastic drycleaners; Casa - a friendly reclamation shop; and Lucius and Richards. And Ganapati just down the road. It is a small local neighbourhood - it doesn't need to compete with Lordship Lane, thank you very much. Bellenden Brasserie is failing because it's rubbish - I ate there the first week it opened and won't return - but as Montpellier and indeed The Gowlett prove places which have something to offer in the area will thrive.

Reviewed this week, The Chandelier brought home two out of six stars. The reviewer was full of praise for the tea but rather disappointed with the chewy victoria sponge, the dry eccles cake and the unpleasantly thin and buttery sandwich. I was relieved the reviewer also thought it shockingly expensive - it wasn't just me being tight (hubby says I squeak when I walk) ! But nice to see The Rosendale is still being heralded as an essential south london restaurant.

surely Nero that should be batter reports - hee hee

Haart were pretty good when I was looking - Gerwyn (doubt that's how you spell it but tht's how you pronounce it) did keep us informed. But overall our experience of estate agents in Lordship Lane was complete disinterest... because quite frankly things sell so quickly in the area you need to be very proactive - we had to pound up and down every week for about six weeks. It was hell.... but worth it. Good luck!

Lots of people have praised this Camberwell takeaway so I am really looking forward to trying it tonight. I don't have a menu (and I'm too bone idle to make my way there) so what are your recommendations? I am a particular fan of duck; soft shell crab; and interesting takes on vegetables. But if you have a favourite dish please let me know! Thanks!

Since November 2006 - before that Hackney; Chiswick; Fulham; Putney; Southgate. So I actually have done North, South, East and West.... and this place is definitely the best!

There was another thread on here about a mother getting thrown out for feeding her child food not purchased on the premises. It seems to have vanished .... am I mistaken - where is it now? -
Syringe Exchange/Methadone Services: Crystal Palace Rd
Bellenden Belle replied to BARA's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I have just looked up services already available for needle exchange in SE22 - and it is already happening at Foster and Son's chemist ; 14 Forest Hill Road; East Dulwich So it would be interesting to hear if residents in the surrounding streets have experienced any problems. I suspect they won't even be aware the chemist offers the service. I would like to know what areas/ services BARA are referring to that have been so affected by such a service - show me reports, I'm not interested in hearsay. -

New organic, fairtrade shop on Bellenden Road
Bellenden Belle replied to tommy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It was open on Sunday... I went in there and things were definitely happening. I am going to reserve judgement as it was a very quick visit but I would have loved to have seen some cheeses olives and nibbles in their cold counter, but instead they seem rather geared up towards takeaway sandwiches. A curious approach as it is predominantly a residential area and they are competing with cafes like Petitou and Lucis and Richards lunch menus. But I wish them well and I am sure I will use it for last minute veg. -
That new gym that's opening on Lordship Lane
Bellenden Belle replied to a topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Can I just say thank you to Quaywe for such an informative post. I would love to know what market research ES Physical Health have done and who they perceive as their competitors since I really can't find an example of a more expensive gym anywhere! Particularly one that is so limited - ie no pool, a very small selection of classes. I will be very interested to see how the prices come down.I reckon come January there will be a marketing campaign with lots of special offers for the new year. Or it will be dead in the water within two years. -
?3.25 for half a pint of Leffe (pints of Leffe are not served). Ouch! This has actually increased considerably since our first visit the previous week. The waitress explained this was because it was so strong and because they were "trying to get rid of certain people" (she did quickly add tht was not a reference to us!). A very bizarre explanation (perhaps the bar is battling against an unsavoury customer base) and no excuse for what does seem extortionate. Also we did feel rather pounced on at 9pm on a Saturday night - shown to our table, approached several times by the waitress enquiring if we wanted more drinks. I like the place, and the food - but please guys, chill,. And sort out your prices.

Absolutely not! What is happening to that end of Lordship Lane - such pretension, such extravagance - it makes me quite cross actually. And yes they can talk about trained physiotherapists, blah blah blah - but really, it's a gym! Just like a ?12 sandwich across the road is simply a sandwich. Madness. -
Has anyone used Foxtons introduction 0% sale fee (Lounged)
Bellenden Belle replied to rogertebbutt5k's topic in The Lounge
Mmmm Actually not so sure about ludlow being "the best".. their website is awful - really off putting and hard to negotiate (do I really have to give you all my details before I can browse?)And their customer service was awful last year. AND they send me ludicrous emails every week asking if any of my friends wants to work there...what's that all about? Back on topic - be careful Foxtons don't undervalue your house in order to flog it quick -after all they have no incentive to sell at a high price... far better for them to have a flood of sold boards dotted around the area. -
> This time they are filming shots for a new ITV > comedy "Sold" - all about Estate Agents. Perhaps > everyone on this thread can indulge themeslves > laughing at actors pretending to be Foxton like > agents. Jenny Eclair's house on Denmark Hill has also been used for this new comedy... she mentioned it on her radio show. I love looking at that house as I go pass on the bus. Oh and she keeps mentioning that her architect husband (well boyfriend of 25 years) is currently working on their investment property just off Lordship Lane. She adores East Dulwich.

Hoorah! It's great - lovely staff, good selection of wine (and beers), a menu that's unpretentious but well-executed - and very reasonably priced. My fish cakes were excellent (served on wilted spinach in a lovely sauce and a perfect poached egg on top); while the chips I stole from hubby's plate (to accompany an excellent burger) were really good. The bill came to less than fifteen pounds for the two of us. Will return ... My only fear is that it is too close to home!
