  1. On the corner of Overhill and Underhill stands an empty new build with 4 or 6 flats - can't be bothered to check. I saw them on the market last summer, on Wates website resplendent in their suspicion tickling super wide-lense shots. Tiny batchelor pads as found all over Hackney, dropped into ED opposite Camberwell Cemetery was not the best idea it seems. However, something needs to be done with them, office, sqaut or wrecking ball? - you decide.
  2. I got one and thought 'well the cover's ok' and then I opened it. Like Dulwich Life but worse, much worse. I don't think it should be recycled, that's not final enough.
  3. i've been gathering a load of the music listed here which fit well with my very eclectic selection. i do genre hopping and try to fit a whole load of seemingly different stuff together, hinged on it being likable and good. fun without cheese. that was vague wasn't it, the proof's in the hearing. am rather looking forward to it but it is the first party of any kind i've done for 4 years or so. if you see me gulping GT's either buy me another or make me stop. citizenED Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > AnotherPaul - what you gonna be playing on > Friday/ > > Kym Sims - Too Blind to See it > > Jean Knight - Mr Big Stuff
  4. I use a firm in the west end, they charge 1500 p/a and for that I get the spreadsheet I put together sorted through, and married up with all my receipts and invoices. They sort errors and most importantly advise me on how to be registered and how to declare. They also handle all communication with the IR regarding child credits and any errant IR queries. It's a lot to be paying but they do a good job and their advice has saved me far more than I've paid them. That said I'm thinking of going local in part to cut costs. Recommendations anyone?
  5. monica, if you're trying to find out if you can play that song at the party you can, i'm DJing and will download and bring it. ap
  6. GBK chips are mdf-like, the atmosphere not up to much and the order at the counter idea's both genius (for profit) and tedious (for customers). For taste I'm with Mockney, Hach? in Camden is well worth a visit if you're already in the area. But what really gets to me is the copy-cat chains. It seems ugly brown graphics have become the uniform of middle class burger chains GBKand Hamburger Unionare the two I can remember, started blocking them out after that. Oh, and there's a Burger place just off Carnaby street which makes the complaints about GBK look like compliments.
  7. E.on the energy company sponsoring the FA cup has launched it's carbon footyprint campaign. The idea is that football fans pledge to car share to games and in doing so reduce the impact of the cup on the climate. Seems like quite a good idea apart from the fact that E.on are proposing to update and enlarge the coal fired power station at Kingsnorth in Kent. The power station they want build is massive, 'each of the two units E.on proposes would emit more carbon dioxide than 24 of the world?s lowest emitting countries combined.' - from Greenpeace's site, more. E.on claim to be wanting to use carbon capture technology at the site but it's not ready to be used, energy companies are haggling with govt. over which technology to go with who's going to pay for it. Read more here Car journeys are entirely unrelated to E.on's business so asking football fans to alter their behaviour let's E.on seem to care about climate change whilst continuing with business as usual. Sick manipulative shits. And back to the football?
  8. This series has lost me. Where did the faux-French woman's awful accent go and didn't it used to be a story per episode? In trying to be topical it's heavy handed, the Iranian plot line makes for decent drama but the 'foreigners are going to kill us all' message at it's core is bad/boring/lazy. I do suspect the cameraman is the same person who did NYPD blue titles.
  9. The English players and McClaren are a thick bunch which might seem obvious but that's just what we've become used to. It is possible for players to actually be smart and play intelligently but a culture of cliche peddling dim-wittedness and celebrity vulgarity (and a few other things) has caused English football to rot and become the pathetic mess witnessed last night. McClaren is so single-geared must have been blind faith on the part of the FA board to think that somehow he'd thrive in a job which requires inspirational motivational skills, excellent man/chav management and strategic and tactical insight. And McClaren sporting a comb-over was a give away. If a man doesn't understand that losing one's hair can be done with some style and dignity there's no way he's smart enough for managing that football team. But never mind, Beckham wants to play at the 2010 world cup which is great news. So long as he turns out for team USA.
  10. Happy kids and a better society will come from happy grown ups so: ? streets for people to walk and play without fear of being flattened so 50% fewer cars in 10 years, 4x4s banned, and money for train network which is affordable and which don't smell of wee ? everyone to have a paid day off work a month to work on being a good person ? criminalise not being caring enough - a touch thorny i realise but maybe worth a punt ? do away with money having asked everyone everywhere to chip in to a new fair way of trading stuff ? neat wealth redistribution system which leaves everyone happy Oh and? if anyone calls me a hippy I will chop down an oak tree in Peckham rye this Sunday. ap
  11. Aye. Building up issues so that they seem be directly threatening when what's happening outside is actually what is really dangerous but harder to deal with due to being at home (fear of nanny state accusations) and being of an entirely different scale. Our 'leaders' get how to do the international big difficult issues, knowing that political prestige lies in international legacy. As the British public are thought of as fickle then the only real respect to be had is amongst other politicians and publics who don't have to vote for Blair, Brown, Bush, et al. What our politicians and process don't do at all is prioritise actual real issues. Climate change, the need for peace in Iraq and on the streets of Dulwich and nurturing a caring society are all really fuckin important but don't get a look in alongside Iran, Al queda and all that nasty stupidity. We are encouraged to be fearful by our leaders and their avoidance of real 'home' issues and then encouraged to be even more scared of the violence which outsiders might visit upon us. Bored of it. Double sigh.
  12. Back in the 80's when I was a kid I used to hate the violence of childhood but it was relatively safe in that it was all about asserting power over others and rarely to do with theft or actual bodily harm. It was sort of innocent violence. Our society has moved on and now shouts loud and clear that having stuff can be more important that being a good person. House prices booms teach some about real wealth, endless credit's there for the wannabe wealthy and then there's theft and violence for the wannabe respected. This is sadly out of control and ASBO's and banging more people up just isn't the answer. An honest, fair and unselfish society is what's needed but where's that going to come from? (Sighs and moves on) ap
  13. I was carrying annoyed thoughts about another thread over to this one and in doing so proved that context is vital for humour (and the loss of it). The gag wasn't to my fickle taste but sorry for seeming to impose that on others. (shuffles off) ap
  14. Sorry for being so serious but I didn't back track through the whole thread to see where the comment first appeared. Mark's right, there is a joke thread and I'm up for poking fun pretty much anything. Weirdly enough if anyone makes a joke involvin 'ethnic cleansing' or 'genocide' it doesn't make me roar with laughter whatever the context. It's such a shame some us in here have to rely on actual humour to make people laugh. Yawn. 15. it's an abstract mayhem cracker! there's a few tracks from sine waves i still listen to when working. and my god, you really did resize them!
  16. Really, all this talk of 'ethnic cleansing' and 'genocide' is offensive. And moving to Croydon would be shit but it would not be like being gassed. ap
  17. Really, do people pull in there? Weird idea.
  18. Where's Mrshamilton when we need her unbiased opinion?
  19. As a parent of Goodrich I'm quite happy. My daughter is happy there and seems to be being looked after and stimulated. The newsletters are useful but rather patronising. I hadn't heard the 'Phantom' tag until now but there is some truth to her invisibility, I'd much rather have been greeted properly by the head as a new parent than have a weekly newsletter. They do need to do a communications audit, the volume of paper coming out of the place is nuts. It seems that old head was very well liked and that many parents are still loyal to him. My daughter's new to the school so I have no direct experience but judging by the last ofsted report there was something seriously amiss with the management of the place, I wouldn't have sent my daughter there had there not been a new head. ap
