Well he's left his number and email address there - let us know how you get on with those!

Absolutely. You can never really know the true value of something until you see the alternative, and I consider myself something of an aficionado of global telly. The BBC is an extraordinary achievement in terms of programming, costs less than a third of Sky, who make none. The only organisation globally that come close to the BBC in terms of quality is HBO, but you'd have to say they're a one-trick pony.

:)) No deal with Google. It's just that no-one else discusses anything to do with ED anywhere else on the web.

I don't mind creating the survey - it'd only take me ten minutes and it would just need to go on a sticky thread for a month or so. It can be anonymous and only allow one entry per computer. You'd need an incentive usually - say dinner for two at a local restaurant? If admin wants to do it and someone like the Mag would put up a steak dinner, then just give me the nod.

For sure, I hear pensioners and mothers with kids want to use their racers to get around, but are forced to take the bus by the lack of cycle lanes ;-) Alternatively let's limit deliveries to 6am-8am and 7pm-9pm, extend the congestion charge south of the river, double the tax on fuel (to closer reflect the true cost of producing and clearing up after fossil fuels), and have both bus and cycle lanes....

thebeard, there, missing the irony, in that the post most resembling his embittered accusation was his own! Methinks the lady doth protest too much!

According to Google Earth it's 0.78 miles long; 1,256 metres.

Anyone else been overcharged in Somerfield?
Huguenot replied to Sue's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It does seem, assuming everyone to be honest and these tales to be accurate, as if there is a culture of theft endemic within Somerfield's staff. These issues sit alongside the card-cloning scam already admitted to by the management. More importantly it seems to be on a huge scale. The first step should be that every time this happens the management of the store must be told. I'd probably precede the conversation with the line..."It's clearly an accident, however it may highlight a need for additional training...". I think they'll get the message, and it'll also identify if it's just one thieving little shitbag who's doing the damage. There really needs to be some public statement assuring the public of the steps being taken to stem this noisome tide. -
Well we've got mockney's fabulous wife visiting. So that'll be four days completely smashed talking utter bollocks again! BBQ this afternoon, but it's monsoon season, and as those who watched the Malaysian GP will know, when the rain comes down, it really comes down!

I think you'll find that cock robin was the victim, not the perpetrator of this vicious crime. It's not 'Aye, said the sparrow', it's 'I, said the sparrow' as he 'fessed up. I understand that it was an allegorical rhyme, and that in fact it referred to maybe the (legendary) Robin Hood, or Robert Walpole, ex-PM, or a variety of other public figures. So I guess cock referred not to his penis, or his gender, but to his leadership qualities. Reading it again now, there's a suggestion that the crowd who are so dedicated to glorifying his death were also complicit in his murder. The sparrow isn't chastised, and certainly some of the gang were present at his demise. Perhaps there's a connection with the Jade Goody thread?

The mind boggles that AFN believes that s/he has built her own pedestal sufficiently high to have a valid opinion on the 'quality' of public figures. I mean, only teasing, but sometimes I wonder if AFN's idea of a cultural tour de force is standing on street corners throwing stones at buses? Is someone suggesting that Ali had wisdom? Wishful thinking I suspect.

I had the misfortune of working with Jeremy Clarkson, although thankfully our paths didn't cross daily. He was a thoroughly unpleasant, selfish, small minded primadonna. I couldn't give him a good twatting, much as he deserves it, because I would feel soiled as a result.

Hmmph. Okay then. :-S

Piaf is a chain no? I don't see how letting firms in that provide reasonable food at reasonable prices is failing the community? I would have thought failing the community involved letting retail outlets go derelict through snobbery, or allowing all night raves to go ahead?

'The address is SE15' Address for a park? It's an area, not a fixed point. Do we still give kids lollipops for being ridiculous? Here AFN, pat pat, if you think you're clever, well then you really really are. Here's the whole map. The red line is the dividing point. The discussion was about Colyton Road, which is in SE22, and overlooks SE22. If you'd like to have a discussion about Strakers Road, the please do. I imagine you'd only have it on this thread because winning an argument with ridiculous nonsense is more important to you than 'fessing up. I think that's a sign of weakness, as is the rest of the crap about people stealing from SE15 to give to SE22. ;-)

As with Carnelli I think senior members of the government are underpaid. On the expense malarkey, it seems pretty clear to me that the second home allowance is to fund a London presence that's necessary to represent your constituency at votes/negotiations. In that sense the constituency house should always be the primary home, and the London the secondary. The expenses should only be applied to the secondary in that they allow the MP to reside in a manner befitting their station whilst away from home. This doesn't include the purchase of furniture by the MP: although furniture may be purchased if it represents better value than rental it would remain the property of the exchequer. Video rental whether pornographic or otherwise could be considered an ordinary cost of living unaffacted by the MP's representational role and would not be expensed, neither would food outside of their official capacity. No expenses should be paid on the primary home, these should be paid by the MP as an ordinary cost of living. I see no reason why government wouldn't fund constituency offices, nor why the government wouldn't fund expenses incurred in MPs going about their duties. I see no reason why members of the family shouldn't be employed in the MP's team. It's the MP's responsibility to ensure they're doing a sufficiently good job to get him/her re-elected. I don't think it's plausible to expect people who take such senior roles in our government organisation to take bus or train - there are significant security issues. It wouldn't be expected of mid-ranking business types either, simply on the basis that it limits their ability to do their job. I don't understand why this couldn't be made clear, and legislate accordingly?

new video footage shows police assaulting Tomlinson from behind
Huguenot replied to louisiana's topic in The Lounge
It doesn't seem to be consistent with a heart attack. He was pushed from behind when his hands were in his pockets, and didn't seem to get them out in time to cushion the fall properly. He seemed to take a crack on the face/head as he rolled forward. The medical student who first approached him said that he wasn't in pain, and he spoke for a few minutes before stopping responding. It's more consistent with an internal head injury. I'm not one to criticise police in general, as they're put under enormous pressure in violent and intimidating situations. However, this seems to be the action of a rogue lunatic who even had the temerity to adjust his balaclava after the event to ensure he couldn't be identified. I trust that after the heat of the moment this lunatic's colleagues will recognise that it's in the best interests of their profession to weed out those who bring it into disrepute. This isn't a 'no grassing' thing. -
Well I'm not sure that groceries are all life has to offer... ... and I wouldn't want my life to become a one-dimensional cabbage related universe. In an appropriate and free-trade environment I'd expect us to capitalise on our strengths, and if that's chintz, then chintz it is. I'm sure we'd be able to buy more cabbage with our knick knack stranglehold than Quids would ever drag out of his sorry allotment ;-)

It's just protectionism under another name isn't it? If all ED depended on the local grocers for grub I reckon you'd be dead in three days. I'd have no-one to harass.

Indeed, and I apologise for the oversight. As mentioned I looked it up, and was parlously misinformed on the Haddock subject. It seems Haddock are of the Melanogrammus genus, but as Snorks observes, they are with Gadidae. I shall explore this conflicting information further. Moire to the point.... I just watched Soylent Green! What a frickin' coincidence. Turner Classic Movies, today of all days!

Baltimore has never, and will never be a bumble bee hot spot. For bee enthusiasts, I give you the Bumblebee Conservation Trust The also have a sanctuary. It's highly recommended that if you come across a drunk Apidae Bombus, the you port it by bus, train and bicycle to Kinross and give the little fecker a new lease of life.

Quite right louisiana, and there was me thinking the the humble bumble bee truly had varied political affiliations. ;-)

Quite right, for ontopication purposes, I was merely hoping that the best fish and chip shop may include those that don't sell cod, or more to the point, sell the best alternatives! Respec' to Sea Cow on that subject.
