  1. v confused now - Ive just been back on the site and it is now listing 1st november as a payment day - and Ive been able to pay the charge - perhaps its because I tried to book before 6.00am - it would be better rather than listing it as a no payment day that the site tells you to book later. anyone else had the same experience?
  2. I was driving down wood vale a couple of days ago with my elderly mum as a passenger - a car in front was parked in the middle of the road on the access to the mini round about - blocking the road to ourselves and any other oncoming traffic - We sat for a minute or so behind the vehicle waiting for it to move. I couldnt quite believe what appeared to be happening which appeared to be blatent deal going on - so blatent that they were prepared to hold up traffic in the process - if I was right about the paper being passed by the man in the road to the driver and the money exchanging hands - (yes having read the previous posts it looks quite likely) then thats pretty cheeky.
  3. Ive just been online to pay the congestion charge but the tfl site says that today (monday 1st Nov) is a no payment day. Im pleased, but puzzled - anyone know why?
  4. that depends on who I had with me - but at least you have some notice that something is untoward -
  5. of course your right - they can get in and out before someone arrives - even if you get hitched up to the police station - the cost of linking into the police is v expensive from my recall and I wasnt at all sure how fast they would get there anyway given our previous experience
  6. yes, it can call our phone and if we answer but are not local we can call on family to go round. Also, if we dont answer our phones then our family is also on the list of phone numbers that will automatically be called.
  7. We were burgled too earlier this year - my partner disturbed the burglar who had broken a back window to get in and our young son saw him climbing over the back fence - It was just dusk and my partner was anxious, given he had our son with him in case there was a second person with him and that someone might still be in the property. We dialed 999 and I explained that we were concerned that someone might still be in the property. We were told to vacate the property until they arrived.....which was five hours later... We are just over the border from southwark in forest hill and so come under lewisham police. A recent conversation with them revealed that they have a no response policy on alarms that are not linked to the police station unless there are visible signs of a break in. I am pleased that statistically the numbers are lowish in terms of burglary but that does help when you are burgled and if they are low why are we getting such a poor response from the police - I thought we all, through our council tax, are paying for the services of the police. In the end we have an alarm fitted with an extra gizmo that rings up to four different telephone numbers if our alarm is set off - so even if we are away our mobile phone will receive a message. It will go through the telephone numbers until it receives an answer. I think the extra gizmo cost around ?150
  8. I think its the building very close to the car park inside the park. Go through the entrance closest to the dulwich picture gallery, turn left just a little way in.

    police chase

we were driving back from kings college hospital today and were overtaken on denmark hill by a police car - shortly after a blue car came speeding down the hill bashing its way through two lines of stationary traffic taking off wing mirror after wing mirror and clipping other vehicles. We were lucky not to get struck but I felt v sorry for those who were not so lucky. In hot pursuit was the police car followed in time by several others. It was all a bit dramatic for a sunny afternoon.
  10. fantastic daisylets - Im really pleased to hear that you not only were not ripped off but got look at her accomplice and their car - I will be v interested to hear whether the police act on it. I posted the previous thread on this woman because I hated the way she exploited neighbourliness - well done!
  11. that would be a shame se22 gal - I posted a note to all my neighbours warning them after she scammed us and quite a few came personally to thank me - even some I didnt know, dont let her errode neighbourliness.
  12. well done matti, I started the previous thread after she conned us. Even if the police have not caught up with her yet the forum has let loads of east dulwich folk know - perhaps she might post her own message on the forum!! 'con woman replies'....only problem is will we believe her?
  13. in relation to the police contact numbers the 0208 721 2443 is no longer working but the nunhead and peckham rye community police officers can be contacted on 07920233915. However they work limited hours. When I called peckham police station the night we were scammed by her they were more than happy to check if there was a police car in the area - and asked for a description and which way she went. Im pretty certain they know who she is - how old would you say the children were charlie?
  14. sorry to hear that youve had the same experience aicardo, yes she puts you in a real dilemma and exploits the good neighbour in us. For my part I dropped a note round to all my neighbours warning them of the scam and Ive had numerous people thank me for taking the trouble. I hope at least that it has increased the sence of neighbourliness on the street. If you look earlier on the thread Ive put the email address of two community police officers who are looking into her escapades - they think that she is known to the police. best wishes
  15. I met with police officers from the peckham rye safer neighbourhoods team yesterday who thought they had an idea who this woman was. They will be back in touch shortly and may have photographs for me to see if I can recognise her. I spoke with them about the numbers of people locally who had had the same experience and they would be pleased to hear from anyone who would like to give them information of their own experience. They can be contacted by email on [email protected] address the emails for the attention of PCSO Page and PCSO Hackworth. Many thanks to everyone who replied - hopefully with the numbers of people now aware of her scam she will have less luck locally and even better the police might be able to intervene Thank you all again
  16. this is all very helpful, I was amazed by the numbers of people that had the same experience by apparently the same person. I thought that by now the police should know who she is. I spoke with a community police officer on the phone yesterday and mentioned the numerous replies Id had on this site. Hes going to speak with me again on monday. She may have mental health problems but shes a damed good con artist. I agree too that the more people know about her the better. Ill update the site of any progress - thanks to everyone who has replied
  17. sue, if your like me then I dont usually answer the door directly at that time of night unless I know who it is - I asked who it was from behind the door and she gave me the story of her living on the street and the house number and the electricity key without my opening the door. Our front room overlooks the pathway to the door and its pretty easy to see people leaving the doorway. Id suggest people do the same - ask who it is without opening the door - if they get anything similar dont open it but if they can see which way she goes through a window let the police know
  18. Its particularly sad that she seems to be playing the vunerable/distressed woman on her own to exploit peoples better nature - Since I posted it this morning another neighbour it transpired saw her last night as she left my house and recognised her as the same woman who conned her with exactly the same story, two years ago on Barry Road. She was also aware of someone else who had the same experience at the same time in Kinsale road - would you believe it she knocked on this womans door again a week later as if shed forgotten shed already done it. She asks for what seems initially not an enormous amount but like bli wrote it could become alot worse as she gains access to peoples property. I suspect that as she takes not an enormous amount of money that most people dont report it to the police. However when I spoke with them they asked that instead of answering the door peole phone the police and if possible let them know the direction she goes off in and what shes wearing. Hopefully they will catch her as I do particularly worry about her affect on elderly people who may be living on their own.
  19. Ithink it would be worth letting the police know if they have not already - it wasnt just the money, it was late at night and we are generally a friendly street, I didnt want a neighbour in that situation. However if Id been on my own or was elderly my situation would have been significantly more vunerable.
  20. just to alert people to a scam we were unforutunate to experience last night. At 10.45 pm our door bell was rung by a woman who clearly sounded distressed. I never usually open the door to people I dont know but through the door she told me she was a neighbour from further up the road. As my partner was in I did open the door and she did a very convincing job of acting as she told me her electicity key needed topping up and she had no electricty at all - her children were in the car and she needed to catch a shop in nunhead before it closed. Her husband she assured me would be back later and let us have the money back. She told me the number of the house she lived in and pointed further back down the street - we live in waveney avenue just across peckham rye park. Because of her seeming distress I foolishly invited her into the hallway and gave her the ten pounds she had requested. It was only when she had left I realised that I knew the people who lived in the house number she had quoted and that Id been conned. I rang the police who said that its a very common scam at the moment and they did send a car out to see if they might be able to spot her. She was a black woman with short hair and about five foot 3, although from what I gather from the police it sounds as if its quite a common scam used by other people too.
