  1. thank you for your reply - thats encouraging - would you recomend a particular make? many thanks
  2. we were seriously thinking of getting our son a new trampoline for his birthday - given its going into winter I wondered if they are generally ok outside over the winter or would it be better to wait until the spring? any thoughts welcome thanks
  3. Its probably better that you scared them off - the outcome of just letting them carry on almost certainly wouldnt have been good. I was woken in the middle of the night a couple of months ago and witnessed a number of young men behaving suspiciously out in the street and after a while of watching I called the police apparently they had stolen a motorbike from further down the street and disappeared down an alley - the police were out searching already and my call focused them on their whereabouts. They may or may not have caught them but they had also used their own car - a decent looking VW. Id be curious as to how far people are travelling to undertake these thefts
  4. does any one know of a local beavers/scouts groups, thanks
  5. Fairlawn is also in a similar position and has the same executive headas Kilmorie. I was disappointed that the situation was not more transparent - just announced as a done deal last week. I understand from a parent at the horniman school that they had been considering a bulge year again this year and had consulted parents some time ago. In the end they are not going ahead but have been told that they will probably have to take one next year. However at least the parents were made aware early on. I spoke with a friend whose child is starting fairlawn in sept and she has not even been informed yet - parents may have made a different choice had they known in advance
  6. it was taking the goat around the supermarket that really cracked me up! have sainsburys complained yet?
  7. We have previously bought a three wheeler microscooter but it didnt seem to last very long - does anyone have another recommendation? many thanks
  8. thank youall very much for your suggestions Ill get shopping tomorrow -
  9. Ive been trying to find somewhere local to get hold of a pair of childrens black pe shoes. John lewis have phased them out and I cannt find them on the big supermarkets websites either. I ordered some from amazon and they came in way too small - Where do other folks get them from many thanks
  10. I grew up in a mining village where people knew what was happening within the community. When my dad got ill and spent time in hospital, food, practical support etc just appeared from our neighbours. What I like about the forum is I can pick up something of what is happening within the community I live - that people are looking out for and helping out where they can. Surely that is something to be encouraged.
  11. we have been very happy with Tony from A and M cleaning - a local firm - efficient and reasonably priced - there are other recomendations and contact details for him on the forum best wishes
  12. we are looking for somewhere special to have lunch with young kids near oxford street does anyone have any recommendations many thanks
  13. Whippersnappers do very good music/rhyming sessions at a number of venues but particularly in the house just inside the entrance to dulwich park (nr the dulwich picture gallery) they do lovely cake and lunches too. Then of course your in the park as you come out.
  14. just to say that anyone thinking of going out to hall place its really nice to stop off at oxlea's wood on the way home. Take the road back through welling and look out for the sign for Cafe on the left at the peak of shooters hill just before the hospital. lovely downward sweeping grass bank and we tend to then go into the wood on the right of the cafe as your walking towards the grass bank it has little bits of overflow garden from the hospital there. We managed to get a bit lost which only added to the kids enjoyment.
  15. What a helpful thread. I just wanted to say that we had a fantastic day the enchanted forest at Groombridge yesterday. Its a little way on from Tonbridge Wells and it may be accessible by train but we drove down, about an hour and a half. Well worth it. Significant sized forest walk with a series of magical senario's and scenes to stumble on. The kids, aged 5 and three and a half loved it. It has very good tire them out value too. The entrance was about ?8.00 each and it took us about four and a half hours to get around. Good idea to take plenty of fluids in this heat. They had a shop and cafe etc.
  16. I drove out to Kent about eight this morning and joined the road at Deptford. It was dreadful crawling past Wickes etc I almost turned off to go through Lewisham and quite a few cars turned back but oddly once beyond shooters hill it magically lifted and the traffic was lighter than usual. I also heard on the radio that there was a problem on the woolwich ferry this morning too.
  17. I agree with only me - looking at the photo gives some indication of the speed the vehicle must have been travelling - Im glad the driver is ok but I hope the police take action against them as they could quite easily have killed someone else.
  18. I was really sorry to hear the news too Id hoped so much for his safe return - warm wishes to all of his family at this sad time
  19. Just checked his facebook page and understand that he had still not been found by last night. I wondered if, particuarly if he did become confused, anyone has checked the psychiatric units around south east london or even further north in the city. They may have separate admissions lists and also he may not have known his name. Re the Irish connection - my partner has family in Galway and Connermara we wondered if you have contacted the Gaelic speaking radio station there, located between Galway city and Clifton - its small and local and Id hope they would broadcast something for you - I cannt recall its name but its listed by Google. I do hope you find him soon with best wishes
  20. you should check out the hill behind the horniman museum - good primary schools on the doorstep good rail links from honour oak and forest hill - it borders on east dulwich but tends to be cheaper. They are mainly 1930s semis or detatched but with generally bigger gardens and lofts that are often converted.
  21. I think the attraction of lordship lane is its independent shops. Any additional big name stores will only reduce their custom base. What a terrible shame.
  22. anyone know of anywhere selling sledges? don't mean to start a stampede
  23. thanks manda and blue revoluion thats settled my curiousity
  24. just wondering if anyone knows what the film crew were doing in peckham rye park today - loads of vans parked up in the car park this morning.
