    Great Gigs

Keef - I'm thinking of going to the Zutons. Maybe see you there?

I assume you're basing that on our big signings of the last (current) season? The major money we have spent has been on the following Torres ?20 million Mascherano ?18 million Babel ?8 million Benayoun ?5 million Yep, you're right we've spent about ?50 mill. However in terms of what we've spent and who we've sold doesn't ever seem to be factored in. We sold Bellamy (?7.5m), Sissoko (?8.2m), Luis Garica (?7m). Not quite the ?50m figure that is banded about. It will be the same this season, we will have to see players to buy new ones. I don't know the ins and outs of United and Chelsea, but if you consider that Torres is our record signing and that Chelsea signed Essien for a cool ?30 million, we've spent nothing like they have. Just goes to show that you can buy a CL final if you so desire. ;-)

We've not spent ?150 million and Arsenal haven't even got close to that figure. Agreed that you have to spend to be competitive, but the money that United and Chelsea throw at players is ridiculous.

  5. Did I finish last? I checked my Telegraph teams today and I did in the mini league I entered. >:D< I still had Sissoko in my team - shows how long it was since I last looked at it.
  6. I noticed one yesterday on the number 40 route between Borough and Elephant & Castle. Strange.... :-S
  7. I'd like to apologise for being totally unsociable on Friday night. I'd had a few too many after work beverages and realised I was talking utter crap, so decided to distance myself. :-$ Nice to meet/see new faces though. :)
  8. Jeez, I know. Was at the Spurs, Liverpool game and couldn't believe it every time the score line came up. At one point all the Kopites (I was sat with the home lot) went nuts and started singing about Heskey. Someone must have told them that Wigan had equalised. No such luck. :( Quite enjoyed the lane. Torres almost scored in the second half and I was ready to leap out of my seat, forgetting where I was. That's the first time I've been relieved that a Liverpool shot was saved. :-$
  9. The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army. But actually the Kop version about Mascher as opposed to the original. :));-)
  10. Apparently John Arne Riise threw his toys out of the pram when Rafa told him to find a new club. He's been a good player for us, but I don't think he'll be the one to take us to the next level. Sad to see Crouch go though, but he's just not getting enough games. Remember how everyone slated Rafa for buying him? I heard that a certain D Villa might be heading our way though. Fingers crossed......

  12. Holkham, Norfolk. A12, M11, A11 then some B road.
  13. I always get the train, which means leaving the house at 8 to make the 8.15 in to London Bridge. From there I walk up to Bishopsgate and be sat at my desk for 8.50/8.55. Like Ladygooner says, head to the back of the train - it's less crowded. I tore a ligament in my knee earlier this year, so found it less painful to get the number 40 in to work. I found that if I got on the bus at about 7.50 I could be at my desk for 8.40/8.45, but anything after 8 would mean I was late for work. It did my head sat in Borough watching the time creep forward knowing I'd be late. I couldn't even get off and walk. :( The bus is only and option for me now if I'm injured or suffering from the night before and just need to sit down and recover. ;-) (or if it's raining cats and dogs)

(6) Quit picking on Keef and get your facts right. I think you'll find we've won a fair bit of silverware this century! ;-)
  15. Blimey - I only went out for lunch. God I hate this thread, I wish I stayed away like I said I would. On the Liverpool forums there's an ignore function, whereby if you constantly fall out with someone, you can ignore them and their comments won't appear. Wonder if Admin could set one up on here. I'm torn next weekend I'm afraid. Would love Pompey to win and play in Europe, but also I'd love to see Robbie "GOD" Fowler do the business for Cardiff. I will therefore hope for a 4-3 win to Pompey with a Fowler hat-trick.
  16. Hmmm, not sure to be honest Keef. Barry is a great player and it would be great to have another Englishman in the squad. That said, if we want to challenge for the Premiership next season, we'll have to buy big and I'm therefore uncertain if Barry is the man for the job. Ted Max - re you're comments about Alonso, I'll be quite surprised if he's still at Anfield next season. Mascher was a great buy and allows Stevie to play as a second striker as he holds the midfield. I love watching him play, he's just so committed and plays with his heart on his sleeve.

Why did you have to come in here and swear? SOCCER?! (6) I am most disappointed Mr P :(
  18. Boo hiss! On a separate note - I hate the summer :(. Why couldn't we have qualified for the Euro's.
  19. I'm off to the Drunken Monkey in Shoreditch tonight. Something like that would be cooooool B)
  20. Doesn't Ping Pong do Dim Sum?
  21. Clapham Schlapham... Tbey remind me of Spittalfields and the South Bank.

(Which I don't think would be too bad)
  23. Keef - I believe that's about right for Torres. A proper bargain - not sure exactly sure how it all worked but I'm sure that Gracia (he drinks Sangria ;-)) was part of that deal. So the final figure was actually less than ?20m.
  24. I agree with you there Atila, but I don't think you'll find that Liverpool have spent as much as everyone seems to think. Fair enough, we have had more than other clubs in the Premiership but we have spent nothing like the likes of Chelsea and United. The sad thing is that to compete, we have to spend like them too. We then enter the realms of "buying our success". Football ain't what it was and it is such a shame. I can understand Wenger's ambition to grow his squad without splashing the cash. Sadly for you guys, this season the squad tired towards the end. I've said it on here before, but Rafa's youngsters are doing very well - did you catch Insua at the weekend? Plessis when we played at the Emirates and Craven Cottage? There are several youngsters waiting to break through in to the first team and I imagine that if Rafa stays, he will be looked at in the same manner as Wenger in a couple of years time. A sad day for football, but it's the only way to compete these days.
