  1. For childcare reasons I can't often leave home before 8am. I aim for the 0815 but if I miss it then the best I can hope for is the 0833 which is often late. (I know there is a scheduled train at 0827 but it is very rarely on time and the last two days has arrived well after the 0833) The 0833 this morning was crowded to the point many people could not get on the train at all - they were the lucky ones perhaps - and it does make you wonder how we collectively put up with the inverse proportion of price increases to level of service. We do love a good stiff upper lip in these parts. The forum had our friendly station manager to moan at but I think he eventually had enough or moved away (who can blame him) but is there actually any point in complaining and if yes, to whom? In happier news, thanks to the forum, I got my first monthly season ticket today. As I almost exclusively walk apart from ED to LBR the ?62 spend is much better than the usual ?130 monthly zone 1-2. Cheers.
  2. Actually my indignation was your "more important things that cats roaming" but by all means preach some more it's a free world, or would be if I wasn't enslaved in this damn mega city. You know I read a while back that a fox got into a house and attacked a baby in its cot, but hey it's just scavenging right I mean the stupid mother expecting the fox to see a nursery as a boundary, idiot. It's one of the reasons that i i happy for my dogs to let me know if something is in our backyard, fox, cat or human that is the reason I thought your view was nonsense but I respect your right to make your point be it nonsense or otherwise. Just keep the judgement of what is worthy of a post to yourself or someone is likely to tell you to get over yourself.
  3. I hate that more important things to worry about line, of course there are but it's the EDF not the world economic forum, so get over yourself. Why arent you out doing important things instead of preaching the freedom of cats to roam and kill act. If you've got a bunch of cats camping in your backyard your answer to the dog owner is to train it not to bark at the cats in their territory....your funny. If you havent had a full nights sleep for weeks because of these free spirited cats you might not be so judgemental. Oh and how does a cat bury its crap in a fully decked garden? 6. I would NOT recommend Dulwich Cars, I try to support local business but will never use this company again.
  7. Think "really good" might be pushing it, I find the meat, especially, is poor quality and overpriced. On one occasion I bought meat that went off in the fridge prior to the use-by date so my experience is polar to what you guys n gals are suggesting. I wuld rather eat my socks than buy seafood from the co-op and have not tried the chicken but perhaps it is worth considering in an emergency. The fruit and veggies not only need improvement, they actually need stocking. The local greengrocers and the meat from North Cross Road or Billy Rose are all fantastic and not really that different in price to any of the supermarkets, the co-op included. Does anyone actually choose to shop in the co-op? wonders never cease.
  8. I was walking through GG on Sunday and noticed a light brown staffie (not 100% sure on the breed) running wild with its owner yelling obscentities at the dog from a distance away...e.g. "f**king come here". I've seen this before including the dog knocking my own lightweight dog off its feet and standing over it with neck hairs raised. Fortunately I don't think the dog is that vicious but clearly the owner has zero control and if it did attack person or animal then it would take some stopping. The dog made a run towards a kid walking his small dog and then run around them, poor thing probably wanted to play but clearly the kid (& dog) were concerned. The woman finally gets the dog and then beats it on its head for a good while and then just lets it go again. The dog goes to the other side of the park near the bus stop and does a sizeable number 2. A minute or so later I stopped by the woman and asked if she realised her dog fouled the park. She says ...and i quote ..."yeah I don't f**king pick up sh*t in this f88king park do I". I had a small baby with me so decided she was beyond help and walked away. Clearly this woman should not have a dog and will continue to foul a park that responsible dog owners and children frequent. I will report this to the council but given this goes beyond fouling I also want to issue a warning to steer clear if you see a tan coloured staffie with a raving lunatic owner yelling after it. The woman was probably 5'10" with dark hair and an extremely aggressive demeanour. Really hope that the dog is somehow removed from her possession and put with a loving family as it would probably be a fabulous dog. Until then beware.
  9. I beg to differ Sue, people opposed to waitrose argued against it using the example of the impact on the feel of lordships lane etc. I was pointing out that the feel of lordship lane is impacted more from long term empty storefronts, a plethora of estate agents and an inproportionate number of indian restaurants, rather than whether we have a supermarket considered by independent reviewers such as which? to be the finest supermarket in the UK. So actually I think it has everything to do with it. That aside im happy to have an open mind and the suggestion of a PS looks a very good alternative and i would definitely do my shopping at the PS over sainsburys or the co-op.
  10. I would love a Waitrose and think the "most people are vehemently opposed" is plain wrong. The people's supermarket seems an interesting concept - although not sure about this volunteering business - and it will be interesting to have a look at what its all about on the box. People seem a bit worried about chains infiltrating the lane but since threshers went out of business we have had an empty shop in a prime spot without any other chain such as odd-bins or whatever rushing to take on the lease. I get the feeling some residents would prefer an empty store over an evil chain.
  11. Gimme, you accused "everyone" of being silly, to be honest its unlikely the forum is going to have news about the incident that is reliable and wholly factual so it might be considered silly to expect that. Surely the purpose of the forum is to "jibber jabber" and when you make comments that people might take personally surely one expects contrary responses, I thought that's what a forum was for? Also, im glad James has received some support as his comments held more value than some of you seem to think. I did not read that he blamed sainsbury's at all, simply that a very large unsupervised area close to where parties are often held needs some investigation. I don't think many of us have much experience in these matters so James well done for taking an interest, as well a polly should, in his constituency.
  12. Mr. Ben I moved out of ED but only 20 minutes walk away while my terrace house was being renovated. I have to say there was nothing wrong with it but it was not the same. 20 minutes may as well have been an hour, mainly i lost the sense of living in a little village like i get in ED. There are things I would change but we love living in ED and i wouldn't sell up for a place 20 minutes walk away, i would probably prefer to move to a completely different area of london. I think the value differential you quoted is not quite right though...i would bite anyone's hand off if they offered me 600 let alone 700k, but the point is probably valid. Even so, having experienced moving out for 5 months I know what its like and I really missed the place a lot, and would recommend against it, but that's just me.
  13. This is probably mostly of interest to the pro-waitrose amongst us but I was reading a copy of the latest Which? magazine this evening that included a customer survey of UK supermarkets. First by a country mile was Waitrose with an 85% customer score, second was M&S with 68% and stone motherless last was the Co-op. with 46% with Sainsbury's also close to the bottom. No surprises there really.
  14. I'm genuinely surprised at all the no answers on the EDF, I agree with the sentiment about maintaining the independent nature of LL but at the same time its a big old lane and surely it can't hurt to have a waitrose or M&S. The alternative for many is the co-op and its not a great alternative to say the least. Also, in my 3 years in ED I haven't seen too many new shops of any note opening up on LL other than estate agents and indian restaurants. In my humble opinion even a dreaded high street chain is preferable to a empty boarded up building. Perhaps an acid test is empty video store...if a funky little indie shop opens in its place I will join the indie forever brigade. If we end up with an estate agent/indian takeaway/nothing then i would argue we should really be grateful for a waitrose, cafe rouge, monsoon, whatever. Personally i would love a little cinema like the brixton ritzy, a dim sum restaurant, a sushi/japanese restaurant, maybe a few more mens clothing and footware options and a waitrose of course.
  15. I love curry too, just finished one at my desk actually but do we need to rival brick lane. I personally find it cringeworthy that a visitor to the area would refer to LL as the curry street, I'm afraid I didn't see it as something to be proud of. I similary find it a bit of an overkill to have more estate agents on LL. Sue I would prefer to have a variety of restaurants that reflects the diverse backgrounds of our society and not have any one food-culture dominate. If there was a post for another curry house would you say "yes please"?
  16. James, yes please to waitrose, and no objection to M&S. I too like the fact we have some independant stores in ED and do some shopping locally when I can, but walking down LL from goose green you would think all people did all day was trawl estate agents and eat curry. I love a good curry but do new premises need a licence, and if so, surely there must be a way to limit the curry houses to say a neat dozen? Our little lane is becoming a bit of a joke really...I got asked by someone in a car nearby to direct them too the curry street. We are alsov blighted by the existence of the co-op which has to be one of the worst run, overpriced (for the quality) and poorly stocked stores I have had the displeasure of shopping in. It would be very good to have an alternative that is open a little later than the indie's. Sadly I use it quite often as I work late-ish hours and don't have a car, and generally find myself wishing the co-op was a waitrose which in MY OPINION is a fantastic supermarket. If there was waitrose within half a mile of the co-op i would dance a jig and never darken the doorway of that place ever again. Also, for the indie shop lovers, i would still buy the same amount of goods from independant stores, the only shop to suffer from a ED Waitrose for my ? would be the co-op and the mega-sainsburys.
  17. We used UK Bi Fold after much research. Our architect and builder recommended them and even though they are not the cheapest we are really pleased with their product. Really easy to open, smooth and guaranteed for 10 years with a yearl service thrown in. We went for black frame and it looks very amazing in our white kitchen.
  18. do any man u fans come from manchester? then again who cares. i don't think ED is huge on football but much like anywhere you will find plenty of plastic manure and chelsea glory hunters. 19. dont worry about easter he or she obviously hate it enough to spend their saturday morning posting on the forum or just gets some perverse pleasure from being a wum. i came and checked on ED with my girlfriend very reluctantly as i had a very bad mental image of SE London and had lived in Fulham and Battersea for many years. I came here for a look as a friend lived in the area and loved the place from day 1. We decided to rent here on the spot and when our lease ran out we bought a house. 2 years later and we still love the place and just hope that the growing affluence of the area doesn't attract too much crime but as you said that's part of a big city. This place feels a lot safer than Fulham or Battersea ever did and most places ive been too in north london so I think its a gem. If the overground/underground links from forest hill to clapham as planned in 2012 this place will be even better. Welcome to East Dulwich, you seem like good people so maybe ED found you!

  21. Well said ClareC, spot on. Waynetta i think you've taken on a bit too much sun today, either that or your just not a very nice person. Maybe I'm being harsh but I don't have kids and i love my dogs so if someone was being cruel to my animals I pray that kamila and not you are passing by. Thought no more of it until i went to pay for my lunch. I went back to the bank expecting nothing at all but they took my details and the amount as they tally the amounts at the end of the day. Fortunately the money was "sucked back in" and the tally showed they were over by the same amount that I "withdrew" so it was credited, so happy to say the big evil bank was actually helpful and interested.
