  1. Damned if I know, any ideas? could chain ourselves naked to the drain pipe in protest, although that would probably just attract more people ;) I feel sorry for Nina next door with the whiff of cheap salami wafting through the window
  2. How embarrassing, but I knew this would happen. Just you watch it'll be chain central by next year unless we grow the balls to stop it. Cafe Nero, Marks, Subway, what next Maccy D's. Total bloody nightmare, if I wanted a bloody subway on my doorstep i'd move to lewisham.
  3. I highly recommend Todd at The Spaghetti Agency http://www.spaghettiagency.co.uk/training-and-speaking he's based near birmingham but has done one day seminars here in london - Herne Hill to be precise. Contact him or send him a tweet at and he'll get back to you. Tell him Bobby sent you. Also sign up to his blog, most of what you need to know for social media for business you'll probably be able to read from there.
  4. No, you're wrong. Nothing's sadder then standing in that queue. And I can only imagine that taking the piss out of those who do, is much more fun.

I've heard her play and it is beautiful, like cross the road and stops you in your tracks beautiful, and I'm sure she's not standing there dreaming about her gold-plated pension... heaven's above, seriously, people like @intexasatthemoment give me the creeps, it's like stepford wives up in here.
  6. Get back to your local independent you absolute backstabbers #ShopLocal my arse hahahahaha!
  7. A totally cosmetic but commercially relevant point. That Jaflong signage, seriously, what were they thinking? Being a complete snob aside, what a waste of a golden opportunity to make the business relevant and catapult it into the 21st century from the get go. With something like 76% of consumers saying they enter a business they've never visited before based simply on signage. If i'd wanted to make a proper go of it and capture passing trade, I'd have gone all hipster on their arses, inspiring an "oooooh, let's try that" instead of an "oh look another generic indian restaurant." It's not like there isn't a plethora of good examples in the area to take note of.... That aside, good luck to them

Yeah Abe, it had nothing to do with that and it didn't go out of business. Talk about how to spread gossip you have no idea about.

  10. Someone left some hardly used converse trainers by a wheelie bin in my size once, I was grateful for them and still wear them today. Why you bothered so much if you'd chuck them out? aside from the fact that granted it's socially a bit rude, but just wondering. surely better than land fill? I think you did the right thing, asked and he showed you what he took. Case closed. If he were sifting through my blue bin, as you say, I'd be more concerned.
  11. Hardly daylight robbery Louia, milk is underpriced. As dirac says, almost all inscrutable supermarkets use the price of milk as a loss leader to the detriment of Britain's farmers and small independent retailers - we should all be paying more for it!
  12. I have no idea what they're called, odd jobs man, builder or painter, but I need someone to grout some already laid patio paving slabs I have in the front and back garden - I would it myself but mine is a time poor existence, not to mention I have no idea how to do it. Can anyone help? And by anyone I mean someone halfway qualified to do so. Also some mastic and painting jobs required too. I've tried several recommended people on here like Dave Jones, but no one seems to reply to messages... grrrr PM me if you can help
  13. Trouble is I still don't care, precedent or not. I'm trying to care honest I am. But I have to agree with Cedges - move on, there has to be more important things that actually matter surely, if there isn't, how privileged are we!?

In fact, I can't actually believe this conversation is still going on and we haven't got anything better to do (myself included).... (yawn)
  15. numbers Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- Half the time you're just paying for the trendy label & the > fact it's "locally sourced". EXACTLY, and we love it! Welcome to the new world baby who gives a shit what it tastes like, that's my Christmas presents done dusted right there.
  16. Just to even it up a little, our bin guys on crystal palace Road are marvellous, I never know when it's supposed to be emptied and I never have to put it out, they slide back my courtyard gate and remove it from the bin shed, empty it and put back without me moving a finger. It's like the angels have been (if you'll pardon the pun). Possibly the crates of beer I leave them each each Christmas..... Hope you get it sorted.
  17. Tell you anything? What was it you wanted to know? I went to the open night, covered it for dulwich on view - blog is here: http://dulwichonview.org.uk/2015/09/29/new-perma-popup-restaurant-platform1-takes-centre-stage-in-east-dulwich/ It's a pop up restaurant essentially, so the chef/food/cuisine/kitchen staff etc change from time to time on rotation.
  18. I also think it's fine, plus it helps direct people too. Jeez louise, you're getting a wee bit Victor Meldrew these days ain't you mister Barber? Live a little, go have a drink.

  20. I think it's beautiful; nowt "shit-heap" about it if the mockups are anything to go by. It's sounding like a bunch of typically boring old moany fuddy duddys in here/ Live a little I say. I love a useless vanity project. It looks fun. ....Then again I'd wouldn't say no to extending the bakerloo line to Camberwell as an alternative.
  21. Yeah whatever you do, avoid Dulwich Medical Centre, I moved their from a practice in the middle of Elephant & Castle Aylesbury Estate - worst mistake I ever made. Just don't get sick and you'll fine....
  22. I remember taking this picture outside the shop one day, always made me giggle... Only in East Dulwich would a 'charity shop' be terribly sorry to only be able to accept designer labels.
  23. ....on a side note, just checked out the QuestionAir men's clothing page and nearly fell asleep. Nice to see we're still opting for bland attire in East Dulwich. Should sit quite nicely alongside the White Stuff.
  24. Exactly. I can't believe this thread is still going, however, I'll add to it's already abundant length by adding (again) that whatever the anger of a few individuals is, working for marketing week magazine I have seen so many studies that show NOT having wifi is far more financially detrimental to small businesses like cafes and coffee shops than having it ever will be. So suck it up, either ask to join a table with a spare seat or go somewhere else.
  25. Myself and my fella would be interested too! I loved how organised our local Southwark waste and recycling service centre is, surprisingly interesting place, looks like something out of star trek. > > > > Would anyone be interested if I organised a > group > > visit from East Dulwich residents? > > > I'd be interested!
