First it was to catch Bin Laden, then to topple the Taliban so girls could go to school, can?t remember the third, now it?s to bomb them into democracy. In the meantime there is nice new gas pipeline in place that the US gas companies wanted from 1995(?) but the Taliban wanted too much money for.
  2. Happy Birthday Anna. Ian what are your thoughts on the CD?(Shooglenifty)

    Tube rage

Dear Sophie, Lots of people using the tube are tourists and may not have a clue about tube etiquette or even the obvious by-laws. If you see someone smoking they either don?t know the rules (being a tourist) or they are mad. It?s also a very dangerous place. The power rails have 640V DC and the running rails have 130V AC either of which could kill. How would you feel if you pushed someone and they fell down the gap between the train and the platform and either got electrocuted or had a limb cut off? Oops spoofed again.

    Bee buddy

Have a look at this site: http://www.lbka.org.uk/ Even though I have had a successful summer and my colony is doing well I may still do a course. It takes about an hour per week and there is a lot to it, you can?t just leave them so I was very lucky having someone to mentor me. If you and Ian get a hive I will be happy to mentor you as best I can. Chick.

  6. Missed the swans but did the windmills.
  7. I stopped being there when it was about five minutes before closing time because Miles would stack chairs on tables next to you which really was saying foxtrot oscar. Toby went travelling and I thought turned into a pleasant young man. Frances couldn?t stand me until she discovered my wife had a posh accent. Peter hated the Irish festival but it was a real dilemma when his pub was full of pished paddy?s (who he hated because they were Irish) who were spending lots of money. I loved asking him if he was having a nice day. All the staff now are gems including Laurence. Happy days. Sean- went to Brugge in September, brilliant place.
  8. Anyone see Louise Murray on the news last night? (and EDF)
  9. Greetings and welcome to ED. My children have been to Akes in New Cross which I found good academically but not so hot on pastoral care, Charter which I have mixed feelings about but one School I would definitely recommend is St. Saviours at the bricklayer?s arms, near the Elephant & Castle. I am not going to openly criticise schools on this medium but if you PM me with an email address I will give you a more in-depth opinion. PS what part of the states are you in and why are you moving to England, just being nosey!
  10. It was years ago before the road was narrowed, there was plenty of room, just an aggressive bus driver.
  11. I parked outside the Clockhouse on Barry Rd when a bus pulled up beside me. The driver opened his doors and started shouting and swearing at me because he didn?t like where I had parked. I looked at him and said ?what?s your problem; you could get a bus through there.? He closed the doors and drove away. Only time I have had a snappy comeback at the right time instead of the next day.

  13. Asylum seekers make up just 0.3% of the UK population.

This is just rubbish. It was your girlfriend Thatcher who wrecked social housing in the eighties, the new Tories have done nothing to improve things.
  15. Funny how some folks love animals and hate people. Complain like mad.
  16. Smacking gave you respect for policemen? How about a severe beating like those given by the TSG at the G20 protest, would your respect grow? And why not in anger?
  17. Buy your self an audio oscillator, a twenty watt amplifier and a pair of high frequency tweeters. Set the oscillator to 22khz and feed this to the input of the amplifier. Fit the tweeters in your garden and run cables back to your amplifier and connect up. Run the amp at full power, you won?t be able to hear it but the foxes will, as will cats and dogs all of which should stay away from your garden. You can get this lot at Maplins in Forest Hill. Or you can buy dedicated ultrasound generators.
  18. How do you know it was "a middle class family"?

    Iran

Some news from Iran, not much and not edited. Greetings from rather revolutionary Iran Charles! Hope you are well and enjoying the summer. Im working on my final film in Iran at the moment; criss crossing between a historical time in Iran (which is the first uprise like this, after the revolution), news, mouth to mouth, my family and my rather naive subject (tea and coffee)... The interenet, satelite and mobile phones are hardly working here. Today all foreign journalists were sent home. Yesterday 24 students in three different cities were attacked in their dorms and shot to death. I saw a 8 year old beaten down. Anybody on the way is handled, the riot police have the right to kill! The situation is quite inspiring still; as since the results of the elections on Saturday, people have been demonstrating non stop. Monday at least 3 million people walked through Tehran peacefully, they were meant to retry the demonstration yesterday at the Vali-Asr square at 5pm. As soon as the Ahmadinejd troops found out about the plan, announced that their supporters are expected to be at the same square at 4pm!!! Im not sure how the collision ended, but know that the whole mass gathered were portrayed as the supporters of Ahmadinejad..... You might have got the same impression in media in the UK...The slogans carry from home to home through out the nigh... People carry on doing all they can, toghether, even if it is repeating and passing on slogans, shouting from their roofs etc... ... Well, I will tell you all about it later. Take care and thank you for remembering me!
  20. Hanging is too good for her.
  21. I think the low turnout on the 20th anniversary of the massacre in Tiananmen Square is disgraceful.
  22. A zebra crossing would be fine and not hold up the traffic.
  23. All PCSO?s do is hassle children, homeless people and beggars. I have seen them telling a nine year child to cycle on the road or face a twenty pound fine. They didn?t know that children under 16 are allowed to cycle on the pavement. When I challenged them they said ?they often cycle up to people and steal their mobile phones and we have to nip it in the bud?. I pointed out that if they suspected this child of being a phone thief they should do something about it. They replied they didn?t, so it was a stupid argument. Two of them in Manchester last year watched someone drown because of ?health and safety?. They are a waste of space and money.
