Winkle odds-on as 11 stand ground for QEII By Jessica Lamb12.24PM 21 SEP 2009 RIP VAN WINKLE has been installed as the 10-11 favourite for Saturday's Sony Queen Elizabeth II Stakes with Coral after 11 runners stood their ground for the Group 1 contest at Monday's forfeit stage. Rip Van Winkle's trainer Aidan O'Brien holds five of the entries includingRoyal Ascot winner Mastercraftsman, while Ireland could also be represented by the Dermot Weld-trained Famous Name. Godolphin will rely on Delegator after Donativum and Gladiatorus did not feature among the declarations. Ghanaati, winner of the Coronation Stakes at the royal meeting in June over course and distance, is the sole filly remaining, although owner Hamdan Al Maktoum also has Group 1 winner Aqlaam engaged in the race. Coral spokesman David Stevens explained the reasoning behind Rip Van Winkle's short price, he said: "Having chased home the mighty Sea The Stars three times this season, Rip Van Winkle sets the standard in our opinion. "However, the presence of Delegator and Aqlaam should ensure Saturday's race provides a stern test for Aidan O'Brien's charge." Of the other four withdrawn at the five-day stage, Goldikova, who will contest theTotal Prix de la Foret on October 3, was the most notable. Queen Elizabeth II Stakes Coral: 10-11 Rip Van Winkle, 9-4 Delegator, 5-1 Aqlaam, 16-1 Famous Name, Zacinto, 25-1 Virtual, 33-1 Poet, 150 Windsor Palace, 200 Set Sail

Annasfield Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The main one SP ;-) > > http://i33.tinypic.com/2nhkxa1.gif This really shows the nasty side of Fergie - I noticed this on MOTD last night - not nice. Really rubbing Hughes' nose in it on the added time issue.

I would have thought that my 4 year old can beat 25 grams comfortably. I would not weigh it to confirm, but I'd be very confident if ever a weigh in could be arranged with mr hom that she would win comfortably, or at least at a push.

Good thanks Woof - but I see its very nearly over, as is my week.

Fair enough. My wife's father was in the British Army and also served in Northern Ireland so there is no obvious prejudice towards that aspect of your family history on my part, I certainly did not intend to delve into any aspect of your fathers past, that's his personal career. I did consider however that your many posts about the Irish, that I have always been taken as tongue in cheek, might have had a bit more prejudice about them than I had previously thought, which would not be at all unusual in someone in our situation and that was the meaning behind my post. But I think your previous post puts that to rest, lets go back to normal banter (M8).

This has become a serious thread Daizie. Inocuous title I know, but you never know what will materialise in the Lounge.

Have to say watching the Chelski Spurs game live I though from the first 20 mins that Howard Webb looked like he was not going to give much to Spurs, obvious fouls on Defoe and Keane not given. Some people are just career referees and in our working lives we all seek to impress the most important people, Howard Webb knows the teams/managers he should not upset. I don't rate him at all and not sure he can be objective when the big teams are playing at home.

And I thought the most shocking revelation on this thread was DM's Irish roots, I'd like to say that this revelation will not change my view of you BBW, and to date I have always been able to take your bogtrotter comments lightly. I have to say that now its a bit more tricky as it appears there is a bit of "history" to your views.

Have just seen the Manc derby on MOTD - fantastic stuff, and I have never seen Fergie so animated as he was at the finish - Man City have really gotoon under their skin. Great finish by Owen. Looks like being the best Premiership for years, lots of teams playing well. But I really wish I had seen that game live, must have been fantastic for anyone watching it on Sky. Family has to come first some times though.

Don't see much naughty about that Anna, Brian Clough might have hit him a bit harder.

I feel I know so much more about you now DM, we are suitably enlightened. I'm sure Brenda is a lovely woman.

I prefer maths to girls Rosie - if there happens to be a girl on a maths website, then thats just a bonus.

Yes she has Keef. I won't be watching anymore. I just wish I had called in more times though, I could have saved her. And what was Len thinking? Did he have to be so objective, next time Len, just let Martina stay, not some bloke noone has ever heard of. Shocking. Disgruntled from ED.

You can find most things on the internet Christina The Herne

I have never met a girl called math in real life, but I'm as wild about her as anyone else on here, she's hot.

2 great goals from Torres, he really looks sharp. And some fantasy football points too.
