Nick has built a superbly crafted set of shelves for us, designed to accommodate as many books as possible. His design suggestions proved to be excellent, he was helpful and accommodating and very easy company in the house. Would strongly recommend. Nick Broughton 07815 873373

Niko, excellent as ever, came round at very short notice today to sort out a leak for us. He’s always happy to offer ongoing advice, all round good guy!

You could try koorosh Nejad [email protected] No personal experience of using him - but I met him last week and he gave me his card. www.hearingnow.co.uk

There were builders carrying out repairs to the flat roof above it at the weekend - maybe they had a leak after all the heavy rain that needed fixing. It certainly seemed to close very suddenly and without warning!

There is now a need to request a collection (this is free) - if you don't the tree won't be collected even if you do pay for a brown bin collection - as I found out to my cost this week!

We got 2 parking tickets despite having renewed well in advance of the expiry date of our permit. On renewal we received the email stating our application had been successful so thought no more about it until the tickets were put on the car. When I phoned the council the guy I spoke to said that the payment had been cancelled (not by me!) and I should have received an email to say that the payment had not gone through (I received no such email) and so we did not have a valid permit. Appealed to the council and they upheld the first ticket as the email confirming our application had been a success contained the get out clause "provided the payment was received" - although how are you supposed to know that it had not gone through unless they tell you - it appeared fine and dandy on website. They agreed to cancel the second ticket on the basis that it was issued within 24 hours of the first.

Carrie replied to Dullwitches's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Mine was stolen a few weeks ago. I got an email with the photo of the box in the porch - by the time I Got to the front door (about 3 minutes after it was delivered)the box was gone. I suspect the driver was followed. -

Trouble Trying To Buy A CPZ Parking Permit On-Line?
Carrie replied to Zak's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We have been having exactly the same problems, doesn?t seem to matter whose name is the lead on the council tax bill - the system will not recognise the account number. Tried the phone line - listened, through gritted teeth, to the endless messages saying how easy it was to get the permit online - finally got put through to a recorded message which said ?sorry this mailbox is full? and the call was disconnected! Have uploaded a water bill and await confirmation from Southwark that I do indeed live in the house for which they have been charging me council tax! -
Do get a proper diagnosis of IBS before doing an elimination diet, as IBS symptoms mimic symptoms of other conditions. But once you have a diagnosis then the Monash University FODMAP app is great for managing elimination and re-introduction do you can find out your individual trigger foods.

Looked pretty closed when I walked past at lunchtime -
The consensus amongst the neighbours is that they are being taken to be sold on at car boot sales. I've given up on the idea of putting in plants now - can't afford to fund someone else's "business" - and will just be scattering seed from now on.

More plants went last night 😪

Oops - now corrected - damn autocorrect!

Someone has dug up plants from my front garden overnight - has anyone else on Oglander noticed any losses. Why would someone do that? I realise I?m irrationally upset over the loss of a few penstemons!!

CPZ: Proposed Controlled Parking in East Dulwich
Carrie replied to dulwichresident01's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
@ Sally Eva - your comment "...or perhaps you should pay their parking costs in London" - the whole point is that we cannot pay their parking costs in London - they are not entitled to a parking permit! In one case we are talking about a staff member who has been with us in excess of 30 years - am I supposed to tell her that she should consider getting a job closer to home? Are you really saying that people should only work in their own locality if there is not a reasonable option to commute by public transport - it all seems a bit League of Gentlemen - local jobs for local people! -
CPZ: Proposed Controlled Parking in East Dulwich
Carrie replied to dulwichresident01's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The argument put forward by SallyEva and RendelHarris also applies equally to any local resident driving a car - in driving away from their current local parking space they are adding to congestion on the local roads, adding to road danger in the local area and creating pollution - and, unless they are simply off for a jaunt - they will no doubt want to park somewhere at the end of their journey, in front of someone else's house taking up the space that a client of another business could have used. Every journey carries public costs - not just those of my employees trying to reach work. Whilst there are car parks at most stations outside London, as Sally Eva rightly points out, on the whole they are quite small - not always possible to get a parking space, and once there the journey to work can be quite convoluted, involving a number of changes, unless you pay through the nose go into zone 1 and then out again to East Dulwich. Not everyone can afford either the time to spend 2 hours plus commuting each way or the premium for a ticket taking you into zone 1. My question remains - why am I, as a local resident, entitled to 3 parking permits, should I so desire, whereas my employees, who contribute to the local economy, are not entitled to any.
