  1. Damn. 3 wasted young lives. Very sad.
  2. They should do that. Asking the branch manager is unlikely to make them do that. I suspect only a bunch of fines from the police will focus their mind. But hopefully I'm wrong.
  3. Obviously the reason for allowing the private concerts to take place is money. Council wouldn't even think about it otherwise. And obviously council needs money from wherever it can get it to fund its normal service provision. I'm begrudgingly okay with losing access to this section of the park, so long as the sum of money received is decent and so long as Gala actually cleans up/restores the location. In past years it doesn't seem like this has been properly done and checked. I don't believe any of Gala's sustainability bullshit when it leaves the site in a state. You seem to be blaming the council for your lack of awareness. Have you made the slightest effort to find out this information on the council's website? It's all there, in painful detail. As for your question about whether central govt has cut councils' income (central govt doesn't determine councils' budgets)...have you read a newspaper in the last 12 years? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom_government_austerity_programme
  4. The turnover of staff in these stores is huge and it's hard to exercise control over a bunch of young men earning minimum wage or close to it doing uncomfortable and dangerous work.
  5. I think as this is not merely a parking offence, if you're in a position where you can fix a camera and video it, you can submit a report with video clip through Met Police website and they can fine them...each time they go through. https://www.met.police.uk/ro/report/rti/rti-beta-2.1/report-a-road-traffic-incident/
  6. 1) not sure it was publicly-funded, alice. Did you read the report? https://www.ukonward.com/reports/good-neighbours/ 2) there's a clear positive relationship between wealth and trust. Look at the diagrams in the middle of the report. 3) there's also a weaker negative relationship between population density and trust, and between Remain sentiment and trust. The latter is probably a consequence of the former. 4) I'm not statistically smart enough to know if any of these relationships are material.
  7. Il Sovrano cafe/deli has opened up in the old Barclays Bank site on South Croxted Rd, opposite Tesco Metro and next to Elderflower food shop. Yes, I know it's West Dulwich. It's a very nice, breezy space, with deli stuff at the front and a coffee bar, and then spacious seating at the back. Coffee is good. Food seems hyper-authentic Italian. Staff are friendly and attentive to a fault... Meanwhile, Walter's opposite has closed temporarily - they were burgled with equipment stolen. There was also a burglary at the hairdressers a few doors down. :(
  8. £4000 pcm is a very comfortable budget. Not unlikely that you could live in Dulwich Village in a decent sized house, be close to good state school, be close to North Dulwich station, be close to the park AND be on the P4 bus route. The P4 isn't perfect but it runs 5am to 1am, and connects directly to Honor Oak Park (and Brixton for the tube and Loughborough Junction for Thameslink). But wherever you end up - agree totally with newresidentindulwich that minimizing the number of car journeys day to day will be a big plus...
  9. Peckham Rye to Honor Oak by train is NOT easy access. P12 bus gets there in 19 minutes (the long way around). "Lively" and "vibrant" are euphemisms...but everyone has their own taste, and it's only by scouting around that OP will work out what suits them.
  10. Considering you have three key locations (kids' school, station for work, your mum's house), my only suggestion would be to give yourself a break and live close to at least one of those places! There is a nice strip of shops on Forest Hill Rd/Ryedale, buses direct to Peckham Rye, close to the park, close to Honor Oak... A lot depends on your budget, as with so much in London...
  11. East Dulwich is Nappy Valley - there are loads of families with young kids. Dulwich Village is more expensive. West Dulwich feels a bit more suburban and has fewer amenities imho. Dulwich Park is great for kids - and if they go to a catchment school they'll often bump into their classmates from school, which is nice. Peckham Rye playground is great in summer (a bit bleak in winter tbh) and Goose Green playpark is always busy (which is good). There's a bunch of schools and pre-schools - state and private. Transport links to the City are good: mostly the train to London Bridge from East Dulwich amd North Dulwich, but you also have Thameslink nearby, the 42 bus, and easy bike routes too. It is not cheap. If you are lucky enough to afford a place that's right next to a park and your kids' school, you'll be laughing. Like anywhere in London - try to live somewhere you don't need to use a car frequently or ever... It is generally safe and quiet (despite some shrill noises on here). There are approximately 4000 coffee, bread, and pizza shops on Lordship Lane. Big Sainsbury's nearby - plenty of other little and specialist shops. I don't know Blackheath at all - I'm sure it's nice. What kind of place do you live in now and do you want somewhere similar...?
  12. The pastries are very good (but probably several thousand calories each...).
  13. /viewtopic.php?p=2305518#p2305518
  14. Ahhh, I see. I'm sorry to hear that. What a drag.
  15. I'm sorry to hear about the thefts. It must be a real pain and upset. I don't really understand who's stealing them. They're not going to be used with clone plates or sent out to West Africa like the newer stolen 4x4s would be, and surely breaking them or selling them to collectors would be too obvious given how small the target market would be...?
  16. For most people in East Dulwich, releasing it 100 yards away just means flicking the problem onto your neighbours! Southwark pest control team is cheap, affordable and serves all residents (not just council tenants). https://www.southwark.gov.uk/pest-control
  17. They're only making plans for Nigel (Road)...
  18. Where is the burst water main (this time)?
  19. If you're talking about this Voice article, it's pretty pernicious journalism - there's a strong implication that McLeod was binned because of his race, but the candidate selected was also black.
  20. Shelter may be able to give advice on housing law: https://england.shelter.org.uk/get_help South Bank Uni has a free legal clinic: https://www.lsbu.ac.uk/study/study-at-lsbu/our-schools/law-and-social-sciences/study/subjects/law/legal-advice-clinic Good luck!
  21. Yeah, xenophobia, like when you talk about people f**king off back to another country. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2015/oct/19/woman-anti-muslim-bus-tirade-admits-racial-abuse
  22. Tbf you can hardly blame them for something they didn't say and don't believe.
  23. Oh my goodness, that's awful and very upsetting. Take care.
