    What a con!!!

It helps me connect to my neighbours. It might not solve world problems, but it's really helped me. London can be a really lonely place, so don't dismiss something because it has no obvious value.
  2. He cannot keep the item and not give you your money back. AS suggested above - contact Trading Standards / although I'm told it's now Citizens Advice dealing with this type of issue.
  3. Maybe move it if it's too close to a radiator. Was it healthy last winter? Was it in the same spot? Is it too close to a window and might be getting cold? I have two orchids and one is happy by the window and the other isn't, so sits on the table quite happily.
  4. Did you return it after their deadline? Do you have proof of posting? What was the problem with the item? Did you tell them? Perhaps a carefully worded letter might help. I suggest you contact Trading Standards for advice and help. Statutory rights are not affected by return dates. So, if it's not fit for purpose they cannot say you didn't return it in time. The return date is if you've changed your mind. It's a cooling off period and you can return in that timeframe if you change your mind. Here's a couple of links. https://www.amazon.co.uk/forum/deals?_encoding=UTF8&cdForum=Fx1DEIHNWYF5SA9&cdThread=Tx3B6AA5Q8RHYE2 This one is more important; https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_gw_repol?nodeId=1161002 and it actually explains the confusion - they call Statutory Rights the same as Statutory Cancellation rights. Statutory Rights are a consumer protection law if goods are not fit for purpose. the 'Stat Cancellation Rights" are different - just about changing your mind. It could be they have used them interchangeably in your case. The second link has the important bit at the very bottom. Other Statutory Rights You have additional rights in relation to incorrect, damaged or defective goods. For more information about these statutory rights, please visit Adviceguide, a Citizens Advice website at: http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/. This link is provided to help our customers find out the rights they have where goods are not as described, not fit for purpose or not of satisfactory quality. If you need to contact us by post, please write to: Amazon.co.uk Customer Services, 2-4 Waverley Gate, Waterloo Place, Edinburgh EH1 3EG
  5. Do you mean December two weeks ago? I imagine they need time to compile their findings and have it authorized before it can be formalized. Maybe call the school.
  6. I wouldn't worry about it being late sending out new invites. Send them anyway! Perhaps have a quick chat with the mums in the playground and say you really hope their kids can come, it's a bit last minute, quite disorganized - sorry - lessons learned but would love it if they could etc.... Invite the parents too. Just have fun. Don't fret so much. Maybe think about booking something that is a bit more flexible if people don't do what they said.....
  7. Sidestepping the alcohol and picking up on the curries - I learnt that chillies originated in Portugal and were taken to India in the 16th Century. Where would curries be without chillies? ! ! ! !
  8. LOL - that's funny.. but it does change things. I'm not decrying the value of meeting up with friends at all just commenting on the reasons people put for not being able to not drink.
  9. If it's hard to stop drinking for a month, it sounds like it's more than just a social thing. I have friends who don't drink and never have and - perhaps surprisingly! - they have lots of friends and do lots of things and stopping in a pub just doesn't cross their normal activity. I've got used to it now and don't even thing about drinking. I'm very aware of how opposite this is - my social life revolved around pubs - but we were younger then and lived at home and had to get out - it's different when you've got your own place.
  10. So people really drink because they're bored? And because they can't think of anything else to do?
  11. https://www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/breastfeeding-support/ maybe try this? there is a phone number on the website
  12. yes but Franco Manca and the shop queues are not the same as old people waiting outside in the rain - probably waiting to get their pensions
  13. ye - no idea why foreign currency takes priority at all - doesn't make sense and I don't think it should happen.
  14. there's a tree on Dulwich Road which we would pass by every day - commonly called The Dragon Poo Tree - God only knows what it was that shat from on high but it was lethal.
  15. contact Renata and James and see what they suggest
  16. There is little in place to enforce the crime of not picking up after your dog, unfortunately. Perhaps unless you see them in the act and you say something - but even then you're relying on their level of responsibility and caring... which I would imagine is lacking in the first place.
  17. Glad all is well - thanks DF - you've gone above and beyond :-)
  18. Really - it is a charity shop and as such should try and get as much value from the donations people give as possible. Take it as a given you won't expect the same level of clarity as you would in a retail shop and try and find the amusing side. After all - a book for 25p is a bargain - as is a book for a couple of quid.
  19. I think you should increase the size of the fence to shut your neighbours out and pretend they don't exist. Any attempts on their part to threaten you or abuse you should be met firmly with the authorities. Or a visit.
  20. Rather than just how annoying it is for you, perhaps you might consider it's actually not on to leave dogs outside in the cold. If this dog is still locked out come dark, please contact the police. It's the most common form of animal abuse.
  21. I believe so - was recommended on the forum for Fireworks night
  22. You can't see them in town unless you have a ticket - the buildings are in the way (sorry, you probably know that!) We'll be local too...maybe see you there!
  23. yes Sue - spelling mistake in my latin. I did indeed mean Arbore (being tree) :-) Flavia was sitting under the tree. Her friend was playing with the wolf.
