Reception places available at Heber Primary School
sunbob replied to Heber P&F's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Surely this always goes through the council's waiting list? -
I too feel that this post is biased and suspicious. Dadonabike must have been extremely unlucky to have so many dog poo and dog bowling over incidents. I personally have taken my children to PRP almost daily for the last 8 years and have never had one. And we don't often get as far across the park as the dog free areas. I agree with others here that dog walkers, along with parents of pre schoolers keep the parks safe and alive during the working day, at times when they would otherwise be isolated and vulnerable. I don't want a biased and preset agenda on dogs to endanger the wonderfully lively public spaces we have here.

It's just open on weekdays in the holidays.

A lot of local schools were the involved so I guess the adults were mostly parents. There were a couple of open workshops at a local church and community centre too, so I guess only a narrow section of the neighbourhood would have seen the flyers. It was lovely so I feel sorry that some missed it.

resurfacing of Peckham Rye Carriageway
sunbob replied to solar's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Trinity, the footpath will be open (according to guy from project who I spoke to on the phone today). Could she use that? He also said that even for residents access will be pretty scarce (that is depending on what stage they're at at any one time they may or may not be able to access driveways with motor vehicles). -

The road is going to be closed apparently. Crazy to do it during the day instead of night time as is sometimes the practice. -
A lot of the special services start on 11th or 18th December so you have 3 or 4 Sundays to try some out. I've enjoyed a couple of services at all saints peckham and like St Johns goose green.

Can you pay by phone? You could have the phone number and Meter number with you and phone in at the allotted time.

I was wondering about this. The only reason I can think of is because it's a fire path ie: emergency vehicle drivers have a key to lay down the bollards and go through.

If you need money badly enough you could do an evening shift at a supermarket after your partner gets home. It is completely knackering but does bring home some money that doesn't have to be half spent on childcare.

It is sad I agree. Their employers, however, should be providing them with somewhere secure to put their things whilst they work.

Thanks for all the info. Bike train sounds exciting. I followed the new blackfriars cycle lane from the 63 bus the other day. Wow!

Does anyone know what time the bike hub at the station opens and if you can just go in and park or have to book a space please?

East Dulwich Grove crossing - dangerous drivers!
sunbob replied to Lolamaxx's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I'm sorry you had a scary experience and glad you are both OK. The traffic turning there does not have a traffic light, there is a pedestrian crossing light on lordship Lane for going straight on so don't be fooled by that. I am personally completely anal when it comes to crossing the road, especially with children, so would always take the extra 5 minutes to walk up ED Grove to the zebra crossing. -
We use Africa's best kids organics detangling lotion as a daily moisturiser (after a little spray of water just before combing) and find it really good for both children, one with ultra thirsty tight ringlets and one with large soft curls. You can get it from Paks on Rye Lane. For washing - both we wash no more than once a week, usually every 10 days or so. For the tight dry curls we never use shampoo, conditioner can dislodge dirt whilst not stripping the hair. We then smother in a very rich conditioner, comb through and leave in. For the less dry large curls we've found it OK to use a gentle cleanser type shampoo. Curly Q is a really nice kids range and I found this sight http://www.curls.biz/curly-q-hair-products-for-kids/ really useful for a lot of information and ideas. Nowadays (age 7 and 4) I am getting a bit more confident at having a look round Paks and choosing a few things to try, which tends to be less expensive. They also have spray bottles and combs with nice widely spaced teeth (feel the ends to see if they're nicely rounded). Have fun!

? It has gates all the way round. They gradually go round at the closing time for the time of year finishing with the gate by the car park (useful to know if your usual gate is already shut and you don't fancy climbing over). wanted: singing teacher for young boy.
sunbob replied to nickysydenham's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Choir singing is a lot of fun and you learn a lot of musical skills through taking part. Also, a good choir leader will be able to suggest further appropriate musical opportunities and probably an individual tutor. Also, they don't necessarily sing only classical repertoire. See this repertoire page of a great local children's choir for one example http://www.beckenhamjuniorchoir.co.uk/our-history.html?id=55 -

Forest Hill Road Practice - in Meltdown ?
sunbob replied to George Orwell's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I have had 2 experiences in the last week of incompetency from their admin side 1 of them coupled with apathy from reception staff. I will be making a complaint and copy it to maybe a councillor or MP as this experience gives me no confidence that their complaints procedure would be any better. -

A big difference before the lights were put in was that the road seemed narrower at the junction (I think I remember it being zebra crossings) so a good proportion of drivers would naturally slow down and go through cautiously and carefully. With the introduction of lights people tend to speed up instead to try and catch the green. Also, like you said, it was only after the change that the dreadful daily queues began.
