  1. Hello there. I'm writing a piece for the next local NCT newsletter on lack of sleep in pregnancy. I'd be really interested in Dulwich Mums' experiences and views. Did you have trouble getting to sleep and find yourself cleaning at 4 a.m. (like me). Did you struggle to get comfortable? Were you trying to get some rest with older kiddies still waking up in the night? I remeber the luxury of at least trying to sleep when you wanted to with number one, which just didn't happen with number two! Did your OH help out and support you? And what strategies and remedies did you find that helped or didn't you find anything to help? I'd love to hear any views. Please also let me know if its OK to quote you (name changed) in my article. Thanks in advance Helen
  2. Sorry - 'correct something said earlier' is too strong. Different areas seem to have different policies on home births after a difficult one. Getting off the post subject anyway. Just didn't want anyone to think you COULDNT have a home birth after Caesarian/other traumatic births. Must stop whittering ....
  3. Just to correct something saud earlier. Actually you can have a home birth on the NHS - Brierley etc. after a previous Caesarian!!!! My friend is currently with them under these conditions and due to give birth next week. She will have her home birth midwife with her at home and the midwife will transfer wiht her to hospital IF she needs to go. I was told the same after a traumatic first birth - not Caes but pretty bad damage. Kings Hospital are more enlightened nowadays and will not push you to a cases sedonc time round. the home birth midwife team saw no difficulty. Had a wonderful home birth with the Brierley. Save your money!!!!
  4. Think I ran into this guy when pregnant. REALLY obnoxious when I apparently didn't show the date on my travelcard well enough. Rather than dissolving in floods of hormonal tears however it just made me more feisty in return and held up the bus journey whilst he harrangued me and everyone stared - hopefully in pity! Feel sorry for the less hardy individuals he bullies. Must be raising his blood pressure though! Will be thinking calm zen-like thoughts meself if I'm ever on his bus again otherwise I'm likely to brain him with my brolly!
  5. Hello there. Similar reasons - traumatic birth, stuck, posterior, forceps and then back in hospital after a week very ill. All in all my son was probabbly traumatised and definately couldn't settle. I took my son for craniosacral therapy at the Dulwich Medical Centre. One of their independent practitioners upstairs treated him. Her name's Helen Oates. Here's the link on their pages and contact details. http://www.dulwichmedicalcentre.nhs.uk/craniosacral.htm I can't praise it enough. The therapy was amazing - I can't really describe how much better he was straight away. I needed 3 sessions and then that was it. Helen Oates was lovely too.
  6. As a follow up, I realise it makes it sound as though the Kings experience was bad! The staff were nearly all absolutely lovely, caring and did their best. I guess having scans is always going to be worrying and hospitals always involve worry and waiting around as more urgent cases are seen etc.
  7. Hello there. As a seasoned survivor of the Kings system, I'd say don't worry. I had a string of 'problems' with my first baby on scans - cysts on the brain and abdomen, placental problems, hormone problems and possible Edward's syndrome (babies do not usually survive for long with this) etc all of which added up to a not very positive probable outcome. My baby was off the scale small - 2 centile to 10 centile until over 30 weeks and then grew. As a result I had 10 or so scans and grew to hate them as I wasn't 'signed off' as probably OK until about 38 weeks. When my baby was born he was, guess what, TOTALLY average size, weight etc. I guess I'm agreeing with some of the other posts which say try not to worry. I know how hard it is not too - it haunts and gnaws at you! At King's the staff are great but its almost as if the scans these days can see too much and they feel obliged to tell you what they can see but don't always know whether or not what they see is significant or not. Also, centile measurements do change and ALL babies grow differently. Mayby your baby is growing a lot taller at the minute rather than putting on mass and fat around the middle? Mine grew substantially around his abdomen in the last 5-6 weeks or so. They're all different. Good luck and look forward to enjoying your baby!
  8. Hello there. I'll also be dragging two little boys around Peckham Park for some of the summer (and most Thursdays and Fridays all year round). We're sometimes to be seen at the one o'clock club or venturing as ar as Dulwich Park if feeling adventurous! Would love to tag along if anything's planned or anyone meeting up. My two are aged four and one. Helen P
  9. Yes - don't always go by appearances. Try looking at the hygiene reports on William Rose and other 'posh' cafes nearby like Le Chandelier and you might get a shock. They only get one or two stars out of five! Check out: http://www.scoresonthedoors.org.uk/business-detail.php?business_id=155665
  10. Ditto - second the mention of Fourways in Herne Hill - bit like Macey's used to be. Really miss the pharmacist - what a star! New lady pharmacist hasn't been too helpful when I've had questions for her.
  11. Did the owners find their cat does anyone know??
