Five years ago the noise disturbance was delivery lorries and horny residents around Burrows Rd having sex too loudly. If only we had a genuinely successful, passionate and local sports team on our doorstep who don't go to bed before the watershed, then we could really complain. You buy a house close to a sports stadium, you buy the conditions attached to that. Blame your surveyor - do mot whinge to your councillor.
  2. Tickets at Selhurst Park only ?10 for adults and ?1 for children this Saturday for Palace Vs Reading; it's 'Family Day.' Only a couple of thousand left though so you'll need to be quick. You'll also need a ST holder reference to buy them over the phone - happy to provide mine by PM to anyone who wants to go along. Palace are playing some fantastic football at the mo - the entry fee alone covers the joy of seeing Wilf Zaha tears strips out of whichever poor left back he's up against.
  3. Ever since I started driving/walking along Camberwell Grove some 6 years ago, I've always noticed and admired a classic 1960s Mk 1 maroon Mini that was usually parked about 2/3 of the way down the hill on Camberwell Grove. It really was a fine example and was completely original; externally at least. I hadn't seen it in a while, and has assumed that it had been sold or worse, was subject to probate. However flicking through a classic mag this evening I spotted a picture of it- apparently it was stolen sometime over Christmas. It's a crying shame that such a wonderful little thing has been taken from it's owner. As anyone who has owned and lost a classic car will tell you, the insurance payment covers the nuts and bolts but never the sentimentality. Just thought I'd share as like me, you may have been wondering what happened to it! The article states that if anyone has any info as to its whereabouts they should contact the owner, Dr. Spoto, on 07881 622032 (as it's already in the public domain I don't think there's any harm in sharing the number).
  4. I'm sure The Ivy in Nunhead has comedy nights, though I'm not sure whether this is Friday or Saturday. (?)
  5. i disagree that these odds are out because of a lack of info. it'd be relatively easy to calculate probability of a result, based on average swing as per political polls; which in any case are sufficiently sophisticated these days as to narrow to postcodes. any aberration from this would be detected very rapidly by abnormal betting patterns, i.e. a preference of money bet on an outcome other than its ratio of probability would dictate. if the above is not the case than the bookie is lazy and deserves to be taken to the cleaners!
  6. a thoroughly decent (or for that matter crap and dingy) gig venue. it's enormously perturbing to hear friends living in gypsy hill boasting that ash are playing on their doorstep. there are no good live music venues in south london (bar perhaps the amersham arms, new cross), and i've got far too many grey hairs to drag myself up to camden these days.
  7. abybody venturing out on the drag this afternoon to watch this one? edt probably best bet, especially as it doesn't clash with anything in that other, more inferior 'premier' pish-posh league.

We won't go > anywhere else for our t-bone steaks or ham. i would second this- possibly the friendliest shopkeeper ever, to boot! living just off rye lane, i have to say that i've never actually used any of the butchers down there. the other half was put off when she saw chicken 'juices' flowing freely onto fish. i'm not entirely comfortable with their presentation; people eat with their eyes, after all. doesn't mean i never will buy something- in fact i think i'll do it this week...
  9. hmm, must pop in and see this 'new' prince albert. as for the brasserie - there is still a hint as to it's former name; you'll see a small peck ex logo on the walls. alas it always seems to be empty. it's a shame, because i think it's a great spot, and was really a forerunner in the bellenden regeneration project.
  10. i popped in with my mum a couple of weeks ago. we ordered ice cream which was very tasty, however i can also confirm the above waiting times. i think it took around 20 mins... luckily it was a hot day and we didn't mind. i'm not a veggie so doubt i'd go regardless, but i do wish them well.

  12. i've been nipping in to the montpelier, as they always seem to be showing the tennis.
  13. if you have rec'd a parking ticket in the controlled parking zone around bellenden road (like me!), i would strongly recommend that you challenge it. the cpz is legally unenforceable as the signage at various entry points is missing/incorrect. for example on the main drag into the controlled zone along peckham rye, the twits at the council have put the sign the wrong way round- stating that the zone ends, rather than begins. you don't even need to trapse about taking photos- the evidence is on google maps! legally, there have to be two signs clearly visible from 45m at all entry points and as such any tickets received for being on yellow lines can be cancelled!
  14. what a cracking idea. suspect i'll forego the running and just join in with the drinking.
  15. well i think they're aesthetically lovely and give an area a sense of place. i don't think the residents of dulwich village would tollerate their old street signs being taken. i fully agree that they represent a historical interest.

  17. i noticed a very strange bee like creature with an enormous proboscis in choumert square, that has since been identified as a hummingbird moth.
  18. i imagine you'd find them open to negotiation at the moment. was always the case when i was at ludlow that we aimed at 2.5%, but in most events settled at around 2%, though this was 3 years ago. then i worked for a bank. and yes, i am going to hell.
  19. damn shame this clashes with my work do, though i imagine that'll be done by 9pm so may well pop round later.
  20. the montpelier is actually my local, some 23 seconds from my front gate, and i agree that they serve up good food. last time i was there however my sunday roast had no gravy as they were all out! that aside, it was delicious, and for the sake of fairness, i should add that this was around 7pm in the evening. we went to a thai place (sema thai?) opposite somerfield in the end last friday. the food was good rather than great, but i thought it fitted our purpose exactly. we sat down, were served promptly and efficiently and apart from that were left to our own devices for a few hours. moreover, they deserve a worthy mention for dispensing the quite splendid victual that is beer lao.
  21. cheers guys. i did go to le chardon a few years ago when i was working on the lane- upon telling the waitress how i'd like my duck, 'chef won't like that,' was her reposte. may go for a stroll to grove lane if the other half can be convinced- it'll also give me a chance to check out that rather tantalising pub, the 'hermits cave.'
  22. hi folks, g'friend & i moved to choumert sq in late summer, but have only so far eaten out at ganapati (which is absolutely cracking btw - try the locally brewed beer, splendid) and il giardino, as we've mostly entertained at home- thrill of being in your own place etc! anywho, decided on a whim to go out tonight, mainly because i'm hugover and can't be bothered with cooking. looking for somewhere not too pricey around LL/bellenden that would be able to accommodate us just 'turning up.' i hear the palmerston does a decent meal, but will probably be rocking and rolling too much by 9pm ish? do you reckon there's a cat in hell's chance anywhere??? much ta
  23. i cannot believe anyone would be so daft. surely the chap physically painting the wall must have realised what he was doing? lunacy.
