  1. Just waiting for Declan to enter the debate Quids.
  2. Ireland is also a goegraphical land mass, so the term "Great Britain and Ireland" does not omit Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland is a country/state within Ireland, don't think anyone could argue with that.
  3. In the "Scotland" thread there was reference made to the British Isles. Some people still use the term although of course Republic of Ireland is clearly not "British". Is it correct to still use the term when referring to Great Britain and Ireland? I think the term implies British ownership or British rule, some think its purely a geographical name, but I suspect Republic of Ireland people are not comfortable with it. [i'd put this in the Drawing Room but I suspect the Lounge debate will be more fun]

    Scotland?

Tongue in cheek Jah - just thought it was amusing why someone would think there was any need to point out that Scotland was in Great Britain, only an American would think that was news to anyone surely.

Scotland - lets not go there.
  7. Who would have thought a simple one line OP would turn out such an interesting debate between such good friends. Oh and BBW, the clue's in the name - he's probably quite Big.

I realised I was betting on all and sundry since starting this thread in an attempt to show my sporting expertise??? unsuccessfully - .......I have reverted to my normal pattern of regular carefully chosen bets. I see Rip is not running until 26 September now at Ascot. The Irish Champion Stakes is interesting in that STS is well behing Fame and Glory in the betting. Rip not running though so may pass. I have a lump on Arsenal now for the Premiership, that gives me someone to support this year.
  9. At about ?90 a month (if you can rely on Ruffer's web link) it seems a good resource for those who do not have a car and do not use their "driveway".

Any journalist who thinks a little bit of contact, on a player who has 1) already decided to fall down and is 2) already falling down before contact takes place, gets that player off with cheating/diving accusations is missing the point.

Atila - Is one dodgy penalty per week not enough for you - don't get greedy now.

    dunno.
  13. They are scoring more goals against premiership teams so far than in each game against Celtic Declan. I think they look a good team to me but we will know more tomorrow.
  14. im liking arsenal on the break declan. Early lead then mu pushing forward and arsenal catching them up the park a couple of times.
  15. Good point Matt. Fabregas out of MU match.
  16. Injury is not in question here Simon. He fell over without being touched to gain a penalty. That makes him a cheat. Its nothing to do with feigning injury. It's been highlighted by the press and a UEFA ban will highlight it further. Players will think twice in future. Good result. I have no sympaty for him - He should not have done it.
  17. Blackburn 1 West Ham 1 Bolton 1 Liverpool 2 Chelsea 2 Burnley 1 Man Utd 1 Arsenal 3 Stoke 1 Sunderland 1 Tottenham 3 Birmingham 0 Wolverhampton 1 Hull 2 Aston Villa 2 Fulham 1 Everton 2 Wigan 0 Portsmouth 1 Man City 1 C'mon the Arsenal.
  18. Wenger fumed: "It is a complete disgrace. It singles out a player to be a cheat and that is not acceptable. We will not accept the way Uefa have treated this. "There is a complete lack of logic in this case. Why? Because people have reacted emotionally. That I can understand in this case, first. "Secondly because this case has been ruled by the media and three emotionally by the Scottish FA. Scottish people are working at Uefa. This case is more sensitive because they have more influence there." If Eduardo is suspended he would miss Standard Liege away on 16 September and the home match with Olympiacos on 29 September. Wenger added: "I believe you can debate whether it is a penalty or not. But this charge implies that with intent and with a desire to cheat the referee, Eduardo did act. Yes - that's right Arsene - that is what UEFA is saying. They are saying he is a cheat.

All this Arsenal "we would have won anyway" talk is probably true - but we will never know - a fair contest was all that Celtic deserved, and they did not even get that. That takes the shine off the Arsenal win. I think where there is a blatent case of diving you DO have to highlight it - it makes other players think twice.
  20. Eduardo charged with cheating by UEFA - 1 September hearing. [Gallas charged with scoring lucky unfair goal - Caldwell charged with being crap - Arshavin charged with being too good]

Tis true Brendan Answer Actually, nobody really knows who invented golf. Scotland and Great Britain are the two most widley belived to be where Golf was invented. In Great Britain Golf has been played since 1340. Although Scotland is the place where the game of Golf was put together primitivly. Scotland's the place where they added the hole to the game of Golf.
