  1. Financial services are such a huge part of the economy that the government would be foolish to jeopardize that in any way. But this is why I think the EU will force their way on fishing, in return for that continued EU passport for the City. At the end of the day, money talks and the power of the City on government policy can not be underestimated.
  2. I suspect the power balance in NI is about to change, depending on what coalition manages to form itself. So no, by the time any bridge is built, we will already be wherever we are heading.

There will be many more examples of remain and trade experts being right. But if leavers were not interested in details before, why would they be now?
  4. And escaping the hard border customs checks now being announced. Hard Brexit anyone? https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/feb/10/checks-on-eu-bound-goods-inevitable-gove-tells-business-leaders?CMP=share_btn_tw
  5. He clearly has never sailed across the Irish Sea in winter. But the logic is interesting. Still figuring out the border issue I think. Also, the results in the NI elections might have a bearing on something too.
  6. Reports today that No.10 are looking into the logistics of building an actual physical bridge between Scotland and NI. What is it with Johnson and bridges?
  7. Police are the go to when someone is endangering others. Who else does anyone expect to apprehend and detain this man? Expecting paramedics to deal with someone who may already have committed assault on numerous occasions and of various kinds, is unreasonable. They have no power of arrest.
  8. To be fair, until those negotiations start in earnest, we don't know what direction they will take. No.10 want to keeps talks confidential, I suspect they will be anything but though.
  9. Yes that is true, hence the phrase Canada plus plus, the plus being services. We won't get everything negotiated by the end of the year. Pretty much everyone who understands trade deals knows that. So we probably will end up with a loose framework where some things are agreed, while negotiations continue. The question is, does that mean an extension of the transition, because until everything is agreed, we technically are in transition. Or do we take a hit to the sectors still to be negotiated while the talks continue. I think the answer to that will be decided by how much gets agreed by the end of the year.
  10. I suspected that business will flatline for a little while, until EU trade negotiations are completed. My hunch is that in order to protect the cities business, we will have to concede on things like fishing. We should also be fighting hard for car manufacturing and pharmaceuticals (our two biggest export sectors to the EU).
  11. Penguin, the only way to get someone who is a danger to the public off the street is through the Police and courts into a secure mental health unit. So calling the Police is absolutely the right thing to do. And just to add that sectioning and detention are different things. Staff at any hospital will also call Police if a patient is threatening them. Only secure units are designed to treat people detained via the MHA.
  12. If he commits assault (as he already has) and is arrested and charged, a court could detain him under the mental health act and send him to a secure unit. The Maudsley is a hospital, not a secure unit. SO I suspect if the aggressive behaviour continues, that is where he will end up.
  13. I disagree penguin. If he is displaying psychotic behaviour, a Police psychiatrist will section him. Then medical professionals will assess the risk, esp if he is not taking his medication, and go from there.
  14. FFS TheCat - Grow up. The debate was about whether the claims made in a blog posted by Uncle are true or not. It is not that hard to read the fact check and acknowledge the blog is in fact untrue. But you can't/ won't do that. Instead you think it perfectly acceptable to resort to insult instead and hijack the thread with your petulance. Just stop it. Either engage in the points being made (about myth vs reality) or don't engage at all.
  15. And here we find word gamery again instead of leave voters actually discussing any facts. It's tedious.
  16. Nope. If a leaver posted FACTS, they would be taken seriously. Uncle posted lies from a blog that deliberately made stuff up for leave voters. How about you look at both links and make an informed judgement instead of the whataboutery and assumption you have replied with? Now is the time for reality. Facts and details. Not the lies that both campaigns were fought along.
  17. Dogs that are not inoculated can get parvo virus. So I would get any combination of vomiting and diarrhea checked out by a vet.
  18. And typically, after having posted a list of lies, Uncleglen has nothing to say about the factcheck posted in reply. And he wonders why some remain voters think some leave voters are willfully ignorant! Uncle is living proof of that fact.
  19. Throwing anything is someone's face is assault and he should be arrested for that at least. Hard to know what his mental health condition is and whether or not he is taking medication, or worse still, using illegal drugs. But clearly he is making enough of a nuisance to warrant some attention from authorities.
  20. Pretty much every local council estate built in the 30's has them.
  21. The EU does not give grants to move jobs out of the UK. Here is some fact checking for you Uncle. I suggest you read it and respond. http://ilovetheeu.co.uk/trade/no-the-eu-does-not-fund-companies-to-move-jobs-out-of-the-uk/ And many of the things listed in that blog Uncle are a direct result of the policies by our OWN governments, who privatised everything (nothing to do with the EU) and under invested in our own startups (nothing to do with the EU) and moved us to a free market service sector economy in light of global competition. We invented many things, like graphene and the micro-chip. But we have always been bad at central investment in our own talents. Again, nothing to do with the EU. Moaning that companies move to where labour is cheaper is also something that won't be fixed because we have left the EU. The Tory government you all laud are for even more free market profiteering over protectionist central management of industry. So which is it Uncle? Free market or socialism? You seem confused.
  22. Three words. The Russia Report. Where is it?
  23. Battersea euthanises around a quarter of the animals it takes in, citing 'behavioural' issues. It is not the best place for a semi-feral cat to be rehomed from.
  24. Exactly that. Abbott is not HM so it is irrelevant. We should all be worried about the inadequacies of the one who is.
  25. Don't got to Battersea. Animals have a limited life there if they are not rehomed. Only Celia Hammond and the Cats Protection League never euthanize healthy animals. And I would say they are your best bet as they vet all new homes and try to match cats with the right people. A semi feral cat is never going to suit someone who wants a lot of attention from their pet. So you are looking for a specific kind of home.
