  1. Gore blimey, you’ve made me tear right up, you have. I’ll petition the council immediately to get the unrestricted parking off Lordship Lane (where it obstructs the far larger numbers of bus + bike commuters, and even car-borne shoppers) and onto your street. No residents allowed. It’s the sacrifice you’ll be proud to make for those plucky (car) commuters. 🫡
  2. It’s hard to be sure - you don’t cite any sources whatsoever for any of your data… West Dulwich Action Group says “67.5% of residents object to the plans”. Source of the claim is here: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GWpc2bQWQAAQzwf?format=jpg&name=large Source of the data is unclear to me.
  3. Yes, there should have been e-bike rental legislation at national level. The last government didn’t grasp the nettle when it arose and this government doesn’t seem inclined to unify 100 councils’ responses either.
  4. 1) e-scooter trial is cascaded from central government ie DfT. It required Westminster legislation because e-scooters are prima facie illegal on public roads. It’s not a London trial - it’s a national trial. 2) no 3) yes
  5. Yes. E-bikes and scooters are regulated entirely differently.
  6. Hello neighbours as you may know, PECAN operates Southwark Foodbank, a food bank that serves and relies upon all of Southwark, including East Dulwich. They help hundreds of vulnerable people a month with fresh and stable food, basic hygiene necessities and other support. The level of need that exists in our community is unbelievable and PECAN’s work is literally a lifeline for some people. unfortunately they need our help now more than ever. As they explained last night: This Monday wasn’t a great start for us, as we had a break in at our Southwark Foodbank warehouse over the weekend. Unfortunately, large quantities of food, hygiene products, and a laptop were stolen. Sadly, the door and shutter were also damaged, leaving us with costly repairs. Now, our food stock is running low, and we are also faced with unexpected repair expenses. This situation tells us it is a challenging time for many. Therefore, we need your help and any support you can offer, whether through donations or other means, as it will make a difference to those who rely on us. ⚠ Here's how you can support us: > Our Tesco Food Collection is on 12 –13 September, at the Old Kent Road branch, so if you are shopping on one of those days, please take a shopping list and donate if possible. > Or you can donate via Bankuet https://lnkd.in/eGjE7V6x Thank you - Southwark Foodbank and Pecan Article from Southwark News here: https://southwarknews.co.uk/area/peckham/peckham-food-bank-ransacked-overnight-leaving-struggling-families-in-crisis/
  7. Thank you! In some ways, quite straightforward: it’s a local shopping street for locals, and not much else to say. but interesting that almost a decade ago punters said they came to Lordship Lane because it had a wide variety of shops…but the thing that it was missing was a wider variety of shops!
  8. Can you please upload it or link to the data? Thank you kindly in advance.
  9. The Conservatives were voted out in May 2024. And tbf this wasn’t even in their Top 20 of central government failures.
  10. “The increase was blamed on “seasonal weather and temperature variations” and only eight of the [32] locations saw more nitrogen dioxide by December last year than in August 2023.”
  11. I’m dead against it, to be honest.
  12. To call that a non sequitur would be generous.
  13. “[Brent] wants riders to park in cordoned-off areas only and increased fines for those who don’t. Lime says it is willing to work with Brent Council but wants more of these parking zones to ensure it is still a convenient service for its customers in the borough. …Wandsworth Council says it will largely ban e-bikes being left anywhere on pavements once it has finished building 111 dedicated parking areas. “ That’s exactly what is being proposed for Southwark, isn’t it? Seems reasonable and I’d be in favour (so long as there is also a roving band of AI droids identifying and immediately shredding all Lime bikes not parked in approved areas).
  14. …and then goes onto explain in some detail the nature of non-tailpipe pollution that electric and fossil fuel vehicles alike produce. The RAC is not known for its sandal-wearing, yoghurt-weaving, anti-car propaganda. Electric vehicles and “modern technology” are not going to eradicate air and noise pollution and congestion as serious concerns. (If you think they will - invest heavily in properties along the South Circular - you’ll make tons of money!). Increased autonomous vehicle usage and increased population in London is going to increase the demand for journeys at all times of day.
  15. Maybe you can just wander along to Dulwich Marina and get them for free, then.
  16. It’s complete nonsense that electric vehicles will solve pollution: https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/electric-cars/running/do-electric-vehicles-produce-more-tyre-and-brake-pollution-than-petrol-and/ Traffic jams (regardless of how that traffic is fuelled) cost the economy billions: https://www.london.gov.uk/who-we-are/what-london-assembly-does/questions-mayor/find-an-answer/economic-impact-congestion-london Traffic noise pollution kills: https://ukhsa.blog.gov.uk/2023/06/29/noise-pollution-mapping-the-health-impacts-of-transportation-noise-in-england/ But, to be fair, if your position is that what we have now is OK and we shouldn’t try to fix anything - well, at least that’s honest.
  17. Not sure whether you want the council to enforce parking restrictions or not have them at all. 🤷
  18. That doesn’t make any sense at all. If that were the case, the parking spaces would be heavily restricted - not given away for free and blocked up by dodgy trucks and vans for days, weeks or months at a time.
  19. Individual business owners are notorious for overestimating how many of their customers drive to their shops, and overestimate the importance of free parking to shoppers. https://www.vox.com/future-perfect/354672/hochul-congestion-pricing-manhattan-diners-cars-transit https://findingspress.org/article/24497-local-business-perception-vs-mobility-behavior-of-shoppers-a-survey-from-berlin https://cidadanialxmob.tripod.com/shoppersandhowtheytravel.pdf
  20. The “Arizona” registration plate on the pickup truck is fake. £1000 fine. https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/results?registration=Mku254w&checkRecalls=true https://www.gov.uk/displaying-number-plates
  21. Source: trust me, bro The empirical evidence suggests otherwise. But in any case no one is seriously proposing what you are opposing. https://www.businessinsider.com/downtowns-cities-holiday-shopping-eliminating-street-parking-spots-boosts-retail-2023-10?amp https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0966692323002053?via%3Dihub
  22. A lot of pearl clutching about “lying” and “gaslighting” from the council, but it doesn’t sit well with spreading falsehoods about Southwark paying for the private works of the Dulwich Estate and mad conspiracy theory rants about Marxists.
  23. Glad we all agree that road space for parking is a scarce resource and that the council giving it away for free is madness.
  24. Seems like the council has listened, and has hacked back the scope of the proposed CPZ, and is now sending the smaller scheme to a formal consultation. Some truly North Korean turnout from our comrades on Druce Rd!
