Ofsted is not everything. I'll second this. Despite the 'myth' of choice these days, I looked around a lot of schools because we weren't sure where we were going to be living and put them on the list based on where I thought my son would 'fit' best and be happiest - this was not the one with the 'best' OFSTED report. Hard, of course, to add this into the equation before they're born...

  4. ON another note, sad the Nunhead one's died a death... but then again soudns like it never 'came to life' anyway.

Point taken - it's a shame the 'bad one's give the rest of us a bad name... I was enjoying the zombies analogy though, and all categories - foot/bike and vehicle were being nicely targeted. My bug bear is where the curb's been extended out turning off Rye Lane near the Rye Hotel. All the buses now go OVER it as it juts out so far.

What a shame - I'm sure zombies would have more of a sense of humour or am I missing yours here???

We - eventually - raked up enough to buy a shared ownership property last year. It's our HOME and I wake up grateful for it every single day. All we ever wanted was somewhere to live. I know there are 'logical' reasons for people buying as an investment, but when people who want a property just to bloody live in are priced out by those looking for immediate investment/profit it sucks quite frankly. HI there - you can also just drop in at Sunshine House and there's someone from Contact a Family on the desk there to give advice about the best way to get a referral. Can't remember if they're there every day though, but you could probably ring them too.
  10. I'm 'just visiting' your thread as I am hopefully, a few years away from this, although I've already spotted teenager traits in some of the girls in my son's Year 4 class... Wondering if a thread is enough - maybe it needs a whole new section to itself.
  11. Yunna - sadly you are right - people seem to talk to each other on here in a way they would never dream of (hopefully) in person. Sometimes the forum can be a poisonous place to be.... Equally - sometimes it can be hard to resist being dragged in to it. Anyway - I'm off post now, so I'll stop.

Re: the first para: AH - the Whig 'progress' view of things...although admittedly yes I wrote in haste you are right science doesn't change but then does our interpretation and understanding of science always change for the better? Doubt it. I'm pretty sure a dose of natural curiosity/cynicism is good whichever 'side' you're on. And I repeat - there are some for whom medical reasons make whether or not to vaccinate a far more agonising decision, but then I'm sure that we've gone over and over all of this many times, and giving the benefit of the doubt - maybe this is what you mean by putting other people's children at risk.

  14. Lots of emotive language here as this topic always generates. Yes lots of studies have debunked concerns. But then again, people used to use asbestos because it was thought to be safe and used to put their children under UV lamps for its 'health-giving benefits'. Times change, science changes and what we know and understand changes - although people often have short memories - so I don't personally think its as black and white as many suggest and am sorry the issue sometimes brings out dismissive language. Hi there - thanks for the update. Really looking forward to seeing it finished. Keep going by on foot/on the bus with my kids and we get tantalising glimpses of it. I can imagine it's cost a lot to do - time/resource. Looking forward to the unveiling. H

Got to agree - for most, but not ALL, weighing up would be in favour of vaccinating. I think there are some cases where its not clear cut either way - that's were the poor parent's got a really hard decision to make. H
  17. My friend's daughter spent two years up to the age of 3 sucking her favourite toy monkey's arm. She had about 10 so that when one got dirty they could replace it with another. Perhaps you can find a substitute? Or could he suck a bit that doesn't get dirty - wrist/ skin on top of hand? It's evidently giving him comfort/pleasurable in some way.

  19. I've had similar reservations to Medusa above. With my second, he's actually had the first round, but I had heard that you could get a test done to see if the first round of jabs had left them with enough immunity to warrant holding off on the second jab. Somewhere in London does the testing - although I don't know what your local GP would say if you asked to have their immunity tested before going for the second jab but I don't think they offer it. Not looked into it further to assess it properly though. H
  20. Hi there Mrs TP, Might be worthwhile going along to one of the Dawn Chorus bird walks usually on later in the year - Peckham Rye Park/One Tree Hill and other places. I took my son along and we couldn't believe just how many types of bird are actually living in Peckham Rye Park. H

Lol - I have plenty of big problems already. In fact the aircraft noise was stopping me sorting one of them out... But seriously - some great ideas here - esp. the missile launching.... I have a 'hot thought' record sheet somewhere - perhaps that together with a bit of yoga. OR, could just open some wine and maybe then howl at the moon which was looking rather beautiful earlier.
  25. Well - I'm now officially obsessed. Been desperately listening in vain all evening for a noiseless space between planes - but before one fades then next one's coming in. ARGHH! I remember rolling my eyes at my sister when she visited 5 years ago when, every time a plane came over she'd say 'Oooh, another one!' - currently remembering the relative peace and quiet of those halcyon days fondly. Bloody Heathrow. Bloody planes. Do people get the same about birdsong and chickens in the countryside????? H
