Dear book group, Thanks to everyone who came to a superb meeting last Wednesday. Rob Shearman was great fun, informative and entertaining. It was the funniest meeting we have had. Our next meeting is 19th October in the Clockhouse again in the snug area. Can you let me know if you prefer the snug and wish to make it permanent? Our next book is The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/26/books/review/the-invention-of-wings-by-sue-monk-kidd.html?_r=0 Our November meeting is on the 23rd November again in the Clockhouse. Our book is All The Birds, Singing by Evie Wyld, a local author who will be joining us for that meeting but yet to confirm. https://www.theguardian.com/books/2013/jun/30/evie-wyld-birds-singing-review All the best, Chick -

Dear book group, Good news, Rob Shearman will be coming to our meeting next Wednesday so do please come along. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Shearman#Fiction_books I suggest we discuss Beloved first then talk to Rob about his book of short stories, writing in general and Dr Who, Rob did some script writing for Dr Who. So it should be an interesting meeting. I am struggling with Beloved but intend to finish. Till Wednesday, -

Dear book group, Eyvie Wyld, a local author was on radio four's book club. We read her book: "After the Fire, a Still Small Voice." some time ago and Eyvie came to our meeting even though she wasn't feeling too good. Here is a link to the pod cast: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b07mw4f5 Also we have the Blake room in the Clockhouse booked for 24th August. Some time in the near future we can look at changing to the snug or at least trying it and see how we feel about moving. Do listen to the podcast if you can it's very interesting. Rebecca Carlton has a blog which may be of interest, only a few of you will have met as she has only recently been to a meeting: http://ramblingrebecca.com/ Till the 24th. -

Minnie, the crazy cat woman from the Gardens, has sadly died. From what I remember she spent a lot of the last twenty years feeding the local cats. I used to pass her flat on the way to the Clockhouse and see her in her kitchen boiling up mince to make her own version of ?Kitty Kat? which she would put into aluminium foil containers and deliver to local cats. She did this until her arthritis got too bad, when this happened she left a note for our cat and four cans of cat food. A very sweet excentric old lady. Her funeral is on 2nd June at Honour Oak crematorium.
