You would have to be well pished to do all this for Sainsbury?s vouchers. -
After my bee?s swarmed I checked the hive and found four queen cells and destroyed three of them. There were lots of sealed and unsealed brood. I decided not to check them for a couple of weeks and did so last week. I found mostly empty cells but about ten thousand bees. I had one frame of unsealed brood and saw the new queen. All this is good news and next week I will treat them for the parasitic mite veroa. I may rob then of on frame of honey, it would be nice to have some at last. But it does feel like robbery.

How do you feel about stoning people to death for alleged adultery? I detest thieves but I would include bankers who caused the crisis and still rob us with their obscene bonuses and MP?s with their expenses. Before you slate people on benefits maybe you should try it, it?s bloody tough. My sympathy to the OP. See this; http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?27,932073

Woodrot, do you prefer Guinness or are you a bitter woman?

Well I own two. Thinking about people in lots of parts of the world who don?t have access to the internet. And you can get "wind up" short wave radios. Short wave will always be with us, plus I know the engineers who lost their jobs when BBC sw closed. The 648 KHz service was excellent, and I am not a Luddite, bit of a dinosaur perhaps. Glad you liked the pictures.

uncleglen Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I'm not surprised- all that equipment probably > fits into a metre cube these days! Sure but that?s not the point. George Orwell broadcast from here during the war as did General de Gaul to the free French. Its history all but gone. They have stopped all their shortwave broadcasting relying on the internet and local FM transmitters. There are several single points of failure, no to mention Governments who can turn off the internet when they wish. To receive shortwave you just need a radio. Some of the mixing desks were hand built by BBC engineers, the one in picture 4121 was but they made it to short to get your knees underneath. I just think it?s a bit sad really.

I hate to say this but the Clockhouse is awful. The management have nothing but contempt for the punters. That?s why the toilets stink and they would not get the door fixed to give at least a small break from the stench. It used to have beautiful flower displays out at the front and back but that?s too much trouble. Shame, it was a great pub.

ilondoner the strange open space in front of the library was put in place to help regenerate the area by making it more open and therefore accessable. They have recently done the same thing to the elephant and castle which after the regeneration seems like a nicer place to be in than previously. They dont have to use it but Its good that its there.

It went off in Oakhurst last night, faulty amplifier in the street I think.

Someone asked why they leave: They swarmed because there were too many in the hive. The old queen goes away with about half the hive, they swarm mostly to a tree then scout bees go out and look for a new home. Meantime in the hive the worker bees will have fed some ?royal jelly? to some of the grubs and they turn into queens. If more than one queen is born they meet and fight to the death. The remaining virgin queen then mates with three to five drones (stingless males) and they then die. In September with the onset of winter any remaining drones are killed off, their wing muscles get bitten and they get kicked out of the hive. I just hope that I haven?t had another swarm, will check at the weekend.
-
Well catching the swarm didn?t work, I made the mistake of feeding them and they boggered off. My son saw lots of drone activity so hopefully I now have an impregnated queen and should be seeing new brood next week.
