  1. There was a very good demonstration yesterday, peaceful and angry at the same time. https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=364462089050539&set=pcb.364462485717166

  4. I asked the manager of the Clockhouse and he replied "travelers funeral".
  5. Our next book is: 10 minutes 38 seconds in this strange world, by Elif Shafak. It's about a sex worker in Instanbul dying in a rubbish bin. Sounds morbid but she thinks back on her life and it's really good: https://www.theguardian.com/books/2019/jun/12/10-minutes-38-seconds-in-this-strange-world-by-elif-shafak-review Sorry about the change, Lisa we can do A Quantum Life when it comes out in paper back Chick
  6. Dear book group, Thanks to everyone who took part in another very good meeting. Thanks also for those of you who emailed to say you couldn?t attend. Our next meeting is 25th May at 7.00pm on zoom Our next book is A Quantum Life by Hakeem Oluseyi https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/55411736-a-quantum-life It promises to be interesting and not daunting. Our next film is Citizen Kane on the 6th May in the Blake Room at the Clockhouse. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizen_Kane I?ll probably have a small BBQ in June if my bees behave.
  7. As I said earlier I was told by a pub manager it was because of "gypsy funeral". 8. A pub manager told me it was because of a travelers funeral. Anti traveler bigotry-the last socially acceptable racism. Had it been a black or Asian or LGBT funeral that would have broken race relation law/anti discrimination law. 9. I was told by a pub manager the pubs were all closed because a traveller's funeral was taking place. Anti traveller bigotry-the last socially acceptable racism.
  10. I won?t be drawn into a ?whataboutism? argument. If you want to debate the rights and wrongs of Hamas then start your on thread. I hardly think the Guardian article could be described as propaganda.
  11. Phone the police and keep phoning them until they do something. You shouldn't have to put up with this crap. Or if you can find out who their employer is complain to them very loudly, they wont want the bad publicity. Please keep on at the police that's what they are there for. And create hell with the council.
  12. Our next film is Citizen Kane on Friday 6th May at 8.00pm in the Blake Room of the Clockhouse. All welcome. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizen_Kane

  14. As I have said before, to other poster's, if you want to debate about Hamas you can start another thread.

And no, that doesn't mean > every action taken by Israel/the Israeli > Government is correct. Any death is tragic. Israeli deaths are widely reported in mainstream media and world wide. Atrocities against Palestinians are mostly ignored or hardly reported and are far more frequent. Human Rights Watch, B?Tselem and Amnesty International have declared Israel an apartheid state. https://www.btselem.org/

But any lasting effect - NO. It would have been even more tragic if those events had gone on with no demonstrations.
  17. We are all upset about Ukraine so why not be upset about Gaza and Palestine? https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/apr/01/palestinian-baby-dies-after-treatment-delayed-by-israeli-blockade-of-gaza?fbclid=IwAR2flbP6zSSuH_HI_uhg2AlBgp_l5HJ_sHpmOsTwjd9RZwf53BDm5FjuvJM
