  1. The uniform list for daughter's new school specifies trainers for PE but I'm wondering if plimsoles would be OK. Term has ended now, so too late to check with the school. Any ideas please?
  2. They probably don't realise you can hear them. If you can work out when they are likely to be quietly sleeping you could make the same kinds of sounds very loudly then, so that they will realise how the sound travels. (Alternatively you could stamp loudly on the floor and shout shut up as was my other half's preferred method to gain immediate mortification/results, but then he is often unreasonable!).
  3. We were at Myatts Fields today and the water was just on from about 1-1.30 (don't know about the morning) then turned off for the rest of our visit. Still a lovely afternoon's trip though.
  4. Sorry Sarahnew nothing very exciting (battling the twin evils of tight budget and terminal sleep deprivation). Today we had rice with mince (frozen mince, frozen veg, tin tomatoes, herbs etc bunged in the pan cold stirred up, turned on then left for 15 mins to cook). Another meal might be pasta and pesto (with from veg or peas again).
  5. I have to admit that I am very lucky to have 2 great eaters (touch wood) but one change which I made when daughter got to 3 yrs old and started to be a little fussy really helped. I swapped the main cooked meal of the day to lunch time, instead of the evening. This works much better for us as I find that tiredness plays a part in them mucking around or just not being in the mood to eat much. I go for quick and easy stuff or preferably (if I've been really organised) something from the freezer. It also makes tea time much easier/quicker to prepare/you can stay out longer not have to rush back to cook.
  6. My daughter is and would love to meet some of her new classmates. Anyone else interested?
  7. Great thank you. I will make enquiries.
  8. Uh oh. Thank you for letting me know. My child is starting St Johns and Clements in September and I'm so glad I can factor this into my plans now! Have you any idea how children will get to and from Gumboots plus its hours and cost?
  9. Does anyone know how much this before/after school club charges and what time its open? Thanks.
  10. My other half is quite traditional (protestant) and was very eager to get our daughter Christened as young as possible. Our lovely CofE vicar was quite surprised and said that that's quite unusual these days, they were able to fit her in at 3 months but only by having a separate service rather than during the Sunday Mass with all our Church friends there as we would have preferred. By the time our Son came along, however, we had developed into the sleep deprived parents we are now and weren't quite so worried about the timing! We waited until about 9 months old in order for him to be welcomed into our Church in the main Sunday Mass, surrounded by our lovely Church Family, which was the most important thing for us.
  11. I use the city mini with a Bumprider board. I think it's great as it sticks out the right amount for the child to stand behind the handle and is great going along ED's bumpy pavements. My other half, at 6 footish, finds it very difficult to stear as the whole shebang is quite long. It's getting quite heavy to push now daughter is a v tall 4 year old, but it is still handy to have for long journeys.
  12. A few years ago we used Jungle Formula sensitive for our 1 year old. In a very humid, prickly-heat inducing atmosphere where I got eaten alive by mosies she got no bites and had no reaction to the cream.
  13. My son goes to the baby room at Excel one day a week. He really enjoys it and his rather apaling sleep is always at its best the night after going there. They have always been busy doing various activities inside and out when I pick him up and I find the atmosphere really warm and caring. He is due to go up a room in the winter and I want to have a better look at that before he does, as 1 of their classrooms has been out of action since last year so all the older children are in together.
  14. Undiscovered Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > We often go up to Dulwich library but > no tea options there There is a nice cafe in Christchurch, across Lordship Lane from Dulwich Library. It has toys in a little play area for the children and serves hot food as well as tea/coffee/some homemade biscuits etc.

Thank you so much for recommending The Rosendale. We went there and had a lovely time. It's such a nice setting, the children had lots of fun in the play area and I thought their food was presented really thoughtfully too as there was only a little on the plate so not over-facing as can often be the case. The main meals were very special and tasty as well.
  16. Wow. Thanks for all the ideas everyone :-)
  17. My lovely parents have offered to take us out for lunch and I fancy going somewhere new that is fun for children. Already know the Herne, cafe on the Rye and the Fox on the Hill. Any fresh ideas out there please?
  18. Could try calamine lotion. It helped my children's mild itches and costs less than 2 pounds for a bottle so worth a try.
  19. Is the no 37 the best way to get to Brixton? Just wondering how early we will need to leave to get there for 10.30.
  20. We saw a great new mural in the playground of ED community centre this morning. It somehow looks like it's always been there.
  21. Are your locations definite? We had a v limited budget and found that keeping the ceremony and reception close to each other saved a lot of money. It also made for a lovely relaxed day.
  22. Does anyone know about parking in Brixton on Saturday please? Are CPZs in action at the weekend? (Very rare child free outing coming up!)
  23. Thank you. We are going on a week day so will try and get there early and hope for the best!
  24. We are off to London Zoo soon and will be paying on the door so won't have 'fast track' tickets. Does anyone know, what are the queues like which fast track helps you avoid? (Nb have 1.5 and 4 year old to entertain).
