Burbage.. That's interesting. If it isn't an official NHL walk in centre, why are DMC so keen to suggest it as the alternative when they have no appointments available? As I say, the time I went there, I went back to DMC and kicked up a fuss until my daughter got seen, but I still feel cross they sent me on a wild goose chase with 3 small children in tow, one of whom was very unwell.

A simple linctus is best for a cough, or a warm drink before bed. I think a hot bath is a good thing too, for coughs ND COLDS, also sleeping with the head elevated

I follow it :-) But I was picking out the ks2 progression as that's CtuAlly part of the stats published by the govt as part of league tables, and the measures show more about a school and the difference it is making than plain gcse stats do, given that some schools have quite different intakes to others. -

Oimissus, that is pretty much my attitude. For instance, I say to my children that it's ok to eat chips once or twice a week, that they don't need to worry too much because they are very active, but some adults do eat too many chips and it's bad for them (plus doesn't leave enough space for fruit And veg etc) None of the people we know who are dieting seem particularly fat to me, which probably makes it all the more confusing for her. -
Just far too much experience of the sort of medical issues that drag on and on until when you look back, you think, why did I put up with that? Since one of my twins had a really serious urine infection that went undiagnosed for over a week and ended up with her fitting and needing a lumbar puncture, I am now mrs well informed mother, polite but firm! Don't you think sometimes when you are back and forth to the gp, often seeing a different one each time, they often don't seem to take proper account of the history and treat each new visit as if it were the first? ThAts where problems creep in, I think.
-
Don't know about that, lol! I would probably see the gp, enquire about a swab (there doesn't need to be visible discharge afaik) and then have a chat with the school.

I wonder whether after the third bout, it's something she should be referred for? I also wonder whether stomach pain makes it more akin to cystitis... Surely if it was he vulva only, it would be more localised pain? Poor little lamb. It's horrible when they have something going on and you can't get to the bottom of it. Peeing in the shower is a good option if it's stinging a lot
-
Though this says that thrush is rare in children http://www.anzvs.org/docs/ANZVS-PedVulva.pdf All looks like good advice there... Sounds potentially quite nasty, I would definitely see the gp again... This confirms the vinegar idea http://www.rch.org.au/kidsinfo/fact_sheets/Vulval_skin_care_for_girls/ I can help worrying it might sting though!
-
Is it a bacterial infection, as opposed to thrush? Only antibiotics might well encourage thrush. I would have thought drinking plenty of water and avoiding juice and sugary drinks would be of benefit whichever it is... Avoiding tights, trousers, man made fibres, bubble bath, soap, and rinsing washing very thoroughly withit fabric conditioner. If the gp suggests another rounded ntibiitics, ask for a swab, to make sure the right ones are prescribed? Live yoghurt is good from a probiotic point of view

Thanks everyone. I have quite a healthy attitude to food myself and boys are a different kettle of fish mostly e I think ... I can't help bring a bit nervous at the thought of raising a girl in today's society - it's not nice to have my worries exacerbated by this so early on -

I meant 3 full levels from end of ks2 to end of ks4 Ie a level 4 at end if y6 should mean a minimum of grade c at gcse A level 5 should mean an a or a b http://www.education.gov.uk/performancetables/schools_09/s11.shtml As the % 5 a*-c is as much a measure of the school's intake, as anything, looking at the % making the required progress will tell you more -

Mm: that's true, but at this stage no school's results are final yet - and it's a sign of the scramble to hit targets and top league tables that some schools are playing their cards very close to their chest. I think the best indication anyway, that a school will do well by your child isn't the % of 5a*-c but the % achieving 3 or more levels of progress between ks2 and ks4 - this is what will tell you how many primary high flyers got the a grades at gcse that they should be aiming for, for eg -

I have never been on a diet, but ATM everyone else seems to be, my partner, my sister and her partner. I have says firmly that it's not the foods which are to blame, just eating too much of them in comparison with other foods/exercise but I suspect it's a sign of things to come with the media as it is. -
I would be interested to hear people's thoughts about raiding girls, and issues re health, weight, food and image. My daughter is only 4 and a skinny little thing, it's sad to hear her talking about diets and some foods being fattening

The phrase 'walk in centre' hints at a speedy turnaround .. A better name might be 'dash over to Peckham then sit for hours in a waiting room' centre
-
When I tried the lister centre with 3 amAll children in tow, I was told the wait would be 3h!

If you think that at 6m the gut is still immature and the body only just gearing up to digest foreign proteins, makes sense that a 6-7m old, if left to self feed, is probably still at the 'waving about and mashing into heir hair' stage of eating ... I agree with the others, it hee in hee chair to join in mealtimes with some things to experiment with, an it will come, with reasonable competence and enthusiasm by 14-15m IME
