Until a few years ago there were large public ones on Peckham rye common in the old car park;they were removed well before the development of the new playground. There are less street bins as well. I would think it's to cut costs by having less bin locations to collect from.

GALA Festival 2024 Stakeholder Debrief
sunbob replied to fishboy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I live approx 40 yards from the main stage, sent in an objection, have attended previous meetings and still not included in this or various other ones that people post about on here. -
Thanks all. Is the bike parking on the school site for anyone or is it inside the school grounds?
-
Does anyone know if there's any public bike parking on or near Townley Road please? Thanks.

SE22 is mentioned in the last paragraph of this article: https://www.theguardian.com/politics/article/2024/jul/01/thousands-unable-vote-delays-postal-ballots-uk-general-election

This is an exciting new development! I really enjoyed reading your article and hadn't realised you have an exhibition coming up as well! I've never heard of a Roman fort up there, interesting! I don't think it's within the area you're investigating, but yesterday I noticed 2-3 ancient (possibly 'boundary') oaks at the bottom of One Tree Hill woods (on the informal path parallel with Brenchley Gardens). Thank you for all your work on the local area. The survival of plants over time is very interesting. I'm fascinated by the patches of what used to be grass, which (since taking the pummelling of being walked and jogged on so much during lockdown) are now inhabited by thick little weeds.

I just saw a pair of spotted woodpeckers following eachother around in the trees in front of Harris Boys!
-
Also those of us who are currently represented by Harriet Harman (who is standing down of course) will not be able to vote for her successor (Miatta Fahnbulleh) as the change of boundaries also puts us in with Reeves, rather than Peckham. I think this is a rather clever way for the conservatives to have taken the wind out of the sales of the end of one great career and its baton passing. (Hope that makes sense).
-
They are also covering/filling in the little stream bed and puddle (opposite Harris Boys) with rubble and wood chip. I know it's strictly speaking flooding, but by now quite an eco system had built up there.

I remember some old threads about this and have just checked. Use the search function, type in half Houses and there are 3 old threads. 2 of them have specific titles, freehold and water supply.

They're still thriving today and a bit bigger too 😀

is that the one on Lordship Lane next to the charity shop? I noticed it was closed the other day at an unusual time.

There are, but you can pay for those 2 hours by phone. If you park before 12 and not sure how long you'll be, take a note of the location and phone number then ring if you end up needing to.

NYE - best park for fireworks etc

We've been taking ours there since they were little and it is nice, although watch out for slippery mud underfoot! -
I once saw someone going into the British Legion on Barry Road with a snooker cue.
-
I was worried about possible financial problems for them too. It really is left oddly in the middle of work, especially with the new tiles in the grocery section. You have to go uphill to go onto them! They must be a lot more expensive than just the lino from before and they have a lot more potential for trips and falls and will have to be regularly maintained to prevent that.

Apologies if this is about something else, I didn't know about this thread or the CPZ (even though it turns out I live in the Dulwich Hill area). On Thursday a poster called MrsZ made a new thread called 'No Southwark wide CPZ after all' where they shared an email saying that Dulwich Hill isn't going to have a CPZ at the moment and that councillors apologize for getting it wrong. Apologies also if I've summarised that incorrectly, I can't flick between this and that thread to check. Anyway the thread is on this 'Roads and transport ' page to look at.

I live in that zone (just checked Southwark's map) but didn't get a consultation or the letter you've posted today! I wonder how they ensure that all addresses are covered and what's gone wrong?

In Sainsbury's British Legion usually have a table at the front of the shop. I haven't been there recently so don't know if they're doing it this year. I imagine the BL at 97 Barry Road sells them. According to Google maps it's open every afternoon and evening. If you're going into town, on Thursday there was a selection of uniformed people from all 3 armed services selling at Victoria station.

I've just seen a pair of youngish looking Egyptian Geese walking on the common (opposite Cafe G). I wonder if they're siblings from the last brood or a couple.

I just received this clarification: "we recently told you we're visiting East Dulwich Library. We're sorry if this caused confusion - we'll be at Grove Vale Library every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 10am to 5pm (closed 1pm to 1.30pm). Although there's no cash service, we can help you with your everyday banking needs. You can just drop in for a chat when we're open, or search 'Find Barclays' to get directions or to book an appointment. Your Barclays team"

I've just received this announcement from Barclays Bank: 'we're now visiting East Dulwich Library every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 10am to 5pm (closed 1pm to 1.30pm). Although there's no cash service, we can help you with your everyday banking needs. You can just drop in for a chat when we're open, or search 'Barclays branch finder' to get directions or to book an appointment. Your Barclays team' I imagine they mean Dulwich library. Hope this is useful to someone. Thank you for checking branch finder. I've changed the name of the thread to say Grove Vale Library.

Get a bus to East Dulwich Station, then walk up Melbourne Grove, take the first on the right into Jarvis Road. It's a cul-de-sac with a school at the end, but at the end there is a footpath off to the left which leads into the car park of Tessa Jowell health centre. It's still a way if you have trouble walking, but might be the closest bus stop.
