  1. sounds like a fantastic idea! I just googled 'people who live in a motor home' and there's lots of pages http://www.caravanclub.co.uk/community/discussions/sites-touring/uk-sites-touring/Sell-the-house-and-live-in-the-vanmotorhome/rt/583173/ You won't be alone and I'm quite jealous!
  2. I thought it was bigger than co-op as it's extended out. We'll have to wait and see.
  3. thanks both :-) I don't have games so will get a Roku stick
  4. We're leaving Sky as the deals expired and it's now extortionate. Should have done so ages ago, but am there now! What do you do? I've thought about no TV at all, but it's not really practical - bf likes football, I like watching the odd film and channel flipping (when I finally sit down!) I have one smart TV and one ordinary. I was thinking of getting a NOW TV box and paying a small monthly subscription (with no contract). I also have Amazon Prime and I understand you can get a dongle that you can make a non smart TV smart so I can show Amazon Prime downloads on it, so can watch films. I'm not very clued up so would like to know if I'm on the right track, or if there is a better option I am unaware of. Thanks EDF-ers!
  5. Londoners being given priority over overseas investors is the main thing. If developers know that offplan will sell at whatever price they set (foreign investors, largely) then it will follow that they will aim for the high end market. If they are restricted to sell at to Londoner's primarily, it should mean that prices will be lower, flats of smaller size/ lower spec. It's a good thing.
  6. Trinidad - can you organize a procession for ED Folk next year? That would be fun... maybe we'd all go!
  7. Trinidad - have a great time - would love a photo of your procession! I think being involved would be far more fun than just 'going'
  8. how about replacing the fence with a holly bush? If it's your fence, you could easily take it down and have something else put up.
  9. http://www.mayorwatch.co.uk/sadiq-khan-orders-tfl-to-sell-land-to-property-developers-at-below-market-value/
  10. would love to say it felt safe enough to go, but it's just not worth the risk with kids involved.
  11. Is skip rummaging ok? and bin searching not? Generally I think they're the same, but I do object to someone entering my property in order to rummage. I had to chase off a lady who thought she could take my garden table, which was in the front garden. Telling her to clear off and out of my garden bemused her - she really didn't seem to 'get' the fact that she shouldn't be there. I had to secure it with a chain. Neighbours saw other people hovering.
  12. As she is your assistant and your work that will therefore be impacted, have a chat 'upwards' and explain that you are happy to consider the workload being distributed but are concerned that capacity will be stretched (as everyone is working very efficiently already) and tasks are likely to be re-prioritised to ensure work life balance continues to be achieved. Make clear you think a replacement would ease the burden of increased workloads and ensure same level of work can be achieved. State your concern that not all of your objectives / KPIs would be achieveable and your bonus is dependant on this. If your PA's work is given out to others, how can you control what they do and how they do it?
  13. I thought neighbours were invited to street parties? That way - everyone being welcome, there is no problem with the noise. They're a fab part of summer.
  14. you should check references of previous accommodation, references for ability to pay (check if arrears with previous landlord), take a deposit to cover any damages, undertake regular inspections Agency would really only provide the tenant (you'd want to check what references they take) and/ or be available for any maintenance, collection of rent - this depends on your agreement and what you're paying them for. I've also been stung by nasty tenants.
  15. the Constitutional Hall in ED Grove, possibly.. or Brixton Community Base, Jelf Road - 72741190
  16. It's more common thank you think. People throw away all sorts of things, worth value to someone else. Have you not noticed the people trawling through the bins at Sainsbury's?
  17. I can understand Louisa serving her hubby first. Old patriarchal rules and maybe not be the most modern spin on things. In my house, kids eat first. Guests questioning the host - out of the question.
  18. Clean and tidy today when we were there... as usual. Lifeguards were on the ball - as I've usually found. Perhaps they should have stepped up their game with the heat and possibly controlled the numbers...howver I am absolutely shocked to read that the staff did not know what to do. I kow they train, I've been there in winter and they've been training to cover all conditions. They are paid low wage... is that normal for a position of such responsibility? This will be taken seriously and I hope a fact finding to understand what happened
  19. I'm not going to join the arguement for / if the meds the doctor prescribed you are good/ bad as i have no experience of either. I would suggest to see him again and ask the questions you have asked here. Then make a decision to go ahead or ask him for an alternative. Clearly, the stresssul situations you have been in have placed long standing pressure on you and this has manifested itself physically. Stress will make you ill, particularly if you are exposed to it for a long time. The meds are a short term effort to give you relief, please look for other long term more direct ways of managing the stress (if you can reduce it) so it doesn't affect you so badly. There are different things you could explore - mindfulness meditation can be good - seeing a councellor to talk it through - focussing on your diet - focussing on exercise.... Effectively, by reminding yourself (or visulaising) that stress is a separate thing - and not part of you - and that you are actively doing something to help yourself live with it/ reduce it can be quite powerful in making yourself more resilient. Diet is interesting - different foods can have a positive effect due to teh nutrition (google 'foods to reduce stress') DEmentia is very difficult - have you found out from the Alzheimer's Society information on illness/ disease? My mum and my nan went on a course to learn about it, and how it woudl affect my nan... it's very very hard and I understand how difficult this is to go through. So, herbal remedies, massgae will help you feel better short term...longer term... google coping strategies.... but most importantly in my view - is to find someone to talk to (outside of your direct family,a s they will be feeling it too) who you can tell how you're feeling. Do you have occupational health at work? Have you thought about speaking to your manager? Can you ask you doctor if he can help find some support for you during this time? I have found that talking puts shapes to the stress and I can then manage it. Or identify it and how it affects me. Once you realise you can find a way to control the impact on you, you will feel better and stronger. Please don't take medication as a long term solution. It can be addictive and that does not solve the problem.
  20. This is not a one off. Last year my daughter struggled in the water as somepne was blocking her getting to the edge. She was with a friend who saw her and helped her. This was right under the guard's nose/ I reported it to the manager. I didn't follow up to see what she did, but had noticed the guards better monitoring since. I also hope the girl is ok.
  21. the Horniman is really expensive anyway......grrrrr
  22. they probably don't get bulk discounts. I completely agree it's wrong - they should be promoting alternatives to milk for a number of reasons. I would ask them about it directly and let them know you will forfeit them for their policy.
  23. Bowl of noodles - very versatile - can add nearly anything! chicken, tofu, mushrooms, greens - always with chilies but can add garlic, turmeric, can cook in coconut milk and curry paste, miso soup, plain.... always best when made locally somewhere HOT other than that, marmite toast...
  24. I'm dismayed at many things I do not have the financial oomph to influence.
  25. "For the rest of the EU the overall effect will be negligible".........so EU did not benefit from UK being a member?
