  1. This is what my mother-in-law thought (breastfeeding reduces fertility) but two months after having my husband she fell pregnant with his brother (my brother-in-law)! For two months of the year they are both the same age and my mum-in-law said it was like having twins!
  2. As Belle mentioned, St Faith's does have it's Xmas party tomorrow. The toddler group runs every Monday and is ?2 per family, which includes tea/coffee, juice, snacks. Because it only uses half the hall (the other half is used by a kindergarden) there's only so many extra children it can take, due to health and safety reasons. Tomorrow is the last meeting - re-opens 10th January 2011!
  3. All I can say is Nick Clegg better ditch his bicycle and get a Camilla and Charles style limo!
  4. The Charter closed again tomorrow!
  5. Sorry just read again and realised your daughter at 6 months shouldn't be having cows milk yet anyway! Yoghurts and cheese are ok though.
  6. I would agree with EDmummy and try to give lots of healthy high fat foods (including full fat milk and yoghurts). Your baby will only eat what she needs but I would give it another month to see how she goes.
  7. I used to use an old toothbrush and washing up liquid.
  8. I remember trying to spoonfeed my son (now 18) in King's. He was born 4 weeks early and weighed 61bs 1oz but was very tiny and wouldn't latch on and was also in an incubator for 3 days for jaundice. I think someone was there advising this but I just found it very difficult and most of the milk just dribbled away! I ended up bottlefeeding as he wasn't getting enough milk (and I had mastitis) and I was getting uptight about it all (as you do).
  9. It does happen - especially if the childminder has her own children under 5.
  10. Same as pommie - palmers cocoa butter - not one strechmark but I think it is down to luck and your genes!
  11. I notice this is information dated March 2009 - this all happened to me nearly 12 years ago now so advice was probably different! I was very depressed about this at the time but now, 12 years later, things change. Oh well, my 4 week premature boy was 18 couple of weeks ago and is now 6ft 2inches and will be going uni next year. My two girls 14 and nearly 12 also doing well. All have never had any ill effects (allergies, illnesses) so I've been very lucky!
  12. Fuschia - I was told I couldn't breastfeed while on warfarin - I had been to some breastfeeding workshops as well before the birth because I was determined this time to breastfeed. I didn't with my older two (one was premature and wasn't latching on and with my second I had mastitis and gave up). Maybe it depends on the warfarin dosage but that's prob why you were told to watch baby for bruises. Warfarin can cause internal bleeding if you have a knock or bump to the body.
  13. I had a blood clot on the lung two days after having my third child (she's now nearly 12). King's discharged me the day after I had her. On the ward I had told them about a nagging pain in my groin, which they dismissed as afterpains and gave me paraceatamol. Was told afterwards this was probably the clot working its way up! I suppose I was a low risk to them, three normal births, no family factors, not overweight, no illnesses. I was up and about as soon as baby was born and home to my other two young ones so I wasn't immobile or anything. Anyway, I had the same symptoms as Vickster, shortness of breath, which ended up as terrible pain which I couldn't control and then (sorry to sound horrible) but coughing up some blood. I ended up in hospital on a heparin drip for the next 8 days and prescribed warfarin for the next 6 months. Baby obviously couldn't come with me to hospital and it was a real wrench not having her with me. I was contacted by someone from the Lifeblood charity (which raises awareness about clotting) and I was interviewed on radio and attended some of their functions. They are still trying to raise awareness as a lot of people still associate clots with flying but it's very common after a lot of operations and obviously during and after pregnancy. Glad you're on the mend Vickster.
  14. I'm sure the Dulwich Village school operates a breakfast club from around 8am and then Dulwich Hamlet school operate an after school club now which goes on until 5.45pm - not sure how you would get child over to Dulwich Hamlet though! Maybe this might be an option?
  15. I can recommend The Charter College. My son has just passed his AS levels there and has signed up for another year -(Year 13) I would say that he has enjoyed his time there during the past year (he has attended The Charter since Year 7 so probably helps) and the school have encouraged him all the way. The College have given my son a mentor, who he meets with regularly, and probably talks about stuff I don't understand - like applying to university and grants etc. During the past couple of months he has also completed the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award which The Charter and other colleges were at. The Charter College also found a work experience placement for my son at one of the top insurance companies. He worked there for 4 weeks during the 6 weeks holiday and was paid too! He met lots of different people and really enjoyed it.
  16. JAGS results were in the South London Press yesterday.
  17. Like all things it will pass - just wait until their teens!
  18. My 2nd and 3rd babies were an hour and a half from first contraction to birth - first baby waters broke three in the morning and he was born at 10.03 (seven hours later).
  19. I feel the same womanofdulwich everytime my nearly 18 year old goes out - and that's mainly during the daytime. He's just had his bike nicked from our side shed (Sunday night) so I do feel safer now he might have to bus it anywhere he goes (in some ways).
  20. Just to say my youngest is in Year 6 at Dulwich Hamlet. I applied for a place for her during her time at another state school (which my older two also went to from Nursery until Year 6) and which I was happy with at the time. We applied in the middle of Year 4. I didn't think she would get in and we went to number 15 on a list at the time of application. A couple of weeks later were told we were number one on list as we were "12 minutes walking distance". Daughter then got a place a month or so later when somebody moved away. Also, I've lived within 15-20 minute walk of the Hamlet all my life (and my husband), so not everyone has to move into a catchment area - we're already in it! I don't feel self-satisfied with my situation - it's just something that's happened. Also, my husband went to The Charter when it was the old William Penn boys school. Not many people were moving into the area then , believe me, and we have been lucky enough to get places for our 3 children there and we have remained in the area.
  21. OMG Fiona are you for real? Young children with all that stress? As for having Hamlet as a "back-up" my daughter has done really well there after starting in the middle of Year 4 and now is a high achiever for the school. Even so, she will be going to The Charter School in September where her older brother and sister are. They have achieved and enjoyed their time there and my son is now in Edinburgh with The Charter, where they are experiencing university life.
  22. I hope they don't cut back the trees and bushes just yet like Southwark Council did this time last year in my local park. Now is the time for baby birds and mummy birds having their nests taken away isn't very good. Even if you can't see them they're there. I ended up with lots of baby birds on my patio last year because Southwark Council hacked away!
  23. Small, much used toy rabbit with gap label found in Sainsburys today. Gave to customer services.
  24. Up until 6 months ago I had two cats, now have three! Can honestly say they have never been a prob. Mine stay well clear of any small beings, sleep all day in their designated area and suddenly appear at 6pm when my mindees have gone!
