  1. Good grief Sean, what are you the word police? I'm with the others, there does appear to an increasing undercurrent of nastiness in the area. We live on Crystal Palace Road, and were broken into while we were upstairs asleep. They stole lap tops, bags wallets etc, thanks to friendly neighbours we got our cards back after debris was strewn across nearby gardens. That was the second time, the first time someone took an axe to our shed and stole our bikes. It happens. It happens everywhere. Hopefully by people talking about it, it increases people's vigilance.

I'm always surprised by the naivety of posts like this. Yes it goes on, and to be honest it isn't just the dregs of society dealing it or buying it. It's not just the blacks, the homeless, the jobless, the underclass, the poor, the gun brandishing rejects messing up the leafy suburbs scaring the locals, or the Peckham-ites daring to wander into ED in hope of doing some business. It's just as much the 'normal' people like you and I. The educated pulling up outside an affluent front door, because they know that's where the goodies are kept. I know because it happens round the corner from me, but we almost never wake the neighbours on the way out.

    Livid....

New Bhoy, certainly not wanting to be hugely provocative, but out of interest - why did you find them leaning on your fence so offensive? Were they damaging it, or is fence leaning reserved for family, friends, and aquaintances?
  4. Ahh ha, let the sarcy comments begin.... Perhaps if you're hanging out in the frozen meat section - maybe that's what you do bagpuss, you sound like a cold sorta person, but come on, doesn't feel like that in the big sainsbury's or even in Somerfields....so 'I think you'll find' - oh give it a rest..just put the heat on and love.
  5. Maybe it's just me, but did anyone notice how cold it is in there, absolutely baltic I tell you - for goodness sake put some damn heating on!
  6. God - after reading this thread, I am soooooooo relieved to be gay!
  7. WOW you must've been horrified!
  8. I would agree whole heartedly - but it's not the point I'm making!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The point is the level of horror/shock if it did occur - God do I have to spell this out. There's a big difference in acceptance between a straight couple showing any level of affection in a pub and that same affection from a gay couple. If we had equality - you'd see it far more frequently, cause we gays are bloody everywhere. PDS's? God that term makes me wanna heave - sounds like an STD
  9. MitchK Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Why do gays need their own pubs nowadays? Just go > to a normal pub like everyone else. what? you mean like 'normal' people? :) That's a goodun. I agree - let's attract more gays!!! It's a gay world afterall. They should turn the drum into a gay bar... I agree, I think the point is not to exclude anyone, but I think we can all be sensible and sensitive to know that if people understand that a bar is gay by reputation, not just gay friendly, then we gays will tend not to worry too much if our hand slips onto the thigh of our partner.... I mean however the hell 'gay friendly' you say 'straight' bars may be in ED, if I was to launch into a game of tonsil tennis with the guy next to me, as the lovely straight gentry would not hesitate to do, I'd probably get lynched or at best draw looks of horror or disgust. Come on people, we aren't quite there yet! I say open a gay bar, and all you straightie 180's can come and play, it'll be fun!!! We'll listen to decent music and if I get to chatting you up and you don't like it - you can f$?""% off to the bishop xx
  10. I don't know about anyone else, but when I've been away and I turn the corner into East Dulwich - I breathe a sigh of relief!!
  11. Would everyone just relax :) I don't feel picked on at all, I was finding it all very amusing, and am not even slightly slighted, but thanks to everyone for jumping to my rescue. I have a big enough gob on me to deal with any cheeky sods that come my way - but yeh it was all in good humour! You know, I've lived in ED for four years, I check the forum regularly, and post when I feel challenged to do so. So, not the ED/forum virgin you may think. The blinking orange/lemonade thread was not posted so seriously - call it a bit of social observance that's all.

Not that it's at all the point - but for the record, there is nothing wrong with my alcohol intake, I was dragged up in Glasgow so could probably drink you all under the table. I was in the EDT at 11am doing my accounts on my laptop, and using the WIFI - I can't work at home....so yeh accounts and morning and slight hangover = orange and lemonade. And, without 'meaning to be too offensive' I'm not the one with 'fairy' as my forum name. :)
  13. I'm seldom found supping sunday roast anywhere other than the Forest Hill Tavern - it's great value at something like 8 squids and is always freshly made and the gravy's always piping hot....AND there are hardly any f&*%?ing child buggies clogging up the entrance :)
  14. hello! - what about the bland expensive orange juice!! Look I'm a man about town, I drink all the time in ED and the shitty centre so it's not like I've got my head in the sand - but seriously I hadn't noticed the price hike! But then it's seldom I'm found not drinking the hard stuff....seems a reasonable excuse to carry on downing the units.
  15. Right that does it!! This lunchtime, I ordered a pint of orange juice and lemonade and was charged the new price of ?3.20!!!As I write this I'm still recovering from shock. After I did a double take insisting that the somewhat sheepish bartender repeat himself, I found to my relief and horror that indeed I am not yet hard of hearing and yes a glass of orange juice (not even real pressed, orange I hasten to add) and lemonade (not even real pressed lemonade, I further hasten to add) costs more than a pint of bitter!! Next time I work in a pub at lunchtime I shall drink the hard stuff and save my pennies. ALSO since when did a mini packet of cheddars hit 100 pences!!!?? What the hell is going on? Is this just the EDT or what? Beej
  16. I see him all the time, mainly waltzing down clapham high street - I think it's fabulous, we could do with a bit more colour in our lives, lest we slip into dull carbon copies of each other. Maybe he could give style tips to the hideous excuse for a clothes store that is 'white stuff' - could be worse, we could all dress like that!
  17. I've heard that Selfrdiges are opening a small branch where the Launderette has just closed.. how exciting?
  18. Absolutely gutted I didn't see this thread till it was a day too late. My boyfriend and I ended up at the cinema watching some tediously long film and would've so much preferred to be meeting you all. Wish there was some way emails of events could get sent to everyone's personal emails etc. Anyway sorry to have missed it, and please do count us in for the next pink drinks! Everyone come to Gay Pride in Trafalgar Square on the 30th June, my band UnkleJam will be headlining. Peace Beej (Bobby) xx
